This book is incredible for birdwatchers in NY. No matter which county your in you can identify the birds you see in your backyard, in a local park, or even in cities. I used this book when I went up to the Adirondacks, and I have to say, this made the trip a lot more fun because I got to learn about the local wildlife. This book provides everything you need to know about each bird including it's size, male and female variants, juvenile, nest type, egg shape and color, migration, and diet. And the book is split up by bird color. And finally any any bird/wildlife enthusiast would love to read this book just for fun.
This is a great field guide to birds of NY, only NY. The photos are clear and large, easy to see coloring and other features. Easy to follow guide by color of the bird. See a yellow bird, look for it in the yellow section. The facts listed are the ones you need to know, not a lot of extraneous information. The special notes from the author give you tips to recognizing a bird as well as interesting facts. It's a wonderful read to familiarize yourself with birds in NY state. It shows maps of where the bird can be found in all seasons. I really enjoyed this book. I learned a lot and am looking forward to using the knowledge out in the field.
I don't know much about Birding but if I was going to get started I'd want a book like this. Beautiful full color pictures of each bird, nice descriptions, well organized, and narrowed down to a specific area.
Props to the author for putting in the work to make this!
Really useful guide for birding noobs. Ive looked at a lot of guides, and found this one the easiest thing to consider when trying to identify a bird in the backyard. There’s one for every state.
My favorite quick access bird book. I use it weekly to identify the birds in my neighborhood. I, too, wish I could get my hands on the cd that accompanies this!
