Well not entirely works for me. Again, the story is mostly copied from FSOG. Dirty Deal is mostly light BDSM. Not much of character development. Only kink.

And the kink is not that great either. Miss Kaswell must wrote this during the height of popularity if FSOG.

This book definitely alternated between 3 and 4 stars for me but in the end I think it had more 3 star moments.

I can't believe I'm saying this as someone who loves single pov books but in this instance I just did not get Blake or her instant fascination with him. He was very...wooden which actually isn't something I hate but I dunno, he just seemed for most of the book to not care that much except for when he was getting his dick wet.

Again, I can't believe I'm saying this but there was maybe too much sex and not enough "let's get to know each other" situations which is why I just couldn't properly get a read on Blake and look, I love spice but the sex became a bit too much of a "let's avoid talking and emotions and bone" situation.

I also found it annoying how Kat got annoyed with him for being incapable of love...like, he straight up put that in his "let's get fake married" pitch hun, you don't really get to be annoyed that he isn't telling you he loves you after what...a few weeks??

It was still an entertaining book and one I read in a pretty short time but it just didn't quite have the chemistry I wanted to elevate it to 4 stars. Still interested in this series cause who doesn't want a hot billionaire to come and solve all your problems??

This book was extremely difficult to get through:
#1: 200 pages too long
#2: too many editing errors
#3: too many conflicts, between characters that are never resolved
#4: The Dom/Submissive scenes, between Kat and Blake, are laughable and not in a good way
#5; The irony was once you wade through the repetitious and redundant sex scenes, there was an interesting story buried underneath.

This is the first Crystal Kaswell book that I didn't absolutely love. That being said, I'm sure that a lot of people will absolutely love it, it just wasn't my cup of tea. This one is about Kat and Blake. Kat is taking care of her sister Lizzy and struggling to make ends meet as a waitress. She was applying for another waitressing job when she literally ran into Blake and twisted her ankle. Making it hard to be on her feet without pain. Blake later shows up in the restaurant where she works with an offer for her. One she really feels like she can't refuse. Not if she wants her sister to be able to go to college or have more than what they already struggle to keep.

I didn't really like Blake. That was where my problem with this book was. I know a lot people will love him but I hated the way he treated Kat. I don't know, I just couldn't connect with him and his actions. The sex scenes were really hot though! I just had a really hard time with it and I think it was just a multitude of things, not any one thing that specifically turned me off it. I'm sure others will love it though, just not for me!

I'm not sure exactly where to rate this book. Debating between 3 or 4 stars, but after thinking about it for like 20 min, 3 stars seems more accurate. This book was told from the pov of Kat. Her character I loved, but everyone else seemed one dimensional. Blake was the worst for me. I didn't get anything from him. I didn't believe the romance between Blake and Kat. Very forced and seemed that she cared more, even at the end. The only time he showed any type of feeling was when they were having sex. A romance story needs more than that. This is a long book to have no spark and chemistry or plot. It was just lust with a side of cinderella. It didn't work for me.

What a great read!! I loved this book! The chemistry between the characters was explosive and I could not put this book down. The writing flowed easily, the story is great. I loved the loyalty the characters had for family, true to life and realistic. Although sometimes books have a predictable outcome the journey is truely what makes a story great and this book is a great read.

Blake, un miliardario eccentrico e maniaco del controllo, incontra per caso Kat, una ragazza vergine e priva di mezzi; ne rimane affascinato e le offre un accordo indecente che prevede un matrimonio fittizio con scadenza predefinita. L’ossatura della storia simil-Cenerentola è piuttosto canonica, eppure durante la lettura alcuni elementi continuavano a strizzarmi l’occhio, identificando il romanzo in modo caratteristico e unico.

Primo fra tutti, la voce narrante. È Kat infatti a raccontare la storia in prima persona, trasmettendo così il suo carattere pragmatico e lasciando i pensieri e le emozioni di Blake nell’ombra più totale. Lo stile è diretto e spontaneo, con frasi efficaci e non ridondanti, come la personalità di questa ragazza che, nonostante la giovane età, ha già vissuto molte esperienze drammatiche e ora non ha peli sulla lingua. Aveva tanti sogni, ma li ha chiusi nel cassetto nel tentativo di regalare un futuro migliore alla sorella.

