This book was definitely a shocker. When I first picked it up I expected an okay read with decent romance and sort of likable characters. This book delivered so much more.
Lora is an ordinary teenager, or so she thinks. However, her life takes an exciting and dangerous turn when she meets Chance . Lora is a great character. She wasn't a Mary Sue and she wasn't the type of character that mopes about how terrible her life and how she just wants to be a normal girl. She was kind and loyal and even though she had her flaws but overall she was a great character in the way she handled things. I loved the fact that she didn't become judgmental when her best friend comes back completely different she just accepts the new her.
Chance was sweet. I was a little weary of him at first , I mean he was a little too perfect, but taking into consideration that he's an actual prince from a fairy-tale land, I guess his behavior was correct was his character. The thing that set me off a little was their relationship. I mean it was fast paced. I have nothing against insta-love as a matter of fact I really like the whole soul-mate love at first sight story-line but in my opinion there needs to be a development to the relationship and a really good reason for intense feelings. Luckily, the romance wasn't the main focus of the book so it wasn't a major issue.
The plot was hard to describe. It's different from most of the shifter books in that it has a fairy-tale feel to it, but it was also similar to many YA books out there in the way it progressed. Girl sees hot boy, girl finds out hot boy likes her, girl goes on date with hot boy and realizes that he's different, girl realizes that her family has been keeping secrets from her and that she has powers, girl faces bad guy and realizes she has to save her world. So yeah the plot wasn't overly original but it was good nonetheless.
This book definitely has similarities to Twilight but it's definitely not Twilight 2.0. So I would recommend this book for those that both like Twilight and don't.

Loramendi's Story is the latest word treat from Angela Carlie, and the first in the new Lord of Shifters series. The wonderful characters combined with an intriguing plot made for a story that pulled you into it and wouldn't let you go until the very last page! I loved the fairytale elements that were woven throughout the story, a refreshing twist on the paranormal genre. The story was full of twists and turns that never went where I thought it was going, a wonderful thing since I love the unexpected. The mix of reality and fantasy was fun and it kept you turning the pages to see what was going to happen next.

The characters were what really drove the story for me. I love an understated heroine, and Lora was that for me. After her mother disappeared when she was very young, she had been taken in and raised by Aubrey, her mother's best friend, never knowing much about either of her parents. She began the novel as a slightly shy and maybe even a little awkward girl, feeling a little plain Jane compared to her best friend Jess. Jess, although a minor character, had her own storyline that added a bit of reality to a fantasy tale. Chance, the leading man, was everything you could want in a guy. Think Edward meets sexy surfer hottie! Every one of the characters, no matter what their role in the story, were completely believeable. Even the otherworldly characters and creatures were masterfully created and perfectly able to be imagined as real.

In all of her books, the author creates such personable characters, characters that draw you in and make you feel with and for them. They make you feel invested in their stories, and when the story ends, they leave you wanting more. You can have the most interesting premise of a plot in the world, but without amazing, well-rounded characters, it will fall flat. Carlie is an expert at having both and weaving them together to make a story alive for the reader. Loramendi's Story comes out on August 7th at the retail stores listed above, which will be linked on Release Day. I highly recommend picking up this book, as well as all of her others!

I read in the Acknowledgments of this book that one of the critique partners compared Chance Miller to Edward Cullen, saying Chance will give Edward some solid competition. I couldn't agree more.

I love when I read the right book at the right time. Loramendi's Story was that book for me. I was looking for something YA with princesses and castles and romance. Angela Carlie delivered - and so much more. Loramendi's Story was very well written, an exciting tale that kept me on the edge of my seat the few hours it took me to read it. Lora was a character I could relate to, Chance was the boy I wanted to take home, and Aubrey was a wonderful grandma nearly reminiscent of my own. I love that this book took place in Washington because Carlie's descriptions make me feel like I just spent a few days in that area, an area I long to visit some day.

