No man in the galaxy inspires more fear than Korbin, the Admiral of the Black. His life as leader of the pirates leaves little room for trust, so when Korbin's second-in-command disappears without a trace, he suspects the worst
Zain Strand has left his life as a sex slave behind and risen within the pirate ranks. But he'll abandon it all to rescue an old friend from recapture by the slavers-even if that means a suicidal confrontation with his old master. He doesn't expect Korbin's arrival, doesn't want Korbin's help . . . but Korbin gives Zain no choice.
Posing as Master and slave to infiltrate a slave auction, Korbin and Zain embark on a journey of lust that rapidly reveals their deeper feelings. When Zain's old master discovers their ruse, Korbin must do everything in his power to save both their lives and their newfound love.
A romance novelist and short story writer, Christine has over forty publications to her name. She loves to exercise and stops writing just long enough to keep her body in motion too. When she’s not pretending to be a ninja in her basement, she’s most likely spending time with her family and two dogs.
My thoughts on any of my Goodreads reviews are only my opinion as a reader. I don't post anything here that I'd give less than three stars to.
Zain, second in command on the Wayvern, leaves the ship to seek revenge. He hopes to kill his past torturer and Master, giving him the chance to save a friend, currently held captive. But Zain doesn't expect to be stopped from his suicide mission, by Korbin...his leader and rescuer.
He would die with a light heart... No one would miss him.
They work together to stop Clayson, a slave trader, from further capturing others...and to help Zain heal from his painful past. Korbin and Zain plan to infiltrate a slave auction, by posing as Master and slave. Only the roles affect them more than they anticipated, and an unbreakable bond is formed.
"I could lick every inch of you... Slide my body against your until you're begging me to spread my legs and let you fuck me."
"I'm not making you do anything, Zain. You know what I want. I know what you want. The only one preventing it is you."
Galactic pirates, galactic sex slaves, galactic action in and out of bed...this MM Romance lover couldn't ask for more. I've not enjoyed a sci-fi series as much as D'Abo's since Morgan Hawke's Interstellar Service & Discipline. While the latter was very much a BDSM tale comprising some things that were hair-raising for me at the time, d'Abo's Bounty series is focused on romance and the protags' battling their inner baggage to win their HEA.
Korbin, a pirate known as the Admiral of the Black, hasn't realized that his dependence and trust on Zain Strand, a sex slave who found refuge with him and on his starship five years ago, has deepened into love. Yeah, zillions years into the future, some males still have problems with the four-letter word...
Zain has been trained as a sex slave and is so conditioned that even though he's fallen in love with his superior, cannot say his name during sex, not even when their relationship has reached a point the two men can't deny is much more than just sex. And the sex doesn't happen until now, 5 years after Zain joined Korbin's crew and became his second-in-command. Zain may have fallen love with his superior but Korbin must always remain a "Sir". To say his name in the throes of passion would require him breaking past his slave training and that's just a tad difficult.
When the two join forces to rescue Marissa, Zain's friend and fellow slave before Zain's escape, Korbin makes use of a special necklace with a stone which transmits the thoughts of another person, specifically the one he's talking to. Given to him by Wolf Faolan (the protag of No Quarter), it comes in very useful when trying to get critical info out of the slave traders and another enemy. Perhaps just as useful, but not so comfortable, when Korbin can know Zain's thoughts and feelings towards him.
How the two men overcome their emotional/psychological disabilities to accept the other's love is a great story, one that also gave me some good ol' space wham-bang-kaboom action and the brief introduction to Caden, Wolf Faolan's bad-ass cousin who, I suspect, could be the next book's hero - if there's another in the works.
...and I sure hope there is! If you enjoy space sex and pirates and Roh-mance you shouldn't miss this series. I didn't read No Remedy even though it was the first book because it had girl cooties but I enjoy Ms d'Abo's story-telling so much that I bought it yesterday.
To be honest, I can't believe I finished this. I'm not entirely sure why I thought it would be a good idea to read it in the first place (honestly, the sex slave thing was pretty off-putting) but I did and so I read it.