Non particolarmente intuitiva, mantiene quel pizzico di ottimismo e sfrontatezza che la spingono a intraprendere l’avventura con Blake, sottovalutando gli aspetti negativi e cogliendo solo l’opportunità di fare tanto buon sesso insieme a un uomo affascinante con una ricompensa economica notevole.

Lo stile sincopato, il ritmo serrato e l’assenza praticamente totale di eccessi introspettivi rendono la lettura ermetica e sfidante. La narrazione non ci fa accoccolare nell’intimità dei personaggi: entriamo nei risvolti emotivi e li attraversiamo con la stessa rapidità con cui ne veniamo spinti fuori, scivolando in fretta verso la scena successiva. Se vogliamo assaporare l’intensità delle emozioni, i momenti romantici o il pathos dei colpi scena dobbiamo prendere delle pause. Non ci rendiamo subito conto di quanto questo stile asciutto, scorrevole e minimalista sia costoso; a nessuno mancano davvero le ridondanze introspettive, eppure ci accorgiamo che gli elementi giusti inseriti al punto giusto sembrano avere qualcosa di sbagliato. Riflettendoci, credo che semplicemente i conflitti interiori, i dubbi morali e le remore affettive non provochino talvolta abbastanza echi emotivi e diano quindi l’idea di essere stati affrettati rispetto agli eventi.

È romantico. È un impegno per sempre. Promettiamo di proclamare il nostro amore davanti a tutti. È bellissimo. Solo che è una farsa. Atteggio le labbra a un sorriso. Mi sforzo di guardare l’anello. Cattura tutte le luci della stanza. Si prende gioco della mia decisione di preferire il denaro all’integrità morale. All’onestà, all’amore e all’affetto.

Il romanzo è indubbiamente un erotico, ed è evidente da subito perché, anche se Kat è illibata e nuova alle relazioni, il solo fatto di trovarsi in presenza di Blake le scatena dei calori strani, dei brividi passionali, delle fantasie su loro due insieme, un desiderio che non ha mai provato; si capisce che bruceranno di passione molto presto, e che questo avverrà a prescindere dalla trama romantica che potrebbe svilupparsi tra loro.

Per apprezzare maggiormente la coerenza del personaggio, ho scientemente deciso di ignorare il fatto che Kat sia vergine. L’aspetto è irrilevante sia per lo sviluppo della trama sia nei pensieri di entrambi i protagonisti. Neppure il dubbio morale dello scambio della verginità per denaro viene menzionato, privandola di fatto perfino di un certo valore “affettivo”, per non citare quello economico.

Ma soprattutto il tono di voce di Kat e l’atteggiamento che mette in atto nei confronti di Blake non mi hanno mai confermato timidezza, ingenuità e illibatezza: è anzi una ragazza lussuriosa, passionale e molto sexy, e non riusciamo a capire come possa non aver avuto altre esperienze prima di oggi. Con Blake scopre di avere preferenze per l’uomo autoritario e per il sottomettersi al suo controllo. Le piace sperimentare (nuovi) modi di fare sesso, che si tratti di esibizionismo o di pratiche particolari che lui le fa provare (contenzioni etc). Non si fa mai cenno al fatto che per lei sia la prima volta di ogni cosa.

«Dimmi che mi sbaglio.» Con le dita mi sfiora la pelle nuda sulla schiena. Le posa sulla mia cerniera. «Che t’importa?» Abbassa gli occhi. Sembra davvero ferito. Credo. Le sue espressioni sono tutte così simili. «Voglio fare in modo che tu sia il più possibile a tuo agio.» «Perché non vorresti una moglie difficile?» «No.» Mi slaccia la cerniera. «Mi piaci, Kat. Voglio che tu sia felice.» «Davvero?» «Non mento quando siamo soli.» Essere felice è un’impresa ardua, date le circostanze. «Non succederà. Non con tutto questo imbroglio.» Lui annuisce comprensivo. «Non pensarci.» È più un’affermazione che una domanda. Annuisco comunque. Fisso gli occhi azzurri di Blake. Sono ancora belli, profondi e impenetrabili. «Distraimi.»