This was a great adventure. A great new look at shapeshifters and fairytales. I loved the animals chosen, the concept behind being a shapeshifter in the story and the idea of being a princess in a far away (or not so far away) fairytale-like land. Lora has already found her prince; now she just needs to slay the dragon (or whatever form the bad guy takes).

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves to read fairytales and about shapeshifters. This book maybe listed as YA but it's age barrier is as timeless as the tales it's crafted after.

This is one of those books that takes you by surprise. The story starts off with Lora who lives in a small town in Washington where nothing much happens. Lora spends her days watching windsurfers at the beach, hiking with her friends Jess and Johnnie and waitrsesing on the weekends. After her mom disappeared when she was younger her mom's best friend Aubrey takes her in to live with her.

The beginning has some crazy, funny and unpredictable moments. Among those Lora's best friend has a new look and attitude when she returns from vacation, a man gets eaten by a bear and Lora herself encounters a large bear while hiking. Not to mention some of the strange people she meets along the way. Then we meet hottie windsurfer Chance. Say no more, yeah he's hot, charming and an all around nice guy but there's so much more to him. Lora and Chance meet and sparks fly instantly and the romance just blossoms from there.

I love shapeshifters and the way the author brought shapeshifting into this story was very interesting. Something different that I have not read before. The whole fairy tale world was so well done and it made me wish it could happen to me. I loved all the characters, even the evil ones. This story has it all, romance, action, adventure, suspense, mystery and friendship. There are lots of twists and turns, laugh out loud moments and hot guys. I mean who doesn't love hot guys? I love paranormal romance but don't worry there is plenty of action and suspense too.

I was drawn in from the first page and didn't want to put it down. I liked the ending and can't wait to read what's to come next in this series. I'm now a fan of this author and will continue to read her books.

I wish I could unread the 80% of this book I managed to get through before vomiting all over it

Another paranormal relationship based on.. absolutely nothing

I give up. It was a free kindle book, and I got exactly what I paid for. This style of writing is becoming all too common, and I fear for future generations.

Part of me wants to view it less harshly since it's a YA book - but there's so much good YA out there that to do that would be a disservice to great YA authors everywhere. Most books aren't going to be earth shattering, but at some point, a book has to progress beyond the formulaic and mundane "awkward girl falls in love with ridiculously good looking guy for no reason and toss in some half-assed supernatural conflict" premise. It just doesn't work.

This was such a beautiful story!! I expected the shapeshifters, but was pleased to find such a fairy tale quality to the book. Don't get me wrong, it's not all kissing on the beach - there is plenty of action, too! Lora is a very relate-able, down-to-earth girl who doesn't really believe in myth & magic. But Chance is the perfect prince to help convince her! Even the creepy bad guys have a certain mystery about them that makes me very curious to read more!

An alright paranormal romance. I think I got this book looking for books to read after the Twilight saga. It began good but Edward was a better hero. I didn't get the romance feels from Chance & Loramendi. I'm not feeling the pull to read the other books in this series. I may change my mind because this ended without the heroine & hero getting married.

Loramendi's characters grab you with their sympathetic normality - until you suddenly realize they are anything but normal. Before you know it, you're completely immersed in their struggles, cheering their victories and cursing their nemeses. A great read for all ages.

I was not really sure what I was getting when I opened this book. I love reading shifter books, but find they are either hit or miss. Not many of them hold middle ground. I can honestly say I enjoyed Loramendi's Story. The author has written an interesting plot, with characters that you can relate to. It is not all shifter glam, it has a story behind all that shifting awesomeness. I liked that the plot wasn't all about Lora being this totally awesome girl that could shift and be all powerful. Now I am not saying she doesn't have the potential to be great, she does. But Lora was more of a down to earth kind of girl, with all that teenage drama going on.

Lora is a girl who seems pretty secure with who she is. She doesn't think she is more than what she is and doesn't try to be either. I can actually relate to her on many levels. I laughed at her obvious annoyance at the popular girl trying to pretend she was poor and be friends with them. Lora had honest reactions, and she definitely reminded me your typical everyday teenager. She just happens to have some awesome sauce skills locked in the closet. I liked Lora, she is one of those girls you just can't help but like.

