Three books in one means three times the fun! Lock up the lasagna, chain the chicken, and hold on to your funny bone. America's favorite cat is hungrier, funnier, lazier, grouchier, and more lovable than ever! Watch (and watch out!) as this champion heavyweight fights fleas, battles the Sludge Monster, falls head over tail in love, gets hijacked by a duck, visits a psychiatrist -- among other antics -- all in the name of laughs!
James Robert "Jim" Davis is an American cartoonist who created the popular comic strip Garfield. Other comics that he has worked on are Tumbleweeds, Gnorm Gnat, Slapstick, and a strip about Mr. Potato Head.
Jim Davis was born in Fairmount, Indiana, near Marion, where he grew up on a small farm with his father James William Davis, mother Anna Catherine (Carter) Davis, brother Dave, and 25 cats. Davis' childhood on a farm parallels the life of his cartoon character Garfield's owner, Jon Arbuckle, who was also raised on a farm with his parents and a brother, Doc Boy. Jon, too, is a cartoonist, and also celebrates his birthday on July 28. Davis attended Ball State University. While attending Ball State, he became a member of the Theta Xi fraternity. He earned the dubious honor of earning one of the lowest cumulative grade point averages in the history of the university, an honor incidentally shared with Late Show host David Letterman.
Davis as of 2007 resides in Muncie, Indiana, where he and his staff produce Garfield under his company, Paws, Inc., begun in 1981. He was married to Carolyn, a singer and elementary teacher whom he met while both were attending college, and has a son named James with her. However, the couple divorced, and Davis since 2000 has been married to Jill, Paws' senior vice president of licensing, who has worked there approximately 25 years.
Ironically, Davis did not own cats when he started Garfield because of Carolyn's allergies, but they owned a Labrador retriever named Molly. With Jill, the family has expanded to include children Ashley and Chris; three grandchildren, Chloe, Carly and Cody; cats, Spunky and Nermal; and a dog, Pooky.
picked this up for a quarter one year (the same rummage sale that my T-Witches book came from) and I'm pretty sure it's not all there. *shrugs* there's still a crapton of garfield comics that were paged through more than three times by more than one of us kids. Poor beat-up book.
Garfield Weighs In Garfield Takes the Cake Garfield Eats His Heart Out
What more is there to say - it's three books of Garfield! Well, not just Garfield - there is also Jon (of course), Odie (whom I adore), Nermal the world's cutest kitten, Liz the vet, Pooky, and this collection also includes Arlene and some other random characters/creatures that pop up. If you're a Garfield fan you have an idea of what to expect from this charming collection. I enjoyed it and look forward to the next.
Garfield has a special place in my heart because I used to read it religiously when I was very young (eight, nine years old) to practice my English.
Nevertheless, the comic critic in me is adamant that 1990-2000 (and beyond, say until 2005 or so) was the heyday for this comic strip. Better drawing style, better gags, but - it nevertheless remains, in my opinion, one of the best American syndicated comic strips due to its safe, harmless simplicity that has allowed it to still be loved and widely read to this day.
Yes. I read this. I got it out of a little library. I remember when there were mad rushes to grab those out of the elementary school library each week. I still read Garfield in each paper. It isn't quite the same as it once was, but it was a nice little break before bed.
Quick impressions: Overall, this is a fun and amusing book. It has a pretty good variety of jokes and humor. For libraries, these omnibus editions provide good value for graphic novel collections.
Another round of fun with my favorite comic strip cat. He's a little less mean in this one, except to Nermal (who deserves it for being the world's most annoying kitty-cat).
The same great Garfield comic! Honestly this hasn’t lost an ounce of its charm yet! I’ll definitely be continuing this comic going forward- it’s a big comfort book :3.
Jim Davis has talent. Of course, living with so many cats when he was a child helps, but he has something to make it work throughout the years. In this volume, we find a very good compilation of Garfield'a adventures and evil doings. He's not nice, he's completely selfish, but he's one of the cuttest cats I've ever know. This one is one of my favorites!
Excellent!: My son recently became interested in Garfield, and he just loves the books. Its fun and very easy reading, so he enjoys it, while still practicing his reading skills. Its the best of both worlds! The service was great, the shipping was very quick, and the quality of the book was excellent. Thank you for putting many smiles on our faces!
Used to love Garfield as a kid, they don't hold up so well. It's hit and miss, way more misses than hits but it's 3 panels so you barely notice. A single Garfield comic book feels not worth the money because you finish it like it was nothing but the 3 packs are good and this was the first one I ever got so it's nostalgic.
This fat cat pack is full of hilarious nonstop Garfield fun! Arlene is such a silly girl for going on dates with Garfield, because he only loves himself! Ha! Nothing better than 3 books in one when it comes to Garfield!
I have loved Garfield since I was little. I would checkout his books from the local library in the town I was living in at the time. I am elated to find that they have combined three of the collections in one book. I will say though, I do miss the small long books in black and white.