And I wish I hadn't.
It's not that the writing was bad, as with most of these kinds of books which I give one star, because it wasn't. It's better writing than most of the ones I read, although that's not hard because sometimes the writing is flat out awful. The issues I had lay entirely with the plot.
For one, the whole sex slave thing is dodgy from the off. Especially the fact that Zain then has to go back into that environment after having escaped and endure it again. And Korbin doesn't really attempt to make it easier on him. There are the few cursory are you sure you're ok with this's but nothing else.
The mind reading stone is another problem I had. It just makes everything suspiciously easy. No worries that they can't communicate while they're in master-slave disguise (which, again, no thanks. Couldn't it have been the other way round? Also the bit where it's like Zain's all submissive, that he likes it? It doesn't seem all that believable given that he spend a lot of his life as a sex slave being abused by his master...) they can send thoughts to each other's minds (and just wait for it, by the end I'm willing to suspend belief for a lot of things but this is not one of them).
The final big problem I found was right near the end, at the climax, where Zain is captured by Clayson (his old master) and Like I am absolutely not here for shit like this when it's not apparently gratuitous, let alone when it is. It's gross and I really did almost quit reading right there in disgust. Instead I just skipped that scene. Then, a bit later, there's another scene where Clayson comes and beats up Zain and he slams his head repeatedly against the floor, but then two minutes later Zain's alright and walking around just fine. It doesn't make sense.
What a satisfying conclusion to the Bounty series. Korbin was so mysterious and I'm glad we got to know him a little better. Zain has been through so much but he's drawn to Korbin. Very exciting and super sexy.
No Master is the third book in the Bounty series by Christine d’Abo. Though characters from the other books do make an appearance, No Master reads as more of a standalone. So if you haven’t read the rest of the series, you’ll still be able to enjoy it. This book has the same quickly paced action and smooth writing as the rest of the series and it’s has a forward momentum that keeps you reading right up to the end.
Korbin and Zain are both complex and interesting characters, though they didn’t stand out as clearly for me as some of the others in the series. As an ex slave and sex worker, Zain has worked hard to make a new life for himself aboard the Wyvern. He is a natural submissive, but now he serves freely and of his own choosing. In Korbin he sees a man who is worth his whole world, but despite his attraction, he keeps their relationship profession. And Korbin has been alone so long he never dares to hope the friendship he has with Zain could be something more. The give and take they develop is as believable as it is sweet. Despite the fact neither man has a particularly gentle nature, they handle one another with a rather beautiful kind of tenderness. I do feel these two characters were slightly harder to connect with because they had only very loose ties to the world building and character development in the previous books. But they were still well rounded and engaging characters.
The series is addictive. Why stop at one when there are several books in this tasty series? This is the third one and can be read as a standalone. Zain is a formidable right hand man of one of the most feared pirates, Korbin. Zain is on a mission to rescue his friend. Several of them escaped slavery and keep an eye on each other. They all have bounties on their head as Zain's former master doesn't let anyone leave him unless sold or dead.
Zane is no longer a frightened and desperate slave. He still doesn't want anyone in his new life know about his past, especially his sexy captain. Going on a suicide mission is probably not the best way to keep the past under wraps. When Korbin hunts down Zane and uses a special device to keep tabs on him, there will be hell to pay. Zane will have one sore ass.
This story set up is interesting and pulls me in. The characters are admirable, sexy and just a little bit deviant. The erotic power exchange between Zane and Korbin is sexy hot. It borders on dub-con which makes it that much hotter. Ms. d'Abo does diety kinky sex so well. The chemistry between the two men is delicious.
The plot of thus story seems to be building this world more. With hidden agendas, kidnapping, enslavement and sadistic crime lords, this tale moves at a god pace. After whipping through this book, a reader will want to read the next. This space opera is recommended to kinky m/m readers who like the dark edge of dub- con. *provided by NetGalley
No Master is book three in Christine d'Abo's space Bounty series. Although it is book three, you do not need to read books one and two to enjoy No Master. I got hooked on the series from the start, and with this one being M/M, I knew I needed to read it!
