I found this story highly enjoyable. I was hooked from the beginning and didn't want to put it down. The main character Ret is unusual to say the least. He was adopted by the Cooper family 10 months ago, he has no memory of his past and he does not look like most humans do. It was hard to visualize him looking more albino than anything. He is described as having skin so light that he almost glows, his eyes are vibrant and when sleeping can be seen through his eyelids. He also has unexplained scars on this hands and very fine blond hair.
Ret does not want to attend high school because of his differences, he does not feel comfortable when other people keep staring at him, and he feels more of a nature person and the thought of being stuck in school for unending hours a day is torture for him as well. I thought the family dynamics in the story was very comforting. Pauline is a very comforting and openly caring mother figure. Ana is a protective and also a very caring sister. I loved how supportive of each other they were and accepting, loving people.
The story was very well put together, each character and piece of information given all leads and has connections to the bigger plot-line. Here is a story that has no unnecessary info dumps, characters or pages of dialogue that seem to go nowhere. It was all another piece in the puzzle and placement that made the story a wonderful adventure from the beginning.
It's a clean read, no romance great for readers of all ages. The story is very engaging and has a constant build up of action and adventure and danger growing in each chapter.
Highly recommended to those that like adventure stories with magic.

This is a YA book given to me to read by a librarian I trust very much.

I liked the story and the characters. This book has potential, and I can see why it was recommended. I just wish it had been better edited. There were a few instances of words used incorrectly. There were more than a few times when the author told instead of showed. It did not harm the story, but it slowed it down a great deal.

I am glad I read it, and my book recommender can finally rest easy knowing that I got through it after months of asking me to read it!

I really enjoyed Oracle: Sunken Earth. I thought C.W. Trisef’s writing is smooth and intelligent. I couldn’t believe the mix of fact and fiction. There would be some crazy invention and then an explanation on how it worked! I had no idea if the logic behind it actually made sense but I would still nod my head and think oh that’s why that works. I thought it was clever and well thought out. I also liked the inclusion of the Bermuda Triangle in the book. Once again a perfect mix of fact and fiction, of course with the Bermuda Triangle I think anything goes. I felt the book had a good pace and that there was plenty of action to keep me interested and not too much to overdo it.
I like how the book starts. We witness a scene of events playing out and then are flashed forward 10 months. This is when we are officially introduced to Ret Cooper. Ret has lost his memories previous to when he washed up on shore in Jaret Coopers rib (his namesake). He is an awkward boy, with pale skin, eyes that freak people out and strange scars on his hand. I found him to be an enjoyable character and I liked seeing the book from mostly his perspective. The thing I found to be most interesting about him is his lack of interest in his lost memories. It's not that he wouldn’t want to know where he came from but he’s not obsessed with it like you would probably see in other books. He seems to be guided more by his gut than anything else.
Ana, Ret’s adoptive sister, is feisty and funny and I like the bond that her and Ret have. They seem like true brother and sister even though they have only been that way for the past 10 months. I like the interactions between the two of them.
Paige is Ana’s best friend and spends a lot of time being googly over Ret. I don’t think her personality has completely surfaced yet but there are seven books to this series and I have a feeling we will get more of handle on her in later books. I liked that her love story with Ret is hinted at but not the instant kind.
Paige’s father, Ben Coy, is one of those characters that you love and hate. Sometimes he seems utterly annoying, sometimes he is hysterical and other times you can tell there is something below the surface with him. I liked the development of his character throughout the book and of course all of his crazy logical inventions.
There are definitely other characters that make the book and in a gutsy move we don’t get to see all of them forever. I like when books take a risk like that.
There is always a cast of villains and I found the ones in this book to be almost more background characters. They are introduced and interesting but they are not the main focus of the story. I think this book is more about establishing who Ret is, what his mission is and who the villains are. We do find out who the mastermind villain is that is pulling the strings and what for the most part his attentions are. I did like the awkwardness of Quirk and Stone, there lack of being subtle was pretty funny.

It was a good read and I plan to continue the series. I like the cover and the simplicity of it, my two year old son pointed out the triangle to me over and over again.