Per quanto l’intesa sessuale tra i protagonisti sia esplosiva, il desiderio di Kat di conoscere meglio Blake, abbattere i muri e accedere alla sua vulnerabilità apre via via piccole crepe nella corazza dell’uomo, e fa entrare il tepore dell’intimità nel suo scudo glaciale. Kat scardina un punto alla volta l’accordo stipulato con lui, fino a rendersi conto che nessun contratto potrà proteggerla dal mortificare i propri sentimenti crescenti per un uomo che non è capace di provarne. Viene travolta dal peso della farsa e si accorge di dover fare una scelta: rispettare i patti e mantenere le distanze emotive oppure essere fedele a se stessa e accettare di soffrire. L’atteggiamento imprudente iniziale viene quindi ricondotto a maggiore razionalità, dando più credibilità alla trama.

Una volta compresi i propri sentimenti, Kat decide di essere fedele a se stessa e di esigere non meno di tutto ciò che merita, conoscendo il proprio valore: fissa l’asticella e non si muove di un passo, aspettando che Blake accetti le sue condizioni. Questo atteggiamento ha fatto nascere in me alcuni dubbi: essere una donna determinata significa venir meno agli accordi presi, se ci si accorge che questi comportano sofferenza per noi? Che ruolo ha la fiducia che qualcun altro ripone in noi rispetto alla integrità che dobbiamo a noi stesse? E quanto l’empatia e la responsabilità di stare accanto all’uomo che amiamo in un momento traumatico possono essere sacrificate in nome del dovere di riconoscere a noi stesse analoga fedeltà e amorevolezza/senso di protezione? L’atteggiamento di Kat è ai miei occhi controintuitivo, ma non necessariamente sbagliato. Ho trovato una certa rigidità nelle sue posizioni, perché se da un lato mostra consapevolezza del proprio valore e rispetto per se stessa, dall’altro finisce per venir meno ad accordi già presi in precedenza, alla fiducia di coloro che contavano su di lei, al sostegno di cui ha bisogno la persona amata. Essere una donna forte significa davvero questo? Significa pensare al proprio benessere e al proprio cuore prima che a tutto il resto?

Voglio essere alla sua mercé. È inquietante quanto io voglia essere alla sua mercé. Lo conosco appena. Ma voglio che abbia il controllo del mio corpo. È inquietante quanto io voglia che lui abbia il controllo del mio corpo. Mi abbandono al suo tocco. Le sue labbra mi sfiorano il collo.

Se la narrazione in prima persona permette di esplorare tutte le sfumature della personalità di Kat, Blake mantiene il fascino dell’uomo che non si concede. È raffigurato metaforicamente come un personaggio dei fumetti con i mille lucchetti davanti al cuore che lei tenta disperatamente di aprire: per quanto sia intrigata dalla sua maschera imperturbabile ed enigmatica, lei vorrebbe superare questa barriera, conoscerlo meglio e coccolare i suoi sentimenti, dargli calore. Ma è limitata dalla sua incapacità di leggerlo in modo chiaro, non essendo particolarmente perspicace nell’interpretare la comunicazione non verbale. La sua necessità di verbalizzare tutto la rende, anzi, piuttosto cieca rispetto ai gesti che rendono palesi le emozioni di lui.

Proprio Blake rappresenta uno degli altri elementi di successo di questo romanzo. Anche se spiega il motivo per cui ha bisogno di una moglie fittizia, non è chiaro perché abbia scelto proprio Kat, per quanto la sua personalità così “ruspante” sia indubbiamente merce rara nell’ambiente del miliardario.

