Rating a book like this is hard. I didn't really want to give it a four because that is what I give books that I really like and enjoy, but this book did serve its purpose. I mean I think it was helpful to me for the exam. So this is probably more of like a 3.7 or 3.8 for me. I picked this study book because my teacher said it was good and because she said one of her students who got a 5 the year before said it really helped him. Having not received my score yet I can't be entirely sure of how helpful this was, but it was mainly what I used to study. What I really liked about it was that it was easy it read. It was something I could just sit down with and read about 20 pages or 2 chapters of a night. I also liked the size (I know a little weird, but hear me out). Most of the study books for AP courses are like workbook sized books, but this book was the size of a normal paperback novel. I think that made it easier to carry with me and made it easier to just flop down in a chair and read it instead of working through it like a workbook. Another thing I liked was that it wasn't like a workbook, meaning I could just go through and read it. I also liked the review of the different time periods and the way the chapters in each time period were broken up. The time periods are broken up really well and provide a simple review of everything that is important in each time period. By reading a few chapters a night, I was able to take bite sized pieces of review. Additionally, the content is very succinct and the language used is easy to understand. Overall, this book was helpful for my exam and provided a good review of the material. If you just need a quick review of the time periods or the structure of the exam, or of important terms and concepts, this book will definitely help with all of that. I would recommend study book to others who are taking AP World History.
How do you rate a book like this? Yes, I liked it in that it was helpful, but I didn't ENJOY cracking this book open every day.
The point is, it was an excellent way to cram in everything I needed to know for this AP test but was never taught in class in under two weeks. I highly recommend these books to anyone taking AP tests in the future; they're a great way of funneling down the information into a book you can easily get through without wanting to pull your brains out through your ears just for something entertaining. Some of the little remarks even induced a snicker here and there. And ok, I got through APUSH without Crash Course and still got a 5 on the exam so world history shouldn't be that different, except that we had a different teacher and I found that getting outside help would be necessary if I wanted to get above a 3. So, unless your teacher is absolutely stellar or you are, seriously, help yourself and get this book! Teenager-friendly, to the point, and time-efficient, I'll probably owe my exam results to Crash Course!
This was really helpful in preparing me for the AP exam; Mr. Kriegger efficiently funnels down the information that students really need to know for the test. Not only that, but the format is easy to understand and I found it to hammer out the problems I was having remember what was happening in different places around the world at the same time. I will definately use these books for my AP Biology, Physics, and English Language exams next year.
Very nice! It compiled everything I needed to know into very organized bullet points and chapters. I also loved the helpful charts and practice test. Perfect for last-minute studying and cramming!
