Bed-ridden for most of the past three with excruciating sciatica. Only reading I wanted was short, light and happy. Thought the Flirts series reviewed favorably by friend Nyssa might fit the bill. Five connected, Hallmark-y romances. A bit uneven, but cute and fun. Made me feel better which is just what I needed.

1. The Hot Girl's Friend - 4 stars. Liked Jane’s snark. Brady a good match for her.
2. Wrong Place, Right Guy - 2 stars. Too contrived. Not believable.
3. Not You - 1 star. Never bought the relationship. And it wouldn’t last. Carly not flashy enough to keep the hound Rob interested. He’ll be off chasing another skirt in weeks/months.
4. Desperately Seeking Cupid - 4 stars. Liked that Brianna and Zach were just normal people. The Feng Shui and Spinster Club elements in this story were fun.
5. Never Been Dumped - 4 stars and best of the bunch. Predictable but endearing.

If you're a mushy person at heart (like me), or just need to indulge your sweet-tooth (caramel popcorn), this is a collection for you. For the most part, these stories are light, fun, (unbelievable), and sugary sweet. I think what I liked the most is that they were each written as a stand-alone in a shared universe. Lisa Scott added just enough detail for the reader to make the connections without it affecting the story at hand. I especially loved how it came full circle at the end of the fifth story with references to all of the couples met along the way; it was enjoyable to read!

My reviews are behind the stars:

1. The Hot Girl's Friend - 4 stars
2. Wrong Place, Right Guy - 3 stars
3. Not You - 3 stars
4. Desperately Seeking Cupid - 5 stars
5. Never Been Dumped - 5 stars

Average: 4, bumped to 5 for the connections and the ending!

I found this book on Amazon for free and it was amazing! This is a set of five stories that occur within the same community and eventually they all tie back to each other, it really is a small world. I was looking for something fresh that actually completed and was not part of a series and I loved these short stories! I easily read all five in a day, remember I said they were short, and they were the perfect stories that left me feeling happy. There is no explicit sex scenes but a lot is implied. There were no cuss words that I remember reading. Each story is self contained and any one of them can be read as a stand alone. I will definitely read more of this authors work.

The authors' first story the leading lady was a real estate salesperson and she briefly mentions trying to sale a Victorian home with no characters mentioned for the home. The last story is the owner of the home and he briefly mentions his real estate salesperson getting married. All the stories in-between have an obscure link to the one before and in the end I saw that indeed sometimes it is a small world.

This was such a fun and easy read! The Hot Girl's Best Friend ended up becoming my favorite, although I enjoyed each story. I loved how each girl had a unique voice and story, even if everything was super predictable. It was also fun to figure out how each story connected to the others. I definitely recommend this short story collection as a light read!

Sweet romance short stories connected in an interesting way. I really enjoyed these quick reads. The writing was cohesive and without distracting grammatical errors. The stories and characters were well developed in these short stories, which is not always the case. I enjoyed these and I would recommend this volume to readers looking for short, happy, well written stories. I would read the other volumes but they are not currently available on Kindle Unlimited. Maybe at a later date.

Really wonderful stories

I enjoyed the first one the most. Jane lives her life in the shadow of her gorgeous friend, Miranda. But she doesn't mind.

They decide to go out to a bar and after dancing for awhile Jane finds herself sitting at the bar and strikes up a conversation with the bartender. she likes him instantly. But doesn't think he would be interested in her.

After talking most of the night the bartender tells Jane, that a bar is no place to meet a man and he challenges her to a bet that he could easily find a man for her and she accepts his challenge.

Love Lisa Scott and her Flirts! These are short stories that I read when I need a laugh and a sweet love story with a HEA or at least a HFN.

There is no explicit sex, but Ms. Scott doesn't need it to write a cute, romantic story! "The Hot Girl's Friend" was probably my favorite in this group. It had me laughing out loud and I loved the characters.

I have read all of Lisa Scott's Flirts and enjoyed all of them.

*3+ Stars, some stories were better than others.*

Short and simple stories. Good, but not great. Enjoyable way to spend some time, but I found it too easy to put it down.

I listened to the audio and it was pretty good. I thought the narrator Tamara A. McDaniel handled the stories well.

The stories were cute and very well-rounded! I thought the idea of a book with a bunch of short stories would be fun, but I don’t know if I’d read another one of her short stories collections (if that’s how you say it).

They need way way WAY more steamy!!! And duo point of views, please!!

Quotes I liked (not separated by story):
“Then he smiled, revealing dimples I could take a bath in.”

““Try not to cut yourself with that sharp tongue. I don’t have any band-aids on me.”

“His hand on mine was like butter on a biscuit—only I was the one melting.”

“She set her hands on the table and leaned over, like she was going to pour her cleavage on his plate.”

“I just nodded and was so grateful I had taught myself how to keep from crying by pinching that space between my thumb and forefinger. My thumb cleavage. It would probably be bruised the next day.”

