Osiris' Missing Part

Rate this book
Blush sensuality level: This is a sensual romance (may have explicit love scenes, but not erotic in frequency or type). According to the legend, the evil Egyptian god of storm, Seth, killed his brother Osiris, chopped him into fourteen pieces and flung them all over Egypt. Isis, goddess of family, reassembled thirteen of his body parts. Since she couldn't find his supernatural male member, where his godly power was stored, she reattached a human one. Isis has always loved Osiris, the charming god of labor. While dreaming of marriage, family and a son, she helps him fight Seth. Together they struggle to survive iniquities and perils. His trip to the Afterlife has changed Osiris. He regrets his past womanizing. Guided by oracles she utters when they make love, they search lands and seas for his missing organ so he can recover his godly attributes. Osiris has fallen in love with Isis but the sins of his past and their unexpected consequences threaten to separate them more painfully than Seth's mayhem and curses.

Risk crafts an exotic adventure filled with supernatural happenings, greed, betrayal, and love with "Osiris' Missing Part." Based on an ancient Egyptian legend, the god Seth tricks Osiris into a box and kills him, cutting his body into fourteen parts and spreading them all over Egypt. Will the goddess Isis be successful in resurrecting the only man she truly loves?

The story opens with Isis bringing Osiris back to life, only she's missing the piece where his godly power is stored - his manhood. Osiris is grateful for Isis' efforts, but knows he has to go on a quest to seek out his manhood. Isis agrees to go with him after learning the conditions set upon them by Seth to reattach Osiris' manhood. The condition is insulting to her however - a virgin must reattach Osiris' part with her personal sap.

Osiris and Isis enlist the help of their temple guardians, Sophia, Nica, Shafika, Hosmath, and Toutmass. Seth, however, is not far behind. Once he discovers Osiris and Isis are looking for Osiris' missing member, he finds ways to sabotage their mission.

Along the journey Osiris discovers what a true gem Isis is. She's loyal, faithful, honest, and caring. Isis learns that there are different angles to approach a problem without being so uptight and demanding. Both Isis and Osiris take an inner journey of the soul, as well as a physical adventure. Can love truly find its way into Osiris' heart and can Isis forgive him the sins of the past?

Risk's writing is a wonderful "what-if" of the legend. She blends just the right amount of reality and myth offering the reader a unique and creative story. Her descriptions are "spot on," allowing the reader to visualize ancient Egypt with ease.

The most rewarding aspect of the story was the characterization of Isis and Osiris. While gods and capable of supernatural achievements, both have very human hearts. Osiris was a bit of a womanizer in his first life, but Isis' devotion shows him he can love just one woman. Isis has a tendency not to see "the grey/middle ground" in people and situations and Osiris demonstrates to her that its all right to give your trust to others who have earned it.

The novel is sophisticated for romance readers with love scenes that are graphic, sensual, and tasteful. Risk's imagination shines against the lush backdrop of ancient Egypt. "Osiris' Missing Part" is a wonderful escape to another time and place that proves love does conquer all.

Osiris’ Missing Part is all about Gods and Goddesses. Pretty good plot.

Well this was a pretty good story. It was filled with betrayal, love, and forgiveness. I thought that the story was pretty good and I love the imagination that he took to come up with this story. I thought it was a little long. Some parts seemed to run on and give too much information that wasn’t really needed.

With gods and goddesses since they love forever and it’s pretty hard to kill them. I think it would be hard to be with one person all their life. You really never see that. In this story though Osiris learns his lesson when he died. He saw the error in his life that he had done. Sleeping with whoever he wanted and not having any consequences. When he comes back he realizes that Isis is the only one for him.

You go through the story which is manly Osiris trying to find his missing organ that holds all the power in it. You see the love that Osiris and Isis have for each other but anything could happen at any moment to take it away. Will their love be enough to stand all the women he slept with? I don’t know if I could forgive something like that, but I’m not going to live forever.

You have brothers fighting over the same woman. You have different gods and goddesses turning against each other because of jealousy. It was a pretty good exciting book with a lot of adventure. Seth trying the whole time to outsmart his brother. In the end there is a lot of forgiveness from everyone. Had a pretty good happy ending for everyone. You know that everything won’t be peaceful for long.

So all in all the story was good with great characters. Just because they are immortal doesn’t mean they don’t go through the same things that mortals do. They just have longer to see the error of their ways and fix them.

I recommend this book to anyone who loves to read about gods and goddesses and loves a happy ending.

Who’d ever think a man’s search for his missing penis could be so entertaining? (Though Osiris certainly didn’t see it that way!)

This is a romance and a very sensual one at that but it’s also a hilarious story as well, as Osiris struggles to secure his missing Ozi, convince Isis he’s no longer a god with a roving eye or other body parts, and get his revenge on Seth. Like the Greek gods, the deities of Egypt are more human than the humans who worship them…and they’re loving, petty, brave, jealous, childish, and loyal by turns. The narrative alternates between the poetry of myth and slightly bawdy language, and there are neat turns of phrase, and plenty of laughs as they face their problems, and aim for a happy ending.

Mona Risk knows her Egyptian mythology and it certainly shows. I enjoyed her descriptions of Osiris’ struggles to regain Isis’ affection while fighting off his former lovers’ advances as the womanizer now becomes the prey when he decides he loves Isis and none other. She’s got good characterization going, making even Seth noble in a way, in spite of being a fratricide.

I read this in one sitting because I didn’t want to put down the book and then have to resume the story. Osiris’ Missing Part was engrossing enough to hold me into the wee hours of the morning. Hey, Mona, is there another Egyptian myth you’d like to take a shot at? I’d certainly be interested in reading it.

A NIGHT OWL REVIEWS BOOK REVIEW

Mona Risk takes on a new genre and takes us on an Egyptian adventure. She delves deep into the subject of infidelity, love, forgiveness and commitment.

In Osiris' Missing Part you have a brother’s betrayal. Osiris is an Egyptian god. He is tricked by his brother Seth into trying out a sarcophagus. In the end Osiris gets trapped and cut into 14 parts. His body is hidden around Egypt. Isis loves Osiris and she goes on a quest to find his missing parts and puts him back together. She finds all but one of his parts. She uses a human part to make him whole and he does come back. But he’s not happy with his one human part and so they continue searching. Without this last part he just isn’t whole and he’s missing his god powers, or so he thinks. As they continue the search more transpires and more twists are unveiled.

Mona Risk draws upon Egypt and the mythology of the Egyptian gods. Join her for the adventure as she takes you on a trip into the past and into an enjoyable realm. I enjoyed this tale and look forward to more Mona Risk titles. The only thing that rubbed me wrong was Osiris’s infidelity, but gods will be gods. It did add some reality to the setting.

Mona Risk does a wonderful job of balancing the god powers in these characters and the real human heart. It would have been very easy to make Orsis, Isis and Seth bigger than life but it would have made the story very unapproachable. The balance was wonderful along with the way the story plays out. There are some twists and turns that I just was not expecting to happen and this kept me engaged and wanting more.
