Tyora M. Moody’s When Rain Falls is great combination of Christian Fiction and Mystery. Two of my favorite genres combined into one well written, compelling story.
The story starts in 1981 New York, where we first meet Candace. She experienced a life altering event that makes her wonder why God would allow such things to happen to her. When we next meet Candace Johnson she is a widowed parent of two teenagers and managing her own business in Charlotte North Carolina. Candace’s friend Pamela has information for Candace but she never finds out what the information is before tragedy strikes the Johnson family again.
Darnell Jackson is a recently relocated detective from Los Angeles, California to Charlotte, North Carolina. He is the new partner to Candace’s husband’s old partner. He is not well received by the other detectives. So he tends to do things (investigations) his own way.
Candace questions God when she is faced with another tragedy. She does not sit around and wait for the police to do their investigations. She investigates on her own.
There are many twist and turns in this story and characters are well written. It is compelling from the beginning to the end. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The story was so well written that it seemed as if I was right there with Candace trying to solve the mystery. If you enjoy mysteries then you will truly enjoy When Rain Falls. Tyora M. Moody is a great storyteller. I eagerly wait for her next book release.

When Rain Falls draws you in with the prologue, so bold, fierce and suspenseful bit to chew. You are left wondering who is the 12 year old girl and why she's in the cop car crying out to her Mama.

Candace Johnson is a widow. Detective Frank Johnson was her protector and hero even when she still feared her childhood bogeyman. The man on the chase of a sudden murder and may be connected to her husband's two-year ago death, Detective Darnell Jackson divorced, dog owner, and loves his job but hates the stress of the job itself. Detective Steven Brunson, former partner of Frank Johnson, hardly works on the case with Det. Jackson. He's a hardball that seems like a know-it-all.

The story denotes that the recent murder of a prominent defense lawyer, Pamela Coleman, (daughter of Judge Bill Coleman--well-known judge with prestige in the community) is a crime of passion. Still waiting to see how the loose ends tie together and connect the dots. I have some primary suspects on my list aside from what is justified in the novel. I still love to see how this crime of passion plays out also the prologue.

Dream moment in the book on page 204, where it discussed that Candace accepted Christ at an early age of life but her faith was shaky at times yet she retained and remained at the very foundation of her salvation. We are saved by faith through the grace of God, and we all tumble and stumble in our walk as believers based on the hardships, grief, and other distractions that come in our way to get us off-course but we do not have to stay there!

Tyora Moody is a blessed talent who spurred a Christian Romance Suspense novel and now has a devoted fan to read/review the Victory Gospel Series. Her writing style is superb, splendid, and takes the reader on a spectacular journey to see what is unleashed.

Headline: There's always a Rainbow after the storm, if you believe.

Pamela Coleman and Candace Johnson have been friends since they were kids in school. Pamela was engaged a few times but never married. Candace on the other hand was married to Officer Frank Coleman for seventeen years, before he was murdered. The story opens twenty-seven years earlier with Candace as a little girl after the death of her mother. Can a person remain emotionally stable after losing two very close people in their life?

Pamela called her friend to talk, but then changed her mind. What was so urgent, but then became so obsolete? Unfortunately the next time we meet up with Pamela she is found murdered and her death leaves Candace with more questions than answers.

Darnell Jackson, is the detective assigned to work the Coleman case. He quickly finds out that this case has more twist and dead ends than he expected. Once Det. Jackson meet Candace he's mesmerized by her beauty and his need to solve this case is magnified.

Moody's gift for characterization allows the reader to become one with the story. She handles difficult subject matter like grief and revenge in a way that shows her strengths. Readers looking for encouragement and hope will find it between the pages of "When Rain Falls".

When It Rains It Pours

Tyora Moody’s “When Rain Falls” is about the life of Mrs. Candace Johnson as she endures sorrow, pain and death. Candace was a motherless child. After marrying the man of her dreams and having two children, her husband was murdered. Then Candace's best friend, Pamela, was found murdered. “Why does God keep taking away people I love?” Rachel, Candace daughter cries out. Readers will have to read the book to find out why and the many plots and twists this novel takes.