“She ate up her men like they were microwave meals; Brady was a single-serving pizza.”

“…but I was still hardening up my emotions. Kind of like a crab that had molted and needed to grow its new shell.”

““Poor, dateless Carly? Sure. Just let me search the bushes one more time for my dignity.””

“I pressed my hand against his chest. “I’m wondering if that’s a piece of rose quartz in your pocket, or if you’re just happy to see me?” I wasn’t too bad at flirting once I found a worthy subject. And that was always my problem.”

“Her voice was empty and flat, like a glass of soda left out from a party overnight.”

“And as they were drifting off to sleep, he heard himself whisper, “I love you.” He hoped she didn’t hear it. Love wasn’t part of their deal.”

A fun collection of 5 Romance Stories. It's perfect for beach or poolside reading!

The Hot Girl's Friend
This plain Jane feels like love will never find her as long as she's the hot girl's friend, because she just doesn't compare. Can her new bartender friend show her that there are still decent guys who think she is a catch all by herself?

Wrong Place, Right Guy
Real estate agent Kristen is mugged in a parking lot, but ex-con Tony Malone literally jumps off a roof to save her. He steals her heart, but doesn't feel he deserves her. Can she convince him otherwise?

Not You
Responsible and lovelorn Carly has a drunken one night stand on the eve of her mother's third wedding. What could go wrong?

Desperately Seeking Cupid
Brianna has 6 weddings to attend. 6 reminders that love hasn't found her. A chance meeting with Virginia the Feng Shui specialist has her changing her life around to bring love in. Will it work, or will Cupid leave her cold?

Never Been Dumped
Rachel has always been the one to dump the guys. She leaves them sad, sometimes even angry. So she is done. Done with relationships, done with men. But a handsome stranger is determined to break her streak. He promises her a summer fling, then HE will break up with HER! Ridiculous, sure, but at least she won't have to be the one to end it!

This was a fun group of stories. It was perfect for reading poolside. It brought me lots of smiles, and there were some great steamy scenes! I believe what I liked the most was the common thread that connected all of the stories. Super fun!

A delightful combination of easy reads that will get you through a couple of hours of fun and clever stories. I loved all of the men! I am glad that these stories show men that know what they want and understand the women that they are going after. I get a little frustrated with some of the women in these books (and many of this type of genre) as they bring all their issues to every relationship possibility. But thank goodness the men that have caught their eye are willing to get through those issues and find a happily every after. These stories were funny, some more so than others. Each story was a stand alone, but they do intertwine with some of the same characters and since the stories are all so short, it is easy to read them all and get the connections between characters. I would definitely recommend this author and look forward to reading more of her books.

DNF

The first story, being as short as it was, was fairly irritating. The MCs spent more time in their heads being negative than with each other. I didn't even realize when the first story ended and the second story began. About half way through the second story, I stopped as it followed the same formula as the first story.

There is very low heat, lots of snark and tons of miscommunication. I know that many other readers love this so if this is you, definitely read the stories. The author is definitely talented and has a smooth flowing writing style but too much head banter kills the story for me!

This is my first book by Lisa Scott. 5 stars straight since I loved all the 5 individual short stories as well as how the 5 characters knew each other in one way or the other, this was indeed a very interesting way to relate.

Out of 5 stories... Not you was the one I enjoyed the most because the situation was totally messed up in which the couple was caught in. The characters of Rob and Clary's mom were totally hilarious and I really enjoyed their conversations.

Neat, clean and light short stories. Totally enjoyed. Thumbs up.

Lovely Little Reads

I don’t usually post reviews, but this little collection is just great. I especially enjoyed the continuing references to the earlier stories in the collection. While they each include some common romance tropes, each story is unique, and they are all a lot of fun. I also found that I quite like a quick read, all tied up, and then another, somewhat connected story immediately following. This was my first read by this author, but it won’t be my last.

Light enjoyable read

I loved how the stories were all connected and how they were all easy reads. Ms. Scott apparently has a thing for 3 in relationships as soooo many different characters were on their 3rd marriage or two had 3 canceled engagements, so that was a tad annoying. But for light, easy, & quick read they were great.

Loved all five

McGintey's pub in Springfield, MA is the setting for book one & the end of book five. In between you will meet people who are somehow either friends, relations, or otherwise involved with the pub. There are also a few weddings involved too. This is a fun series and I am going to find more to read.

I’m not usually one for romance on the best of days. I have even been dubbed ‘the love-hater’. This collection actually had me wanting to read more. I loved trying to pace it all out in my head, figuring out how each character intertwined with the others and how all the stories meld together and in what time frame. Brilliantly done!

Loved it

So I first found one of the stories as a stand alone and liked it so I thought I would try one of the author’s anthologies. It was awesome. I love fun and quirky and this had it in spades. My favorite part is how she connected all the stories through some type of overlap. It’s a fun quick read that you can enjoy in an evening.