I was sent a copy of this by the author in exchange for an honest review.
To be honest when approached about this book I wasn't sure what I thought about it, I knew I would either really really love it, or not like it. But I was willing to give it a go, you never know unless you try, right?
The front cover of the book is quite mysterious but really sums up the book, I like the mix of colours and different elements hidden within it, really catches your eye.
The book starts with 'Chapter 0' which made me laugh, but does a great job of introducing the storyline. I was at once put at ease, here was a book that I was sure to enjoy. At 350 pages long I thought I would be finished quite quickly, and when I did sit down to read I would steam through, but this past week has been absolutely hectic and I've hardly been able to read at all, so that partly spoilt my enjoyment as I had to read it in a lot of bits.
Ret himself is a cool character, quite mysterious and fairly noble. He annoyed me in a couple of points because he was good at everything and not affraid to show it off and I hate arrogance, but as the story progressed he showed his more compassionate side and became more likeable.
Ana (his 'sister') is a fiesty girl who knows what she wants and will go after it and has no problem with bossing Ret about, I liked her attitude and she often made me chuckle.
Paige (their friend) was a bit of a pushover, drooling over Ret a lot and sulking that her dad didn't pay her any attention. I hoped she would do something incredible/risky but I was a little disappointed there. Maybe she will factor more in the rest of the series.
I liked Principle Stone, so dorky and a bit thick, but all the more dangerous because of it, you were never quite sure what he would come up with to do next.
The one character that was like Marmite for me was Mr Coy, at times I would love his character and be laughing at his eccentricities, but his constant pun of his name and asking people if they have 'Ben Coy' really annoyed me. I'm not sure I completely get what the author was going for here, but it was used too much in my opinion and I wanted to tell him to get over himself.
Overall the storyline was good, Hurricane victimm washed up with no memory but some strange scars and awakening powers. I thought the author did it well and I was intrigued about the connection with Ret's scars. The book did hook me in and I wanted to finish it and find out what happened. I loved the setting of the 'Sunken World' lots of great imagery there.
Overall I did enjoy the book but there were moments that irked me. However I would recommend this as a good read to try. And I am interested enough to want to read the next one in the series when it comes out.

My daughter's English teacher recommended the series as the author is coming to visit their school later in the year. I thought, Why not? Now I think, WHY NOT!!!!!

The first book was captivating. I was caught up in the characters right away. The story line was easy to keep up with as well as fun to follow. My favorite character? Probably Ivan the lisping Russian. I mean, who doesn't want to try out that accent? ;)

I've been reading it aloud to my daughter and she's really excited to get on to book 2!

My review is posted: http://www.bittersweet-enchantment.co...

description

First Impressions: I was asked to read Oracle - Sunken Earth by the authors agent a few months ago. I decided to give the book a try even know pure fantasy is not one of my favorite genre's. I adore the cover, so very colorful. I also love that the book is set in Florida and since I myself used to live there at one time thought it would make for a good read. Even before reading the book I was glad that I did know the area and was aware of the kind of hurricanes that go through there. I was intrigued to find out how the author would portray such intense storms and have them tie into the story itself.

My Review: The book takes place in the present day and begins with a very intense scene in which the captain of the US coast guard, Jaret Cooper is rushing to a boat in the ocean which is on fire in attempt try to save all aboard. Once he arrives on scene he comes in contact with a old man and a boy fighting over a round object. Jaret knows he must rescue those aboard but the old man refuses to leave without taking what he came for. After a short battle scene Jeret gets the boy off the boat and on the life raft but he himself goes down on the sinking boat, now lost at sea. The boy he saved is found and taken in my Jaret's family who soon adopts him. Ret does not remember any of his past or how he got to be where is now, but soon a turn of events changes everything. Ret Cooper now will find out who is really is and what his true purpose is. This book takes the reader on a fun and mysterious journey, with a unique take into a different world that the author creates. All of the character's are so very interesting and some are kind of strange to say the least. I really enjoyed all of the character's in the book and found myself to be quite intrigued by Ret and his past. One major thing I did love about the story was that the authors main focus in the book is the elements, Earth, Water, Fire, Air. This really peaked my interest and helped to involve the book into a a great fantasy. Oracle - Sunken Earth had a Percy Jackson feel to it. The story kept building up and up with so many different twisted and turns along the way right until the very end. I would so recommend it to middle-grade and YA fantasy readers alike.

Now I must be honest and state the down sides for me; as you can see I only gave the book 3.5 stars. While I really did enjoy the story and the character's within. I did have a few things I did not like, such as towards the middle I felt like the pace of the book had slowed and was somewhat hard to get into. Like I said I am not a huge fantasy fan but I do read it sometimes but the genre often lacks in romance. After I read the book I felt kind of like there was a piece missing in the story and I was not sure what. I so think a lot of that feeling is that the ending left on a huge cliff hanger and you would need to pick of the next book in order to see what lies in store for Ret.

