The Dream Eater Saga #0 (of 12)

The entity known as the Dream Eater has been released and walks the Earth searching to destroy all of those born with supernatural ability. Both the heroes and the villains of the Grimm Fairy Tale Universe must join forces to battle an all powerful entity that could very well prove to be the end of them all.

The blurb hooked me completely but this was not really my style of comic. A modern take on the various worlds that make up the Grimm Fairy Tale universe. Good story with excellent artwork, but scantily clad nubile women with massive boobs doesn't really take my fancy.

This book compiles several issues and one-shots to tell the first half of the the dream eater story. It starts out confusing at first and it would be very helpful if you are already familiar with the characters and events that happened before. However, the writers have done a good job trying to make the story accessible to new readers. Since the story encompasses a bunch of different characters and worlds in the Zenescope universe you will still be scratching your head trying to make sense about how they relate to each other.

I liked how each chapter comes from a different comic book and character. This makes the story seem a bit random and out of order. This should be annoying, but instead I found it to be intriguing. I would have liked more cohesion with the Dream Eater character, but that may come in the second volume.

The art work is in typical Zenescope style. Nice art work with beautiful woman and lots of cleavage.

I enjoyed the interesting story, good art work, and will be ordering the second volume.

Now enter the Dream Eater - the new big bad of the series. And it's going to take all the heroes, and some of the villians, all the realms to stop it. I really like this volume since it sets up where everyone from all of the side stories and the mainline stores are within the universe. And it also shows the everything we've read up to the point in Grimm Fairy Tales is all within the same universe - if that was ever a question that may have come to mind. I really liked this one. I liked the story that was collected across all the different releases; I liked the characters and how they're protrayed and shown where they are when they find out how things are going within their world; I love the art for each story; I love how it keeps a consistant pace between each issue. This is just a great volume and I can't wait to re-read the second one.

When you read Grimm Fariry Tales you expect horror which this have - well at times
When you read Grimm Fairy Tales, and the heavily focus should be horror & fantasy but it's the boobs. There is no way around it.
You expect big boobs, mostly woman, little clad but alas no nudity which is a shame.
Apart from this , what I can tell you its a cross over where a bunch of characters within the great universe that is Grim Fairy Tales get together (Sometimes not that nicely) to battle the Dream Eater.

It was a okish story, that disappoints the reader in two points
- some of these books are subpar, to plainly bad
- no nudity

It's readable and you will forget after a couple days - because there is anything memorable. IF there was some nudity I would keep it. Not having that bah.. 4 stars out of 10.

Comic Bento keeps sending me stuff from Zenescope, and this one may be the first I actually liked. I didn't love it or anything along those lines, but it was fine. Granted, if I knew more about the characters, I might find myself getting invested in their survival against the Dream Eater, but since it seems to only eat bad guys to start and then resurrects the villain's victims, while being completely invisible and uninterested in normal people...well, it's really hard to see the danger if the only things in danger are these characters I don't really know.

Then again, Comic Bento only sent me the first half.

The first cross-line event in the Zenescope comics universe. All in all, this wasn't bad even for someone who hasn't read all of the series that feed into this. The concept of having a character that can kill off some of the extraneous characters is a decent hook (although, that doesn't really end up happening, so that was a little bit of a let down). If you're reading through just the Wonderland titles, you can just read this first volume of the event and move on, since the second volume doesn't pertain to anything and the event itself is just okay.

I enjoy the retelling and adaptation of Grimm's tales but the artwork is inconsistent. It goes from spectacular to uninspired. But have to say Dream Eater and Pied Piper, executed very well. Extremely horrifying!!!

A dark take on fairy tales and a broader sweep in it's content for inclusion. Interesting.

Grimm Fairy Tales: The Dream Eater Saga
Plot: Desperate to stop the Dark One, Thane goes to the Cave of Shadows and strikes a deal to unleash the Dream Eater. A lot of the Grimm characters sense the presence of something powerful (Baba Yaga, Anna, Carroll Liddell, Potts, and Samantha Darren (who also sees the death it will bring)The Dream Eater finally is birthed from man’s thoughts, fears, desires, dreams, and memories and begins his mission starting at a carnival. He starts with the cannibalistic (Red Queen Julia) who has been using young lovers to lure them into her tent so she and her other self can feast on their body parts. The Dream Eater then “kindly” repays the favor by making a meal of Julia. Merci Dante is sent to Earth by the Devil to find a powerful weapon that will stop the Dream Eater. Then the Dream Eater finishes off the White Queen (Bethany). What looks like a group of Heavenly beings are alerted to the situation but they decide to take no action and will watch and see how things play out. (1).

My Thoughts: I thought this volume would have more issues but according to Comic Vine Volume 1 just contains Issue 1. (I did most of all of the issues in the saga individually). Mistakenly though I numbered (and reviewed) the prequel as Issue 1. So this is Issue1. I was thankful that I did have all those reviews to look back on because I’d forgotten about Julia and Bethany’s story (and merge). Probably even then it wasn’t clear what had happened because Julia is the one pictured on the throne. If you look hard in the corner of the over-flowing skirt of her dress you see a face, but it’s so distorted that it’s not clear that this is Bethany or that they merged until this issue. The Dream Eater has always been an interesting entity to me because I can’t tell if we should be scared of it or routing for it. It seems to be there to devour (literally) all the worse of mankind. But all these creatures seem also to fear it and see it as a threat. So far it’s got my vote tho. The artwork in this issue is REALLY (really) good. Grimy! Colorful! Disturbing! And the plot is intriguing. So it starts off STRONG!

The characters from several assorted classic childhood tales are brought together for a gruesome battle against a dreadful monster: the Dream Eater. The entire story is dramatic and suspensful from start to finish. It is filled with bloodshed and terror, as well as characters with great moral strength. From the Red Queen who decorates her room with severed body parts to the vampires from Never Land, this book holds countless unexpected twists and turns from some very, well, GRIMM fairy tales. =D

I think this trade (and the companion volume) which for the most part was made up of a series of one shots would have benefitted from recap pages. If you can read both volumes in one sitting. Otherwise, you might get confused. I did, and had to start over

These are my guilty pleasure horror books and it was nice to see how they related to each other.