With “When Rain Falls,” I walked away satisfied as a reader and a reviewer that this was a great “whodunnit” novel. I rated this book five stars because it was an excellent read. You will encounter: death, crime, violence, love, betrayal, spirituality, adultery, and the trauma of dreams.

The setting was in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 2008. My favorite character was Candace Johnson for being a resilient strong woman; a widow raising two teenagers who has faced death more than
her fair share.

The writer's style was excellent. This was a page turner once you got involved. It started off a little dry. Everything was realistically set and believable. All I can say is remember the clues to see what happens next. The character development of each character was well thought out and placed exactly where they needed to be placed in this novel. The flow and the suspense were built in a crescendo and unbelievable good.

Readers witness a police station, crime scenes and a mega-church for the services. The teen-angers are rambunctious teenagers who do silly things such as playing basketball, video games with raging
hormones.

“When Rain Falls” would be a great book for book clubs or mystery book lovers to tear apart or if you love a great mystery on a cold winter's night. Enjoy this novel and throw the answers to the wind.

Debut author Tyora Moody strikes a positive one two three punch with When Rain Falls. Tyora is a great storyteller. Her characters were easy to 'see'. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know each of them.

Murder, Mayhem, Grace and Mercy! All marvelously interwoven in When Rain Falls by Tyora Moody. Widow Candace Johnson is one bitter woman, much like many women today who have experienced deep hurt over the loss of a loved one. Candace can be any person you encounter on a daily basis. She is no stranger to grief and pain. Candace has some major issues with God. She can't understand why she keeps losing her loved ones. She fails to see what God is doing and why He is doing it to her.

Detective Darnell Jackson has his share of troubles, especially on the job. He wants Candace to tell him about some events that occurred before the murder of the judge's daughter. He didn't plan on falling for Candace. Should he say something? Will he let Candace know how he feels? What, if any, skeletons is he hiding? Who is going around murdering people?

Will Candace stop being angry and bitter toward God? Will she ever be able to move forward into her future when her past has been so devastating? I asked all of these questions and more as I became entranced with the unfolding of this story.

When Rain Falls gives us an equal balance of good Christian fiction and a great mystery. I look forward to reading more of Author, Tyora Moody's work.

Tyora Moody breaks into Christian Fiction with her first debut novel “When Rain Falls”. An ideal book and must read for those who love suspense with twist and turns through out the chapters. A “who” done it book for sure. I love how Tyora set up each chapter between the two major characters which allows the reader to be drawn into the story. Great job, Tyora. A highly recommended novel to add to your library of well- written books.

The title refers to the life of one Candace Johnson and she’s in the midst of a personal torrent of perpetual heartache. I won’t give away those issues, read the back cover copy for a preview, but needless to say, she’s an emotional wreck. Enter Detective Darnell Jackson of the Charlotte Police Department. His main agenda is to solve the case presented before him, but simultaneously, he’s got this other agenda that slowly evolves and the target of it is one Ms. Johnson. Fortunately for him, despite common sense to the contrary, she’s feeling his vibe as well. You’ll understand that statement once you read the book.

I don’t fancy myself a reader of romantic suspense/mystery. I’m more of a straight-laced police procedural/thriller kind of guy, but Ms. Moody kept both facets of the genre building toward the climax and kept this reader turning the pages. It takes its time to get where it’s going focusing on the world of relationships in the lives of Candace and Darnell, but cranks up the pace where it needs to at the end. For the sake of the genre requirements, Darnell, and he thought as much too, may have tipped his informational hand a bit with Candace that might be over the line in a real life investigation, but like Bobby Caldwell sang back in the day, ‘What You Won’t Do For Love’.

A plethora of tangled relationships drives the engine of When Rain Falls and it’s up to Candace and Darnell and a few other chosen folks to decipher truths from lies. A couple minor craft quibbles, Tyora: 1) Trust the simple believability of contracted words; it makes the dialogue sound more realistic. But too, we’re all different and our myriad relationship contacts in life affect our word choices. Like I said, minor quibble, but worth rethinking for the future and 2) You didn’t need to utilize a third POV when it was used so infrequently as it didn’t add a lot to the story. I understand why you did it, but trust your two principal POV characters to carry the book; they got this. And I’m sure they got this in the next book in the Victory Gospel Series too and #Two.

