Anyone who has come under the spell of THE MINACK CHRONICLES will have longed to know more about their author Derek Tangye and his wife Jeannie Nichol Tangye. In the early 1930s Derek Tangye was a "deb's delight", seen with many young socialites. Then, working in Fleet Street, he saw the other side of life. Then he met Jean Nichol, head of public relations for the Savoy Hotel Group, and their subsequent marriage proved a true meeting of minds. Their decision to abandon London for a rustic way of life led to the writing of THE MINACK CHRONICLES and established Minack as a haven for Derek's readers Suffused with a sense of destiny, TANGYE is a dual biography of two strong individuals.
I have enjoyed reading Derek Tangye's autobiographical novels about aspects of his life at the idyllic remote place in Cornwall to which he escaped. (The most famous of these are collectively known as "The Minack Chronicles.") So why would I want to read about his former life as a clerk in London?! This is a double biography; it is also about the early life of his wife Jeannie, who had a fashionable job as a manager at The Savoy Hotel in London. Interminably boring.
Causes controversy with the fans as some really dislike teh view taken by Power and others find it an insight to the other side of Derek...read it for yourself and see!