Korbin, Admiral of the Black and head of the one of the scariest pirate groups around, doesn't trust anyone. No pirate would. Except he realizes he does when his second in command Zain comes up missing and he suspects the worst.
Zain escaped his previous life as a sex slave to form a new life as a pirate. Korbin offered him refuge and over five years, he's risen up the ranks. He's grown close to Korbin but he is hesitant to call it love. His slave training conditioned him to act a certain way, and although he knows he isn't a slave any longer, he just cannot break the hold that training still has on him.
Zain goes after his old master for revenge. One of his best friends has been recaptured and he wants nothing more than to save her and take out his old master. When Korbin unexpectedly shows up, Korbin doesn't give him a choice in accepting his help.
Korbin and Zain pose as Master and slave for a slave auction, where they expect to be able to exact Zain's revenge. They weren't expecting the feelings that have been growing to be exposed. They used a special necklace with a mind reading stone to get info on the other slave trading bidders at the auction. But also found out the thoughts and feelings each one has for the other. How do they handle that??
I really enjoyed reading this space pirate tale! The action and drama were exciting! Korbin and Zain's story was very intriguing and original! Both men had issues that they needed to deal with and the other helped with that. They made a great team and I was rooting for them and their revenge plans to work out! I felt that they both deserved to get that HEA that we all are after in life and love!
I also liked to see the introduction of Caden! Talk about a kick-ass dude! I am certain he needs his own story-I know I'd like to read it!! (hint, hint!)
If you are one that likes M/M romances, space drama with pirates, and non-stop action- look no further No Master delivers it all! And while you are at it, add all the Bounty series to your TBR lists now! You will be very happy you did!
4.5 stars/4 flames
This book was gifted to me by the Jeep Diva for the express purpose of an honest review. The rating and review are solely my opinion and in no way was I compensated.
No Master was my first read by Christine d’Abo, and what a treat it was. To read this review in its entirety, please visit http://thereadersroundtable.com/eroti...
2.5 I vaguely remember reading this. Parts of it were good-ish, but they weren't capitalized on and instead fizzled out. It wasn't bad, but it could have been better.
Didn't like this one as much as the first in the series, but it was still a fun read. The dynamic between both mc's is hard to resist only because they are working so hard to resist each other. Definitely would recommend the series. I haven't read many books by Christine D'Abo but plan to in the future!
I loved this book in this series the best of them all. Zain and Korbin were so very hot together and I loved every moment of this book as they learned to trust each other with their hearts. This was probably one of the best friends to lovers books that I've read.
Given that I had to power my way through the book for a challenge, it actually ended on a high note. There wasn't as much BDSM as I had feared, but the characters really didn't click for me.
Zain Strand is about to get his revenge! Until his boss, Korbin, stops him. Oh sure, Korbin saved his life, but revenge! Korbin is the Admiral of the Black, and Zain is his second in command. Korbin isn’t going to let him just waltz away and maybe kill himself. That the two men are sort of in love with each other and have been for a long time isn’t a factor at all! Except it totally is. Korbin decides to help Zain with his scheme without knowing all the details. They end up going to sex slave auction as a Master and slave couple. What could possibly go wrong? Both men have a lot of trouble dealing with how they feel about each other and how much they want each other. There is actually quite a bit more at stake here than just revenge. Both men realize if things go wrong it could greatly disrupt power in their corner of the universe, and both men are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice to prevent the bad guys from winning.
I was incredibly eager for this book. I think Korbin and Faolan have been my favorite characters in the series, and I enjoyed their friendship. I do feel compelled to point out the Admiral of the Black is the Dread Pirate Roberts. It’s more of a title than an actual man, and everyone is pretty sure Korbin will most likely kill them by morning. Zain is the quiet guy no one suspects of having his own motives or significant personal history. Korbin trusts him to not be involved in a mutiny, but he has no knowledge of Zain’s personal time as a sex slave, or why he was such easy prey to a slaver.