Apparentemente è il classico principe azzurro rispettoso, tenero, sexy, pieno di attenzioni, disponibile all’ascolto e alle negoziazioni… e ovviamente generoso col suo denaro, ma c’è sempre un’ombra di mistero dovuta alla sua incapacità di comunicare. Questo, unito alla difficoltà di Kat nel leggere il valore dei suoi gesti, alimenta il senso di insoddisfazione che spinge avanti il conflitto portante della trama.

È coraggioso il tentativo di mostrare il crescente attaccamento di Blake senza sfruttare il suo punto di vista: questo lascia qualcosa di non detto, di sospeso, di solo intuibile, come se l’esito romantico, quando viene raggiunto, non fosse ancora sufficiente, senza la sua totale resa e l’apertura di ogni lucchetto. È un percorso a cui si arriva con fatica, al termine di un arco di crescita, esplorando il suo mondo, le difficoltà e le paure, mostrando i tentativi di Kat per allentare e scassinare le singole serrature e le protezioni che lui ha innalzato contro il mondo.

Una delle cose che mi ha stupita è che non è finita finché non è finita. Il libro presenta una sorta di epilogo quando manca ancora un quinto della trama… non abbiate fretta di dare un giudizio, il meglio deve ancora venire.

I finally did it! Finally finished reading this freaking book.
I’m sorry, but this book was such an awful mess. The writing style was pretty bad, also full of cliché after cliché. A Fifty Shades of Grey knock off. It tried too hard to be something and it was super obvious. It was WAY too long (hence why it took me forever to read it)! I have never wanted to stop reading a book so much in my life, but I literally bared my teeth and finished it, mostly because I hate not finishing a book. The ending literally took me ages to finish and so rushed and everything.
The main character, Kat, I wanted to strangle! She was so unlikeable. I also think she’s supposed to have some PTSD from an accident, but it’s not fleshed out all the way, so major flop on that part. Her and Blake’s relationship (if you can call it that) was absolutely fucking BORING and lackluster. Their sex scenes were way too repetitive with how much story was actually supposed to be behind it all. Literally like every turn of the page... sex... Kat could’ve sneezed and they’d most likely want to have sex. No joke lol. Oh and apparently her hair is blonde?! I found that out within the last 20 pages. Seems like some useful information I’m supposed to know at the beginning of the book but whatever.
Blake was more likeable, but I had my problems with him too (Christian Grey wannabe). He has PTSD too (as one does being an Alpha dude) every time I was going to find out more about it, the rug was yanked out from under me once again. I’m still not entirely sure about all of it, but I have the key points to piece it together for myself and can only assume worse than the book told me. He had his moments though.
As much as this book SERIOUSLY pissed me off, I did enjoy the story a little bit (with what little story there was underneath it all). That’s the only reason I’m giving it two stars instead of one like I was going to. I definitely won’t be continuing the series mostly because I don’t give two shits about Kat’s sister Lizzy (who’s the main character of the 2nd book).
Do not waste your time on this book. It’s not worth it.

Je suis assez déçue par ce roman. Le résumé était fortement prometteur avec tout ce que j'aime ; un contrat qui va unir deux personnages dans un faux mariage. L'idée en soi n'est vraiment pas mal; les choses sont amenées malheureusement par rapport aux autres romans que j'ai pu lire, mais malheureusement je n'ai pas accroché principalement à cause de la plume de l'auteure. Les phrases sont pour la plupart très courtes, ce qui m'a coupé à chaque fois dans ma lecture. Mon rythme de lecture assez soutenu généralement n'a pas tenu le coup pour cette histoire. Ensuite, j'ai trouvé que les actions qui se déroulaient étaient beaucoup trop rapides, comme par exemple la rencontre entre les deux protagonistes et la réalisation du contrat. Les dialogues quant à eux assez pauvres ; ils sont trop courts et pas assez travaillés à mon gout. C'est trop bref et il manque des verbes de parole à la fin des dialogues , sans ceux-ci, ça donne une impression d'absence de passion. Passion, que je n'ai d'ailleurs pas ressentie du tout dans le roman. L'alchimie en aura aussi pris un coup.
Malgré ces points négatifs, il y a une part de mystère qui plane au début du roman et il faut poursuivre notre lecture pour l'élucider. C'est ce qui m'a convaincue de continuer ma lecture jusqu'au bout.

