Whether it's a Shinto rite in Japan, an Orthodox Jewish service in Russia, a Catholic mass in Slovakia or a short ceremony at city hall in Los Angeles, a wedding is a special celebration. This photographic look at weddings invites children on a trip around the world and provides a glimpse into the rich variety of world cultures.
Multicultural #6 This book discusses different wedding rituals that occur all over the world. It talks about what all weddings have in common and what they may or may not include. The pictures offer visuals of an ample amount of different wedding ceremonies in different cultures. There is an index in the back of the book that explains wedding tendencies in almost 30 different countries. This would be an awesome book to read before having students research specific countries and their celebrations. The only thing that I did not like about the book though was that they only mentioned marriage of a man and a women, but with today's times, we need to be aware of all the possibilities.
This is a super intersting book that tells about the differences in marriage customs around the world. The photographs are vivid and beautiful. The countries include the US, Norway, India, South Korea, Russia, and more. They show similarities and differences among traditions and customs for marriage. I like how the book shows diversity and acceptance of different cultures. Adults and children can both learn a lot from this book and will have fun doing so!
This book showed pictures from various cultures and countries of weddings. I liked the variety presented through the book, and the key at the end describing where each picture was taken. The sentence, "It is the time when a man and woman promise to spend the rest of their lives together" might be controversial in present-day society.