There was less sex in this book. Zain and Korbin have been in love in their own way long before they admit they want to take the relationship sexual. Neither man wants to mess up a good thing. Rather than being forced by circumstance into sex not long after the start of the book, Zain and Corbin find themselves forced into relying on each other in ways both familiar and not. They have to break down the barriers they still have left between each other. Sex isn’t the crux of their relationship.
I enjoyed this book. I’ve enjoyed all the books is this series, and in some ways this was my favorite. Korbin is a deeply inflexible character and cannot remain so if he’s going to get the man he loves. He has to jump off the metaphorical cliff and make new plans for his life.
This is the third book in Bounty series and I have found that with each book, I like the last eat even more then the last. With every book Christine d'Abo has been able to add more excitement, more intrigue, more action, and most of all more lust and love then the previous book.
This book was based around the Admiral in Black and his second in command Zain. Korbin (admiral in black) is a hard one to get a read on at first. It takes a little while in the book for me to get a real feel on him and why he does not let people in so easily. But once I did get a read on him it became real clear that he tries to not get close to anyone because he is scared of losing them. He is scared to care for anyone for fear of someone using them to gain any kind of power over him. I also think that he longs to be able to let go and allow someone to lend comfort to him when he needs it, someone to be able to give up some of that hard control that he always has to be in, someone to love him and love back, someone who he can share the real him with. He finally gives in to those desires with Zain and it scares him to death.
Zain in my opinion is looking for the same as Korbin. He wants all the things Korbin wants but he was a slave for so long that he is not sure he can give Korbin what he needs because it goes against everything he was trained to do. He has to fight those controls that was beat and trained to him to do. He finally breaks free and is able to feel his own desires and love for the first time because of Korbin.
This book is not only about these two coming together it is about finding and freeing everyone of the bad guy who bike and trained many slaves. It is an extremely dangerous situation with adventure, action, and danger.
Loved this book and cannot wait till the next book in the series.

Blog Post: http://lovebytesreviews.com/2016/06/2... Korbin is the Admiral of the Black, leader of the biggest pirate band in space. Although Korbin is a very imposing leader, he is also a very lonely leader. The only person he is remotely close to is his second-in-command Zain Strand. Korbin found Zain five years ago, after he escaped his master. Now Zain has disappeared and Korbin will do anything to find him. Zain has gone to find his friend Marissa, who escaped from the same master as he did. He is determined that Marissa will not be sold into slavery again. Zain has done all the preliminary work to ensure he will be able to infiltrate the slavers with ease, everything is going smoothly until Korbin arrives and demands to be in on the mission. They work out a way to allow both of them to be allowed into the slave auction, Korbin will pose as Zain’s master! They quickly realise things are not as straight forward as first thought. Zain keeps having flashbacks to his years as a sex-slave and Korbin can’t help but see his second-in-command in a whole new light, one he’s certain can’t go any further than this charade. As the mission progresses a bond forms between Korbin and Zain and it’s this bond that allows them to survive when everything goes FUBAR!! Zain is lucky to have Korbin there to love and support him when everything blurs and he has trouble staying in the present. Korbin also in lucky to have Zain there to prove that, yes he is worthy to love and be loved. It’s not all smooth sailing but the tumultuous love story between these two is very heartwarming. I have no hesitation in recommending No Master to everyone who loves a good romance story.
Review by Sabrina: Considering this is a fairly short book, I got really attached to the characters. Korbin is someone who is used to being on their own. Or at least, he thinks he is. He doesn't realize how much Zain has come to mean to him until he disappears. Then is prepared to take on the ultimate bad guy to keep him safe. How can you NOT love that character? Zain is almost as awesome. He has some great moments where you can see the person he used to be and how he became the man he is. His story is sad but doable in this universe. There are a few open questions at the end of the book, but I think you get that with any ongoing series. I haven't read the others, but they are now on my TBR list. The only thing that would have made this book better was if there was a glimpse of how they are getting along in their life after this. The book kinda just end when they admit love for each other (did you not see that coming?). Perhaps in the next installment it will gift us with a small look at how they are getting along as a couple. I am definitely going to look for more books by this author as I like the characters she develops. Not to mention, this is an erotica so there was more sex then your average romance novel with it being graphic, but in this book I did not feel like it was over the top. The book wasn't even MOSTLY sex, even with the excuse of being a sex slave owner. Haha. I was very pleasantly surprised.
