Teos keskittyy ennen kaikkea Hanoin myyttisiin vuosiin 1979-1985.

Raa´alla energiallaan ja suorasukaisella seksuaalisuudellaan hämmentänyt häirikköretkue valloitti Aasiaa ja Eurooppaa silloin, kun muut suomirokkarit vielä pitivät nuorisotalokeikkoja suuren maailman meininkinä, ilotulitti glamestetiikalla aikana, jolloin miehen korvakoru tiesi takuuvarmaa turpakeikkaa nakkikioskijonossa, ja räjäytti kertaheitolla suomalaisen rockin lasiseinät seuraavan sukupolven maailmanvalloittajien tieltä.

Teos repii auki vanhat haavat ja puskee vereslihalla läpi vuosikymmenten.

Hanoi Rocks (1979-1985, 2001-2009) on nimi, jota kumartavat musiikkimaailman dinosaurukset Guns N´ Rosesista ja Mötley Crüesta aina Manic Street Preachersiin ja Dave Grohliin – HIMistä, Negativesta ja muista kotoisista sankareista puhumattakaan. Sen vaikutusta suomalaiseen rockiin voisi havainnollistaa vain lanseeraamalla käsitteet “ehr.” ja “jhr.”, aika ennen ja jälkeen Hanoi Rocksin.

Hanoi Rocks soittaa viimeiset keikkansa keväällä 2009, ja kirja julkaistaan niiden yhteydessä 1.4.

Ari Väntänen on toimittaja ja muusikko, joka toimii Suomen painosmäärältään suurimman musiikkilehden Suen toimituspäällikkönä. Hanoi Rocksin kitaristi Andy McCoy ja laulaja Michael Monroe ovat eläviä legendoja.

Read from January 1st to January 6th 2020

I've had this book for about six months before I could get to have peeks here and there. Almost seven months since I got around to actually read it. I bought it in around June or some shit, and saved it as my birthday present to myself on December 9th- coincidentally, December 9th is, on top of being the day I was born in 1988, a date that has a certain significance in the context of this book, because it has a pretty considerable impact on the course of Hanoi Rocks' history as a band.

Admittedly, since I was only born in 1988, I have to make the disclaimer that I'm merely a late fan of the band. But that doesn't mean that I don't acknowledge and appreciate the incredible contribution that Hanoi Rocks made to the way music is shaped today. Discovering as an adult that Hanoi was a huge influence on one of the first bands I got to appreciate as a child that really got me to love music (I'm talking about Guns N Roses, in case any of you got lost along the way) really helped me get a clearer picture of just how much Hanoi gave to the world, receiving very little in return.

This book paints a thorough and clear picture of what the band was, in itself and in the context of its time, as well as getting inside the heads of each of its components. The group's dynamics and each member's motivations as explained in this invaluable document are testament of a job more than brilliantly done.

I have nothing but the highest praise for the author and all the hard work that was put into giving Hanoi Rocks just a pinch of the justice the world refused them time and again.

I'm honestly so glad this book exists, and feel so privileged that I could read it. It was worth all the wait.

this book was super emotional to read as a mega fan of Hanoi rocks. ive read all I can about the band and am always seeking our new information. i feel privileged to be able to read this book, the photos were amazing, the formatting, everything. i loved reading this as there isn’t much material out there to read about Hanoi so it’s amazing for me to get to read this. ill treasure this book and I plan to reread it sometime.
i wish this book would’ve been dedicated to Razzle, as the book even said, he was the glue that held the band together.
to my all time favourite musician, this is for you. RIP 🤍

I am too young to remember Hanoi Rocks' golden years. After reading this book, I realized how close they came to superstardom. Lots of crazy stories, drugs and most importantly, rock-'n'-roll.

Ari Väntäsellä on näppinsä pelissä tässäkin loistavassa bändihistoriikissa. Jonkin aikaa sitten luin hänen Michael Monroesta kirjoittamansa elämäkerran ja se oli täyttä rautaa lähes koko kirja. Hitusen alkoi puuduttaa loppumetreillä, muuten täydellinen paketti. Tämä Hanoi Rocks yhtyeen tarina on, jos mahdollista, vieläkin parempi. Itse bändin tarinahan on mitä parasta viihdettä traagisine loppuineen. Väntänen kertoo sen hyvin ja jälleen kirja on taitettu aivan upeasti. En voi kuin ihailla kuinka viime vuosina varsinkin suomalaisista bändeistä kertovat kirjat on tehty tyylikkäästi. Tästä saisivat monet ulkomaalaiset kirjoittajat ottaa mallia.

Tämän kirjan luettua alkoi harmittaa vielä enemmän että Hanoin ensimmäiselle versiolle kävi niin kuin kävi. Ihan hyvin koottu historiikki ja nopealukuinen. Kuvia olisin toivonut vielä niistä lyhytikäisistä kokoonpanoista.