All in all Oracle - Sunken Earth was a fun read and I would definitely want to read book two. I feel as the books move forward the story will as well.

Final Thoughts: I am very glad I was given the chance to read the book and loved that some of the books setting was based in FL. Although Oracle had it's ups and downs I did enjoy the read.

This book is about a boy named Ret, who is a bit different. He was found 10 months ago by his adoptive mother and sister, with no memory of his life before he was found. He looks different and has mysterious scars. The story follows him trying to remember who he is and discovering why he's different. I've never been the Percy Jackson series but I imagine they have a similar style, in the way that they are both Y.A books with a male hero, with a mixture of realism and fantasy.

I've read that this is the first book in a series of seven books. I found it to be an interesting read and I'm curious to see where the story goes. I was completely impressed by the style of this debut author and see potential for a very involving saga.

I thought Ret was a very likeable character and found he had admirable traits, such as bravery and loyalty. It's clear that he has it in him to be a memorable hero. I also thought the writing had it's own unique voice that pulled the story along and kept you intrigued.

I liked that the story hinted at future possible romantic interests for Ret but didn't delve into it in this particular book. It left possibilities open for the rest of the series. Personally, I'd rather have a romance slowly build than be thrown in my face. I appreciated it because I could concentrate on the story.

The other characters in the book stood out with their different personalities. I really liked Ret's sister Ana and the silly awkwardness of Mr. Ben Coy. I also enjoyed how the author incorparated the Bermuda(Devil's) Triangle into the story.

Books that have that bit of fantasy/supernatural usually don't appeal to me, so I was surprised at how easily I fell into the world this author built. I'm giving it 3 3/4 stars, so I'll round it up to 4. I think this would be a great read for someone who is looking for a series with a lot of potential.

First, I want to thank the author for supplying me with a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. C.W. Trisef is a new an exciting author that has some wonderful and fresh ideas for a new series. As this book opens, we are thrust into the depths of a hurricane. A boat is sinking fast as the coat guard tries desperately to save it.

Ret doesn't remember anything before the hurricane. All he knows is that he looks different than everyone else and has these strange scars on his hands. What do they mean? Where did they come from? Trying to fit into normal high school life, he soon discovers that the adults in his life may not be who he thinks they are. Why is the new principal suddenly so interested in him? With the help of the mysterious and wealthy Mr. Coy, Ret is about to embark on the journey of a lifetime. One that will answer many of his questions.

Some interesting points of this book is the setting. It takes place on beautiful Tybee Island. The water is a very important element in the telling of this story. The characters are wonderfully written. We learn so much about Ret and his past, but I feel there will be a lot more to come in the following books. One character that I enjoyed was Ivan, the Russian servant of Mr. Coy. His accent is hilarious. It is hard to understand and see what he is trying to say. The reason I am giving it 4 stars is because the ending dragged in some parts. It is not necessarily a bad thing, I wish that it could have been wrapped up more quickly.

I would defiantly recommend this book to anyone from middle grade on up. If you like fantasy you will love this book. It kind of has a Percy Jackson feel to it. I have always heard, write about what you love. You can feel the author's passion for adventure while reading this book. I am looking forward to reading the second book Oracle - Fire Island.

Enter Ret, the boy with a forgotten past and uncertain future. Ret Cooper knows he’s different from his peers, but on his journey in Oracle: Sunken Earth, he discovers that the marks on his hands make him more different than he could’ve ever imagined. He’s not the average lead male; he’s not only the definition of blond and brawn, but also brainy and contemplative. Ret’s head is straight on his shoulders, as it should be since he needs room to carry the fate of the world.

With the accidental of awakening of supernatural powers, Ret’s world changes in an instant. Gone are the days of random scientific experiments, gaining knowledge of anything and everything of the natural world. Oracle takes readers from ordinary life on Tybee Island to the underwater civilization of Sunken Earth. The descriptive writing allows readers to feel as though unraveling the mystery of Ret’s past is a personal adventure. Ret might not discover all he wants or needs to know about himself, just yet, but at least he’s found his beginning.

