A fine example of SF almost prophesying correctly the science of string theory through speculative fiction. A preposterous event is justified through a mixture of logical extrapolation and mushroom soup. Coincidentally, it includes another example of prophecy, highlighting a famous family’s trait, of mixing colossal blunders with outstanding leadership skills, that will apparently survive intact into the future !

Ahhh....if only we could do this trick with other dangerous discoveries made in Science.

I feel like there's an ironic chuckle lurking in the backdrop of this story. Something about putting the dangerous and life changing wonders of any new developments in science in the hands of bumbling fools.

I love the theoretical bit about "lems" which is a precursor to the idea that today we call String Theory.