Quote: I don’t think people ever expect to fall in love. It’s just one of those things that sneaks up on you.
I read this book without reading the first two in the series. I had no issues with understanding the characters or universe. It's told from the alternating POVs of the two main characters, Zain and Korbin.
I can't write much of a review without spoiling an interesting aspect of the universe that's not mentioned in the book blurbs. (I'm sure other reviews will do that for you.) Let's just say that I found the process of the MCs getting to know each other interesting and well written.
This is a story about taking down slave traders and rescuing slaves, so there is a Master/slave power exchange element to it, though Zain and Korbin don't actually have a Master/slave relationship. Outside of the mission they are more or less equals; they are, however, posing as Master and slave to infiltrate a retreat/slave auction. As is the case with slave universes, there are issues of non-consent and dubious consent. I want to say these touches felt quite mild to me, but as I have no issue with reading such, my opinion is likely skewed, thus those who do have a problem with reading issues of consent should use caution.
Quite an enjoyable read. I'll likely go back and read the first books in the series as well. =)
I really enjoyed this installment in the Bounty series. The characters were complex, the world was well thought out, and the tension between Korbin and Zain was delicious! I supposedly had read this book back in 2012, but didn't remember any of it so it was a brand new story for me.
I love slave stories and so really liked the premise of No Master. The dynamics between Korbin and Zain was well done. There was plenty of action, both in and out of the bedroom. I got a good sense of who they were as people and together.
Although this is the last of the series currently published, I would love to have another in this universe. If you love power plays, sci-fi and romance, you should try this.
No Master is a sexy and engaging Sci-Fi adventure. I highly recommend this book and the whole series to anyone looking for an erotic, kinky, and romantic Sci-Fi.
Korbin and Zain are great characters with history and depth. It's intriguing to watch their internal struggles as they work through the external challenges as well as their growing feelings for each other.
The plot is fast-paced and emotionally charged. This is also a very erotic book with BDSM themes.
Even though this is the third book of the Bounty series, the interaction with other characters in the series is minimal. This book stands alone quite well.
*I received a free copy of this book to read for Inked Rainbow Reads in exchange for an honest review.*
Korbin and Zain have worked together ever since Korbin saved Zain from being a sex slave. When Zain gets word that a friend and former sex slave friend has been taken captive, he will do anything to get her free. Even go undercover to be a sex slave again, what he doesn't expect is Korbin to play the role as his Master and how that role affects him.
Korbin and Zain were both characters that made it easy to like them and root for them to survive everything that can be thrown at them. But will they allow what they believe their roles in each other lives should be, to keep them from finding happiness with each other.
This book was an alright read. There were times when the pacing was too slow, and the story seemed to drag. On the plus side I liked that I didn't need to read the first 2 books to understand this world, but there were times I would have preferred it if there was a glossary of the different aliens at the back because there were times when an alien species was mentioned and I had no idea what they were talking about. One thing I didn't like were the rape scenes those disturbed me so much I am giving this book a two and half stars.
This was a fun read. The plot was interesting, but the best part was the fact that D'Abo finally figured out how to properly weave sex into her stories. The plot wasn't stilted or interrupted like in the previous books, which made this story the best one in the series and the one I therefore recommend the most.
I liked this one best so far, even though the sex wasn't as hot and the subject matter a lot harder to stomach. In most ways, I liked the characters in the first the best. Yet, this story held me in better. Again, plenty of minor issues, but nothing major.
I don't typically read bdsm books, but there's something about this author's writing that pulls me in. I wish the author had more mm books. This book is more of a D/s kind of story. I was really more interested in the plot and technology. It was a really fast read that didn't bore me at all.
3.5 Stars No Master is book 3 in the Bounty series. Although not my favorite of this series I still enjoyed reading No Master, there was a good balance between the storyline and the character development.