Chance, absolute swoonage going on here. Chance is a gentleman. Though I did find him a little too perfect I do understand that he was not raised in the human world and therefore would not act like us. I did like that the author made him old world, I think it gave him that extra edge. Chance is a boy that knows what he wants and goes after it, and if anyone else has a problem with it, he doesn't care. And in no uncertain terms would he have a problem in telling you so. I loved Chance, if there ever was a boy worth swooning over it is him.

Though there was a fair amount of violence I did not find it overly graphic or disgusting. The shifting from creature to creature was interesting and I found myself flying with Lora when she shifted into a... nope not going to tell what. Hehe read the book and you will find out, trust me it is, and I hate to say this and sound all teenagerish, totally cool. I enjoyed the plot Angela has created, and I am looking forward to reading the next installment to the series. I am assuming she will go back to Lora and Chance in a later book, or at least I hope she will. There seems to be a big story just waiting to be told.

I enjoyed the writing style and I felt like I was in the head of a teenager. Not once did I feel like the story was going off in a direction that it shouldn't of been. I like how Angela dealt with the whole clothing issue. Most authors tend to avoid that part and I am glad that she didn't. It is one of the most annoying facts skipped in shifter books. Address the issue people, thank you Angela for doing so. Overall I really enjoyed reading Loraminde's Story and I will reading more by Angela Carlie in the future.

Lora’s summer was far from interesting until she catches the attention of a sexy windsurfer. Her best friend has returned from being gone all summer but something is bothering her and Lora isn’t sure what it might be. When her windsurfer shows up at her work Lora decides to seek him out where they windsurf and falls asleep only to wake up to him sitting next to her. Chance is determined to win her heart which isn’t hard because Lora quickly falls for him as well.

Things are starting to change for Lora first is starts with a stranger in the forest around fog. Wild bear attacks are happening all over the area and she’s even the target of one. Suddenly Lora’s too tired to function and forced to stay home where she learns the truth of whom and what she really is. As well as who Chance is and what their future holds. Will the dangers that are threating to destroy her get ahold of her?

I liked Lora she seems like your normal everyday girl but she has some flaws. I wasn’t sure about Chance at first he’s kind of comes on to strong. However the more we learn about his story and future with Lora it all makes sense. I’m not a huge fan of insta love I think they need to work at it a little more but they are meant to be. We don’t have another love interest so no love triangle bonus. I wanted to connect with Lora but she just accepted her future and everything going on around her like she was changing her socks.

I picked this one up as a kindle freebie a long time ago and it’s currently not available to purchase. I was drawn to the cover and the synopsis because I’m a huge fan of shifter stories. Loramendi’s story is a fast paced novel that was a quick read it’s a mix of action and romance. I think the concept is very creative I just think the story is rushed and not executed to its fullest potential. I found the idea of alternate dimensions for the supernatural was intriguing and very unique. I secretly hope that since you can’t purchase them maybe we will see them revamped because I think the author is on the right path. I enjoyed the book and I’m curious to see how it plays out in the future maybe if it’s a kindle freebie.

This shifter story is really unique. Angela Carlie's shifters come from three different tribes who all live in a fairylike world. There are other differences but I'll let you discover them yourself. I really enjoyed Loramendi's Story.

We begin Loramendi's story, in a small nowhere town in Washington. The main character is Lora, a senior in high school. She has a boring life. She spends most of her time hanging out with her friends, hiking, watching surfers, and working. After a hike, as Lora and her friends are leaving, a massive bear, tries to get to their car. All around town, weird things are happening involving animals.

Lora works at a restaurant in town and when she is there one day, she officially meets Chance. Chance is a very cute windsurfer that she has seen around town. He makes her nervous and she leaves. She really can't stop thinking about him. They eventually start going out. He seems to care about her so much! The plot starts to twist and turn from there.

You can't help but feel bad for Lora. She has so much to deal with, as she finds out about the three tribes of shifters. She handles it well and accepts everything with ease. There really is so much more to the story, but I can't say it without giving spoilers!!!