Kat and Blake have quite a story. I liked it but it did not WOW me. Kat is struggling to make ends meet and take care of her younger sister. The mortgage is due and she must find tuition for her sister to go to NYU. Bills, bills and more bills. When she literally runs into Blake she never realized what a change he would bring to her life. He needs a wife fast. He offers her an escape. It is a good thing he is attractive and the chemistry is strong between them. Of course, they both are adamant that they will not fall in love. Of course they both fail. Not an new trope but a well written story that will keep you interested.

Overall this was a good read. Kat is raising her younger sister. She is about to graduate high school and is looking to go to college. Problem is she needs money. Blake offers her money to be his pretend wife. Of course she falls in love with him. The problem us that Blake isn't the loving guy she would like. By the end things did change though. I liked Kat's sister so I'm looking forward to reading her story next.

Felt a lot like 50 Shades, and I haven't read that book or seen the movie. The writing was nothing inspired. And although the events take place during a short period of time, the pace kind of just slogged along.

All the money in the world and rather than get the professional help they all need, they use sex to "heal". *rolls eyes*

Ho appena terminato una nuova storia d’amore. Una storia tra due protagonisti molto diversi che vivono in ambienti completamente diversi.
Si incontrano per caso, il destino ci ha messo lo zampino. Lei in cerca di un altro lavoro, lui in cerca di un aiuto. Blake ha bisogno di una fidanzata per finta, lei ha bisogno di soldi. Kat vive una vita diversa da quella che aveva, fa sacrifici e pensa al bene della sorella mettendo da parte i suoi sogni. Blake gli sta proponendo una via d’uscita, qualcosa che anni addietro lei aveva sognato, ma che un brutto incidente le ha portato via. Si tratta di mentire a tutti, convincendoli del loro amore. Fingere per pochi mesi.

Non mi sta nemmeno toccando e sono tutta un fuoco anche solo a stargli vicino. I suoi occhi azzurri sono così intensi. E la sua voce è così forte. Blake trasuda potere.

Kat sa che sarà difficile, ma ha troppo bisogno di sentirsi più leggera, almeno dal punto di vista economico. L’accordo è semplice, niente sentimenti. Blake non può amare nessuno, è freddo, distaccato, ha il costante bisogno di mantenere il controllo. Kat si lascia convincere ed inizia questa storia. Lei, in cuor suo, sa che i sentimenti sono importanti e non riesce a scindere le due cose. Blake, invece, resta distaccato, riesce a non mostrare cosa prova, le brutture del suo passato lo hanno influenzato, non sa cosa significa amare. Kat ha la possibilità di tirare un sospiro di sollievo, ma allo stesso tempo ha difficoltà a non innamorarsi di lui.

Blake è inebriante. È affascinante. È distaccato, distante e lunatico. Non crede nell’amore.

La storia è molto bella, appassionata, e ben scritta. Anche le descrizioni sono ben fatte e mettono in risalto la passione che c’è tra i due nonostante l’accordo. Kat, però, non riesce a fingere del tutto. Man mano che la storia procede si scorgono i cambiamenti e la corazza che lui ha, sta pian piano crollando. Le sua difese non possono niente contro l’amore. Divertiti a scoprire cosa succederà al cuore di Blake.

Blake Sterling needs a wife so he offers Kat money if she'll be in a relationship with him that will quickly lead to marriage. Kat is struggling to find a way to send her sister and herself to college. She accepts Blake's offer but is worried about losing her heart in the process. Blake assures her that he'll never fall in love with her and with his always in control demeanor she believes that what he says is true.
I loved that Kat and Meryl seemed to bond immediately and that in the end, Kat told her the truth of the situation. Kat and her sister Lizzie's relationship was sweet but I'm glad that Lizzie ended up going to Stanford on her own full scholarship. Blake was a sexy alpha male and I was happy to see him eventually fall for Kat but I wish there would have been his POV so you could see when he fell for her.