A good, and sad to say, rare entry in the Christian Black Crime Fiction genre. Come on, readers and publishers, support this and other bold novelists broadening the African-American Christian Market reading niches/experiences. Solid debut.

Candace Johnson was only twelve when she lost her mother. After seventeen years of marriage, she lost her husband. Now her best friend, Pamela Coleman, has been killed. Losing so many loved ones has caused Candace to put her faith in God on the back burner. Will she ever be able to connect with the heavenly Father again?

I liked Candace. She was a strong, independent woman and a good mother to two teens – Rachel (16) and Daniel (14). I also liked Beulah and Mrs. Roberts, and some of the conversations Candace had with them.
Candace stopped attending church regularly after her husband’s death, but even though she was struggling with her faith, she did not forget where her help came from. Candace knew how to call on God in times of need.

I understood Candace's pain, but I did not agree with her thinking God took her loved ones. Her mother, her husband, her best friend, each of them died in a way that I don’t believe God would have anything to do with. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11) Reading this story, I was reminded of how sometimes Christians don’t take the time to thank God when good things happen, but they are quick to blame Him, or say He’s the One responsible, when something goes wrong. It’s as if they forget there’s also an Enemy. The thief (Satan) comes only to steal, and kill, and destroy (John 10:10).

This novel has sixty chapters, but most are not lengthy. The story grabbed me from the beginning. It was written in a way that kept me wondering and guessing who the killer was and, although there was a bit of repetitiveness, it was not predictable. While investigators looked into Pamela’s murder, Candace did some investigating of her own. She was a woman fighting for justice. She had questions and with every turn of the page I was anticipating the answers. I started reading in the evening hours. When I was ready to go to bed, I had to read one more chapter, and then one more…. It was difficult to put this book down.

Survivor’s guilt, legalism, adultery, flawed Christians, domestic violence, forgiveness - Tyora Moody deals with these issues and a bit more. She has penned an entertaining, suspenseful debut!!

What a nail biting read! You won't be able to put this fast paced book down. Candace Johnson is just starting to get over the pain of her husband Frank's murder. Now another of her loved ones has been murdered...her best friend Pamela Coleman. How could this be happening again. She met Pamela when she moved to North Carolina as a 12 year old, after her own Mother had been murdered.
She has two children Rachael 16, and Daniel 14, along with some very Dear friends. Loved the characters of Beulah, Tangie, and Mrs Roberts. Candace's Children were extremely close to Pamela, they thought of her as their Aunt, and now the hands of death have touched them again.
Detective Darnell Jackson has transferred from LA back to NC, and near his Aunt Beulah. He works in Homicide and is now working on Pamela's murder. He was raised by his Aunt after his Mother died, and now recovering from his divorce is trying to move on.
Pamela, Candace and Darnell, are all members of the mega church Victory Gospel. Candace and Darnell meet there at the funeral. Love how God is working in all of their lives. He does answer their prayers, sometimes not the way they want.
Tyora weaves a great mystery, and you will have to keep keep reading so you can find out the answers. I was surprised by the ending in my mind accusing the wrong people.

I received this book from the Author, and was not required to give a positive review.

Candace Johnson, has lost a lot, her momma, her husband and now two years after her husband, here comes another devastating loss.
Her best friend Pamela was found murdered. Candace is not sure she can handle this. Her bitterness is overtaking her. She feels
like God is taking away the people that she loves.
This murder is high-profile, with Pamela a defense lawyer, she wasn't always the prosecutor or the police's favorite person. Her father
being a judge also puts pressure on the police to solve this crime. Detective Darnell Jackson finds that everyone seems to know
each other in this investigation. His partner is aquainted with the murder victim, and her best friend Candace, was the wife of Brunson's
former partner, and his own aunt Beulah, knew them all. Would they be able to find the truth about who wanted Pamela dead?

This book was a great debut novel for Tyora Moody. She gives us a great story full of suspense, with unexpected twists and turns. I truly
enjoyed this story and so will you if your a suspense fan. Dealing with many hard issues in this story, Tyora Moody, does
so with excellence and with finesse. Definitely a book that I recommend! 4 stars!