Trisef creates a slew of vibrant characters to keep Oracle entertaining. A quirky teacher and stone cold principle keeps readers on their toes waiting for the next over the top personality. Between the mystery of Ret’s past and the Oracle, with all the danger it could present, sarcasm and humor take their place. A fine way to keep readers reading is to keep the funnies flying. Along with his adoptive mother and sister, Pauline and Ana, Ret is joined by friend Paige and her elusive father, Mr. Coy. Their adventure forces them to identify enemies and allies while trying to remain safe in a world that has yet to completely reveal itself.

My Review: This was a pretty enjoyable read! It had its ups and downs, but overall it was very entertaining. I'll start with what I did like about the book first:
It was funny! There was definitely a comic-relief type of character.
It was fast-paced and exciting!
It kept me wanting to know what happened next.
The characters were funny!

Here's a few things that I didn't like:
Sometimes it moved a little too fast
I would have liked a little more world-building
The characters weren't all that relate-able (but still funny!)

By the end of the novel, a lot of the things I didn't like were resolved, so it definitely got better as it progressed. I could see my self reading this book again in the future, and I would definitely read the second book. I'd like to thank the author for sending me a copy in return for an honest review. I can't wait to read the second book!

This was an easy one to rate. I rated it a perfect score because it is based on how interesting it was. This book is like a science fiction novel yet it was so believable in real life situations. The way that Ret had to use diving gear to swim down to the bottom of the ocean, and having him describe what it was like down there was really amazing. I loved this book and the way it interpreted the way the earth was made, and it was pretty easy to read. I learned from this book that science fiction books aren't always all fake. This book is kind of like the series of The City of Ember because they both find an old run down city in chaos. It is important that we remember that there are very important elements in this world that affect how we live and this book does a great job of showing us that. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone even if they don't like scientific fiction.

I met the author of the book and he's description of the book was what encouraged me to buy the book, but his description was so simply compared to the book. If you love action and adventure, then this is the book for you. You meet the main character with an intriguing background and different wonders that make you want to discover them. The story line was a big grabber. You were able to relate to the characters and feel as if you were a part of the crew itself. The book took you to a whole new location and has such vivid details so you felt as if you were physically there. I would highly recommend this book to other readers.

this is a great adventure story for young kids, lots of action, bravado and mystery.
The characters are fun and quirky. The hero is young Ret, who washes ashore one day somewhere off the Florida coast after a hurricane and he remembers nothing about his previous life, he looks different from everyone else and he finds later on that he has special powers.
When I received this book, I showed my mom and she snatched it up to Read it first, she got about 1/3 of the way in and my 12 yr. old nephew snatched it from Her! He LOVED it! So it is a definite hit!…:)

Oracle - Sunken Earth (Oracle, #1) (C.W. Trisef)

Young Ret Cooper is found in a rescue boat, the sole survivor with a round object. He is adopted by the wife of one of the boats crew who didn't survive. Ret is not a usual boy, he struggles to fit in. Soon he discovers a mysterious scar on his hand, and finds he has superpowers.

He learns the round object is the Oracle, it is legend to hold six of natures original elements. He must learn of earths secret elements and find them.

A fun fantasy story with adventure, mystery, secrets and magic. I look forward to more in this series.

I really enjoyed this book. It is the first of a series, so the author was establishing the characters and did well in their description. It will be interesting what the author does with some of the characters in the future books.

I am looking forward to the rest of the series. Very promising author. I hope there are not years between the books.

This book was great! Adventure ... war ... magic powers ... secret civilizations ... humor ... What more could you ask for?! Kept me completely engaged and wanting to read "just a couple more pages" from beginning to end. I also love that it's a high school level read, but incorporates great vocab words, social themes, geography, and references to actual mysteries of the universe. I will definitely be picking up book #2, and can't wait to see what's in store for Ret next!

A good first YA novel. Looking forward to the next book in the series. I hope the character of Mr. Coy grows on me a little more. He wasn't my favorite and seemed out of tune in some sections. In general, I thought the characters of Ret, Paige and Ana were well written.

The Oracle series is sooooo interesting, and I finished reading the whole series in just half a month. There are 4 books in the serie; all of them are about Ret and how he collects the elements to "cure the world" I would highly suggest everyone to read this book. "It really gets you hooked"

Very impressed, easy read. School librarians should add this book to their collection. If your students enjoyed Percy Jackson books by Rick Riordan, "The Unwanted" series by Lisa McMann, "The Mysterious Benedict Society" by Trenton Stewart, then they may like this series as well.

This is a really great book series--particularly for young adults looking for more of a fantasy setting with more adventure than usual. This first book starts off a little slow and can really take some time to get in to, however once you get there it's very difficult to put down.