Kat is doing her best to keep her head above water but is struggling. When she meets Blake, his deal seems to solve all her problems but what will happen when she falls for him. Fast-paced read with great characters and an entertaining story. The characters have great depth and steamy chemistry. I was hooked from beginning to end. I liked it.

I read this as part of Crystal Kaswell's The First Time: A Romance Collection.

He's rich, he needs to find a woman to marry temporarily, and he picks her after running into her on the street. Literally.

The story is told first person, entirely from Kat's point of view--emphasizing Blake's emotional non-availability. The surprise scene stealer is Blake's mother, a woman that Blake loves unconditionally but whose problems he can't solve with his money. He does what he considers the next best thing by bringing Kat into the family. This story broke a few of the billionaire fake marriage boundaries and left the couple in a better place because of it.

I can see why some found this book challenging.

I enjoyed their romance. So much I actually downloaded the next book.

Super quick to read and found myself unable to put it down.

I didn't really care for this book. Some of the issues that I had were:
Dug his nails in, I dug my nails in, it hurt but in a good way, ugh
Why do you keep order, or getting, gin and tonic if it’s not cool and refreshing?
If you’re facing the mirror so your back is to his front how can he suck your nipples, or you grab onto the lapels of his suit? I think the coordination of other scenes didn't make sense either.
These are just some of the issues that I found that were driving me nuts.
I had a hard time finishing the book but I did and don't think I will read any more.

Not the Cinderella story I’ve ever read before!!

This is no Cinderella story like it says. There was no arch in this book. Don’t get me wrong. I like spicy stories but this was just one long not very steamy sex scene. The whole dom/sub part of this story just fell flat. How I was able to finish the book is beyond me. I couldn’t wait for it to be over. I liked the authors other books, but the style of writing in this story just threw me. Not sure I can finish the series.

Blake had a broken childhood, his father an abusive alcoholic, which led to his own mother’s down fall to compensate. The need to protect his sister, who, in her own loveless marriage, does everything in her power to protect her brother.

Kat had everything she wanted in life, until a tragic accident took her parents from her, and almost claimed the life of her sister Lizzie. Since then she has devoted herself to being there for Lizzie, putting her needs first above her own, making selfless sacrifices time and again. But happenstance, that was all about to change.

It started out by being turned down for a job, then led to being bumped into by a handsome stranger, who takes an instant interest in her, to then being courted with an outrageous proposition, which would solve all her problems financially to pay a mortgage and supporting her sister and her own dreams, the down side is she wants love, but love is the only thing that he cannot offer.

Blake is career focused, driven by the depths of the job that he loves, money being no object to him. But for Kat, money is a need for her, a life line of possibilities to fulfil her wants and needs.

Kat can’t help but be responsive to the way he touches her, the way he makes her feel, she is determined not to feel, but she has this need inside of her that only he can satiate, for him to take her on a sensual and erotic journey, drowning her entire being in unthinkable pleasures.

The secrets, the lies, the twists, the turns lead to the inevitable, the truth. There story was raw and sensual, as it was powerful and confronting. Even though they both had issues they needed to work through, there love for each other heartbreakingly beautiful. It was fast paced and thrilling, it made my heart race and soar to unfathomable heights. The need to see there growing attraction, the lust and fear, to own and dominate, retaliate, to take control, god it was hot.

I was hooked from the very first chapter right up until the last, it told a telling story, especially the complex family dynamics between Kat, Lizzie, Blake, Fiona and there mother Meryl. There was a roller coaster of emotions, but definitely some funny lol moments, but more-so from a very meddlesome sister! The author knows how to write, to ensnare her readers to ensure they’ll come back for more.

And those s€x scenes in and out of the bedroom were absolutely daring, filthy, provocative, possessive, controlling, oh so steamy, deliciously wicked, dirty, hot, beautiful, dark, sensually erotic, naughty, raw, rough, powerful, passionate, wet, dominating and wild and there happily ever after is what you could wish for and more.
