An excellent introduction to Anne Frank and her family history that can be helpful both to students gaining first exposure to Anne and to students ready to read Anne's diary.

The diary doesn't provide a lot of background information about the Frank's flight from Germany to Holland, their family dynamics (beyond Anne's perspective), the risks those helping them took, or the outcomes after the war. This account sketches in those missing details, providing single sitting accessibility to the context of Anne's writing.

I read this book on my Kindle, and this is my review:

Brenda Lewis wrote this accessible chapter book about Anne Frank’s life. The book begins by giving some background on what Anne’s life as a Jewish person was like before World War II and then describes how Anne’s life changed when Nazi Germany invaded the rest of Europe. Although Anne’s living conditions under Nazi rule were terrifying and tragic, Brenda Lewis wrote this book in a way that celebrates the courage, creativity and hope of the characters despite the fact that they lived in hiding from the SS Nazi police. A child could read this book and gain insight and into Anne’s compelling life story without feeling overwhelmed by graphic details of pain and suffering. The end of the book honors Anne’s legacy by empowering the reader to remember this tragedy so as not to repeat it.

This book is part of a series of books called, “DK Readers.” The books are leveled 1-5. Level 1 is the easiest, and level 5 is the hardest. The, Story if Anne Frank, is leveled a 3. It is written for children in third grade and up. The book has seven chapters, a glossary and an index. It is a manageable way for young readers to become familiar with the format of informational texts and with an inspirational true story of a child, who persevered under devastating oppression.

The biography, "The Story of Anne Frank", is a well written book for children. The book focuses on the story and life of Anne Frank and her family. The book discusses the holocaust and how the Frank family hid in their friend's attic to avoid being sent away to concentration camps.

This book used actual, real life photographs as some of their illustrations. They also drew some photos to add effect and detail for the reader. I liked how they showed actual photographs because it really makes it hit home like, "Wow this really happened." and I think it is important for children to know the real history of things that have happened. The book uses a lot of borders to keep it neat and easy to read, which I appreciated.

This book was very well written and I would recommend it to anyone wanting an easy read on the Frank family.

Honest without being scary or too upsetting. Perfect for a sensitive child who gets triggered. It's hard to teach painful subjects. This bio is great for talking about WW2 and Holocaust.

-about an hour and 30 minutes(9/30)

-7 word summary:

-Discussion Questions:
1.Since the policy of Nazism started, Anne spent a difficut life, but she endured with her wish. So if you are in difficulty, how do you feel and how do you get over it?
Answer:
I think that examining myself and changing it is important for getting over. If we can find out our wrong points and weakness, we can fix it and change but..I also think it's difficut matter.

2.During her hidding, she had lived same people too long. There she felt many things and experience and grow. So in your case, when do you change your mind and experience and grow? Where? Who?
Answer:
When I was elementary school student, there was not the relationship of higher and lower rank of age because I lived in small rural area so there were a small number of students. However I joined club activity and experienced the relationship after entering my junior high school. There I could study an honorific and more. So it is good experience for me to live in junior high school.

-Note-
Anne Frank was young Jewish girl, 15 years old.
World War 2
The diary she wrote is popular still now.

If you're looking for a good introduction to Anne and/or what it meant to be Jewish during World War II, this is a good one. Handled tactfully, it provides a good historical outline of her life and the times she lived in without going into any of it's horrors. I'd recommend this.

Reading Level: 2nd - 4th grades

Cleanliness: It mentions that Anne wrote in her diary of the boys she liked, that she dreamed of falling in love some day. Uses the word "stupid." It only says that the concentration camps were a place where people were put to death - no details/specifics provided.

**Like my reviews? I also have hundreds of detailed reports that I offer too. These reports give a complete break-down of everything in the book, so you'll know just how clean it is or isn't. I also have Clean Guides (downloadable PDFs) which enable you to clean up your book before reading it! Visit my website: The Book Radar.

My family is currently living in Germany and planning a trip to Amsterdam and having read about Anne Frank when I was young I'm looking forward to visiting the Anne Frank house. I knew my daughter would not be interested without knowing the story but at seven she is too young for the full diary. I found this book and bought it for her. She was fascinated, asked a million questions (still asking them) and is looking forward to coming with me to the house.
I found it to be very age appropriate in providing enough history to explain why the Frank family was in hiding and enough about Anne to make a child care about her. It's a great way to introduce some history at a young age.

I really enjoyed this book, I think it did a really good job at outlining the story of Anne Frank in a simplistic way for kids, but also keeping it interesting enough to hold your attention. I like that the font os large, which makes it easy to read, and I liked how the author uses drawings for the main pictures, but intermingles them with actual photos of Anne's things and the annex her family lived in.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in learning about the life of Anne Frank, and this is a good vehicle to be able to explain the events of the Holocaust to young kids.

This version of Anne Frank is great to introduce in an elementary classroom. Everything is simple to read and understand. There are also many photos and diagrams that go along and add to the text. This book also displays the reading level so that teacher know what group of students should be able to read and comprehend the book.

This book is also very good to exposed student to expository texts. It is a informative book, but there are a lot of interesting facts inside.

I fully enjoyed this book!!

This book specifically states that it is meant for 3rd grade, while I believe it can be meant for second grade or older. It is a biography about the life of Anne Frank, who was a victim of the Holocaust. This would be a great book for children to read during history or social studies during the time of the holocaust. It is meant for older students because of the complexity of the sentence structures.

I shared this book with my fifth grade students. They really enjoyed it because we've read other books about her. This book had great photographs of the actual diary, the building where she hid, and her younger years.
