This is the final part of the Abhyudayam which covers the story of what happens after kidnapping of Sita by Ravana till the end of the war. I am not sure whether there's another part in which the rest of the story is covered or is it only this much.
Though have read many literary works based on Mahabharata, first time reading a novel based on Rama where his actions are explained by logic rather than magic. Still Devas etc appear in this novel though not only as some powerful king who is very corrupt. Though the novel tried to cover all the key incidents in the logic way, some of them are not really fully explainable by logic.
Even with some weaknesses, it is still an enjoyable and interesting read and recommend for anyone who is open to view the Ithihasas and their lead characters as human beings.
This novel was my first ever novel I had read. The way Narendra Kohli narrated it by giving reason and logic which gets deeply imprinted in the readers mind. According to him Vishwamitra was the far seeing person who created Ram guiding him by telling stories killing the exploiters of the society. The novel in two parts binds the readers and surely it is heavenly nectar for the Ramakatha lovers.
In order for me to review this book. I have to think deeply about whats actually is the moral of this book.
Yes its based on "Shree Ramayan" but the way it has been written is totally different that any other holy book. In any holy book we believe the main character as God himself and so its easy for us to believe in all the miracles performed by him/her.( for me its hard to believe that those miracles would have happened )
I think The question this book answers is How can a man achieve a God like status through his Morals and divinity(every man has it) when going through any kind of obstacle.
I was in the subway when I finished this book and that moment , an emotion came rushing and I had to press this book again my temple. This book will tell you how to apply the same morals and beliefs in 21st century , while dealing with any obstacle.
This work describe Ram's character as human and not as god. This in turn helps us identify the values and goals that are associated by "Maryada Purushottam". The story telling is quite captivating and the vivid description of Ram's journey from Ayodhya to Lanka is quite amazing. Another part that is covered quite well in this work is the love and respect between Ram and Sita. It does present an ideal picture of a husband and wife. For whatever reason, this was often left out in the stories that I grew up listening to. I was quite unhappy with the abrupt ending at the end of Ram-Ravan war. Definitely wanted to read and learn more about his return to Ayodhya and the treatment of Sita.
Abhyudaya is a riveting read. Naredra Kohli's fiction based on The Ramayana treats Ram as a mortal and describes his endeavours which could have elevated him to the status of a god. It strangely mimics many of the problems that we still face today in India and in the world. So his statement on the back cover where he expresses his and the present's need for another Ram rings true.
Ramayana -told from the view point of mortals. The book discusses in detail the answer to some of the significant socio-political questions faced by India in the modern age. This function has been subtly carried out in combination with adept story telling. One book I will recommend and gift.
Abhyday Part 2 by Narendra Kohli is a compilation of two Books first, Yudh-1 and second Yudh-2. I have written separate commentary about each book in the review. Ramkatha depicts Ram as human. The younger generation is able to connect with this type of story writing. I have written separate review of all books on goodreads. All his books are written to explain the reason why a certain decision was taken by Ram from his birth to vanvas then war with Ravana. It is a classic which should be translated in all Indian and foreign languges so that reader are aware of the rich Indian culture and heritage. It is a must read for all.
Abhyudaya makes you emotional in that you discover Ram as an ordinary man, and so the respect, the admiration that long-cherished character gets brimming like never before. Seeing Ram as some religious figure is one. Still, when we truly realise that an ordinary human became such a powerful symbol just by sheer commitment to Dharma, we bow our heads subconsciously, naturally. Abhuydaya is a must-read for anyone interested in knowing Dharma, Santana's concept, and Bharat's idea. I feel it is the closest interpretation of Valmiki's Ramayana. The book has the power to transform an individual inside.