I really liked that this shifter story really was unique. The romance between Lora and Chance was quite heartwarming. They seem to have an instantaneous connection and Chance is really charming.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes shifter stories. The romance was of a sweet nature and would be fine for young adults.

I only have one complaint. The story was a little slow to start. However, the plot was moving right along before you had a chance to get bored! I could also complain that it ended, but all good things must come to an end eventually!

I can't wait to see what happens in the next book of the series: Spider Wars: Book One!

“Loramendi’s Story” started with the poetic hook and the pretense of a seemingly normal world. But where the trouble started for me is when Lora meets Chance. There was a certain level of creepiness about his comments and behavior that had me searching for the panic button, and yet Lora wasn’t hitting it or trying to escape. I understand the draw, the connection that was supposed to be there, but I never felt it.

The creepy commentary, of course, was explained when Lora’s past was revealed. It was then you understand Chance’s out-of-place remarks and how they fit into context. Unfortunately, by the time it came, it killed the Chance and Lora bandwagon, and I never could get fully behind a tale that focused on her and her Prince Charming.

By no means does this change how I feel about Carlie as an author, because despite my frustration with the lead couple, I do feel like she does so much more right.

One of Carlie’s strengths is that she writes her stories in settings that she knows. One of my biggest pet peeves as a reader is to read a story set in a place the author has never been – and then they get it wrong. Carlie lives in the Pacific Northwest. When you read her books, the setting is colorful and rich. You get a sense of the area, the feel, the culture. Even if you have never been there, you could say you have by reading her books. She does just a beautiful job in that area.

The other thing I did like about the novel was the back story. It just felt like the world she created had so much more depth and that only the surface was scratched in “Loramendi’s Story.” I see a lot of potential for the series.

Looking at some previous reviews, I see this book is yet another one where it has been compared to the Twilight Saga. Having read those and this, I can concur with the other reviewers. There are similarities but, more importantly, there are differences too. Yes, Lora is awkward and plain (her words), yes Chance is a "HOT water bottle model" (again her words but am I the only one who thinks of an actual hot water bottle whenever I read it?)

It turns out that Lora is not just an awkward teenager with a crush on a vampire but she is actually a Princess of Shapeshifters, betrothed from a very young age to Chance and destined to rule 2 kingdoms and bring about peace - so no pressure then. You also have to worry about Lora's friends - they are supposed to be best buds but she disappears for weeks after meeting a new boy, drops out of high school and supposedly has this mysterious illness that her mother had... and they don't think that is strange? When they see Lora again for the first time in a long time, there's just hugs and 'normal' conversation.

On the whole, this book is quite good and has some interesting twists to the idea of shapeshifters so it was worth the time reading it. However, there are some bits that just don't seem to fit. There is some character development that still needs to be done, and the back story needs filling out a bit more. On a personal note, it would be nice to know WHY Lora falls insta-love with Chance apart from because he's a hot water bottle. If Chance calls her "my sweet" or winks at her one more time though, I think I may scream.

An interesting and entertaining book, could be better but I've read far worse.

This book actually had a fairly good plot line. I liked the world and the concept behind the shifters. I read the book quickly which usually is an indication that I liked the book.

The book could have used some more character development. You meet some characters (such as Julien, Brian, Dillon, Johnnie, and Jess), but you don't get any information about them. I got a few things about Jess and Johnnie, and all I know about Julien, Brian, and Dillon is the basics (nothing about the characters or where they belong in the storyline). Nothing happens to or for these characters.

The relationship between Lora and Chance just didn't work. Here is the thing, authors can do the "we see each other across the room and boom insta-love" and it sometimes works. Most of the time though, these relationships fall flat. For example, you learn a little bit about why Chance is drawn to Lora. All you find out from Lora is that he is HOT HOT HOT and could be a model. Really? Her entire relationship with him is based on the fact that he is good looking. Nothing else is explained about her feelings or why she falls for him. You are told she loves him and you are expected as the reader to follow that. Again, insta-love can work when done right, but the reader needs to be shown the relationship developing and not just told that it happened.

The action was pretty good in this book and I will read the next one. I just hope the author works on the character development a little more.

In Loramendi’s Story, Angela Carlie allows readers into the main character’s mind. Lora’s strengths and weaknesses, and her desires and fears, are all laid out on the pages of this exciting read. She has a destiny, and with each new tidbit she learns of it, readers are right there with her. Each step of Lora’s journey shows how big her heart is and how strong she will become in the future.

The summer of Lora’s senior year changes her life – for better or worse is for the reader to decide. She meets the mysterious Chance amidst strange animal attacks and dealing with a best friend with a whole new attitude. The romance isn’t too heavy, but extremely sweet. From soft forehead kisses and sugary words of encouragement, Chance and Lora have to be named the cutest couple of all time.

Despite the flowering of love in Loramendi’s Story, Mrs. Carlie peppered Lora’s journey with danger. Fortunately, Lora becomes the tough heroine everyone loves to emulate, and embraces her heritage. She’s learned what’s it’s like to be more than ordinary and how important it is to destroy her enemies.

Mrs. Carlie really leaves something for readers to come back to in the first book of her Lord of the Shifters Series.

Loramendi's Story is the first in the new Lord of the Shifters series from Angela Carlie and it shows. The novel ends just when I was most anxious to see what happened next. I found myself staring at the page on my e-reader willing more words to appear.

But this is a good thing. Despite a rocky beginning in which there was a few moments where the writing and description choices made me cringe and pulled me from the story, by the time it ended I wanted more.

Lora was occasionally a little gross. At one point belching several times in a friend's face and another describing a moment in which she didn't care if she was swallowed whole and pooped out. I know they are probably real life actions and thoughts, but they weren't exactly moments I wanted in a paranormal romance.

However the story was intriguing enough to keep me turning the pages. And Chance more than made up for any of Lora's shortcomings. He was tall, dark, handsome, and just as dreamy and protective as I want my heroes to be.

All in all it was a really good story that introduced me to an interesting new world. A great start to a series that I definitely want to see more of.

This book starts right off with a humorous encounter with the main character's best friend showing off her newly pierced flesh. Lora, the main character, keeps a dream journal; the reader reads part of this journal in the second chapter. The tone for the novel is set right after the dream journal excerpt. The novel has an undercurrent of tension that will continue throughout the story. Lora seems to know something is going to happen to her, but she doesn't know yet quite what that something is. "Oh my stars" is one of Lora's favorite phrases, the reader will become close to Lora in this novel and perhaps even regard her as a friend. The setting is mainly in the town that Lora lives in. The drama starts in chapter 3 and continues throughout the novel. Lora and her love interest spark immediately and the reader will be eager to see where their romance is headed. There are a few surprises in this novel, the ending itself is surprising and might be indicative of a second novel (yay!). This novel is recommended for young adults who enjoy romance with a lot of action.

This book definitely had potential! It was interesting to see something different about the whole shapeshifters thing. I just wished there was more. I got really annoyed with Lora though. I mean okay you like windsurfers, but really? I mean it just seemed so fake for her to fall for the guy in like 2 days, while he's been stalking her for a month. The world is changing around her, hell she's going thru some weird transformation herself, granted she doesn't realize it, but hello you wouldn't act like it was not big deal! And she's been kept in the dark about her heritage and everything about who she is, I would think you'd be pissed and have some type of reaction. I guess the plot moved too fast for me and the author didn't take the time to build on some things, like who the characters really are. The ending kind of sucked too. I mean it was a happy ending, but it wasn't really a true ending. There were too many things playing out in the background. I hope the author continues with this story.

The Good:

The very unusual opening, gives the book a unique beginning.
Bear shifters aren’t as popular as were-wolves and were-tigers, so it’s a refreshing change of pace.

The Bad:

Some of the phrasing reads awkward or flat out doesn’t work, like to the point of completing keeping me at arms’ length instead of losing me in the story.

Lora seemed a bit flat to me, too flat for a main character.

I’ve used guns before. I’ve shot everything from a double barreled shotgun, to a 9MM. Unless Johnnie’s handgun was a.44 Magnum {which will not fit in a shorts pocket}, it will only piss a bear off, even if he hit the heart area of the chest, the bear’s skin is tough… so the bear running off bleeding profusely and the blood spattered on Lora’s shirt was too fake to me.

Not the type of story I normally read, (I don't read books like Twilight) but really good nonetheless. I am so intrigued by this story line and its characters that I might just have to purchase the others in the series just to find out what is going on in this fantasy world of shapeshifters.

I really like the character of Lora and thought she was well developed throughout the story, not sure about the other characters though. I wasn't a huge fan of Chance (or his brothers.) I thought he was a bit too perfect and he seemed a little flat, but their relationship was sweet and heartfelt. I really liked Aubrey and her friends Jessie and Johnnie.

Overall, I thought the author is a great writer and her stories read really well and keep my interest. AND I love the Washington references. I would definitely recommend this book and I hope to read the other stories from Angela Carlie soon.

Loramendi’s Story was a combination of shifter/romance/fairy tale all rolled into one. It had pretty much everything. Romance, action, danger and mystery.

I really liked Lora as a main character and her friends were a great balance. I liked Chance too, but at times he was so formal it was annoying. I suppose coming from where he did (I don’t want to give anything away) may have had something to do with it, but the dialogue still seemed a little awkward coming from a teen.

There is definitely more to this story. The next book in the series is Spider Wars and it features Jess’, Lora’s best friend. Since a lot of Jess and what was going on with her was part of the mystery in Laramendi’s Story, I can’t wait to see if the second book clears some of that up.

The reason I picked this one out was the cover. I know that is bad, but I just love it. Having the different animals right behind her, sets off that the story is going to be new and different.
As I got into the story, it’s self I wasn’t so much surprised as I was happy for the chance to read a story wit a different kind of shifter’s in it. I mean I love shifters a lot, but reading all the different way they can be there is just something that I enjoy.
This was a great story from the beginning to the end, I just wish it would have been longer. Although now I can go and get book 2 :)
Therefore, all in all this is a great story and I am giving it

So this is yet another first book, given free on Amazon, that I chose because it sounded interesting and different. And it was different, but it left me expecting a lot from the second book I haven't gotten yet. So I'm reserving judgement until I've read it. I hope for more info on some of the characters introduced in the book, as well as more insight into the events of the first book. A good start, but lots of holes that need filling. A young adult fairy tale

This story is fairly predictable with the lost Princess being found by the Prince. It adds shape-shifting to the mix for a slightly different take on the classic story. Overall, the story isn't bad, just not great. There are a few grammatical errors in the latter part of the book, but nothing that really jars. I would have liked to see more of a storyline with stronger characters. It's a decent read regardless.

This was a little slow to start out, but in the end I really liked this book. My one complaint is that it ended with a lot of story untold. There is another book in the series, but from what I can tell, it will not be picking up where Loramendi left off. This disappoints me because I'd like to finish her story and see how the battle plays out....

The plot was sooo slooow!! I couldn't stand it so I stopped reading it by Chapter 20. Lora was very naive and it was more interesting reading about her dreams then what she was doing when she was awake. Chance was mysterious and even though he sounded bewitchingly hot, he was too hard to get a read on him making me feel like Lora and him weren't a good match.

Good story. Thought the book should have gone on, or that there is going to be several sequels. Want to know more about the Chance's brothers, and know if Lora is going to find her mother. But good story couldnt put it down.

It sort of seems lora is a little self centered but thts just me! Cant wait too finish!


I well lora pissed me off sometimes and was hung up on this boy. I just wish tht it had more action the boy crazyness. But chance was pretty great! For tht four out of five. Recomend.

Really enjoyed this book. I am looking forward to the rest of the series. If the whole series is as good as this book I will read them back to back, instead of taking a break to read another genre.