How this author can present such a wonderful read with murder of the husband and best friend...finding out that there maybe a link to it all? The characters were are so well developed and so captivating that you could even relate to them. I was extremely taken with how this author was able to present 'Christian Principals.' Be ready for a wonderful well written read that you will not forget long after the read that takes you into the police station, crime scenes, beauty salon, the mega church and teenagers just being teens with raging hormones. Be ready for a mystery, suspense and thriller read that will have you guessing till the end. Oh, what a end it is!

Debut author Tyora Moody hit the ground running with When Rain Falls, the first book in the Victory Gospel Series, and left me wanting more. She created endearing characters- it was easy to care about what happened to them as the story progressed. We can all relate to Candace Johnson's feeling that God keeps taking the ones she loves, and to her desire to not stop until the mystery is solved.

Detective Darnell Jackson wasn't perfect, which made me like him all the more. He was realistically portrayed- he had his own issues to deal with (a recent divorce, a partner who might or might not trust him) as he sought to solve the mystery of who murdered Candace's best friend.

I enjoyed the fact that I didn't guess whodunnit until the secret was revealed- nothing kills a mystery for me quicker than my being able to guess who the perpetrator is within two chapters. The action and the main characters' personal lives were mixed well- there wasn't so much time spent on their families or on the possibility of romance that we lost track of the mystery.

If you like a good mystery or just Christian fiction in general, you will love When Rain Falls. Can't wait for Book II!

Candace has never had a relationship with her mother. She was a little girl hiding I'm the closet when her mother was murdered. Shortly after she got grown and married and had children, her police officer husband Frank was killed. After Frank was murdered, her best friend Pamela is murdered. She can't understand why everyone she loves is being taken from her.

As Detective Darnell Johnson begins to investigate the murder of her friend Pamela, he comes across all kinds of interesting facts. In the end, He and Candace become close and it is Candace who ultimately finds out who the murderer of her husband and best friend is.

She can't believe that after all the time Hillary has been coming to her hair salon, she would do something this had me accusing some of everybody. I really thought Candace's husband Frank's partner was going to have something to do with Frank's murder but I was wrong on that angle. All in all, I enjoyed this book. Read: June 2014

Tyora did a great job writing her debut novel. The main character, Candace Johnson could be heard and felt throughout the story. Anyone who may be angry with God and has lost faith really needs to read this book. Have you ever felt like giving up? Do you feel that God’s love and grace isn’t sufficient enough? When Rain Falls is the book for you. When Rain Falls isn't preachy but inspirational. It's not sex-filled but romantic. It's filled with lots of emotion and suspense. Even through tragedy, God’s love still prevails. Does Candace finally open up her heart and let God in or does she allow the bitterness to control her life? Will she uncover more than she bargains for while she searches for answers to who murdered her best friend? You will have to read When Rain Falls to find out. Bring on Book 2, the 1st one gets four thumbs up!!

When Rain Falls is one of the best novels I've read this year. Its a page turner that will keep you on the edge of your seat!

Moody does an excellent job of tying in the murders of the main character's husband and best friend. Character development is phenomenal. The characters are real and I could relate to them. Christian principles are present but not forced on you. Moody does a brilliant job of bringing readers through this suspense-filled journey!

Candace Johnson has lost a mother and husband to murder, and now her best friend, Pamela Coleman, the only daughter of Judge and Desiree Coleman. And the Police Department still hasn’t found her husband’s killer from two years’ earlier. She’s determined to ‘help’ the police department find Pamela’s killer, placing herself and others in danger. How much more can she handle? She wondered if God is punishing her. Her faith is slowly dwindling down to almost nothing.

Detective Darnell Jackson, aka Mr. Hollywood, is new to the precinct, hailing from Los Angelus, though he actually grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Captain and the Judge are pressing him for evidence and closure, demanding an arrest yesterday! The detective’s aunt Beulah isn’t a help either, when she keeps trying to be a matchmaker between him and Candace, unknowingly sabotaging his work on the case.

Tyora Moody in her book, When Rain Falls, has written a great mystery with plenty of twists, which blind-sided me from guessing the murderer up to the end. Circumstantial evidence abounds! Candace’s grief over her deep personal losses is palpable, as well as her teen children’s behaviors in the light of their losses. Her daughter Rachel’s acting out was so realistic, though not predictable.

Detective Jackson’s work and personal relationship with Candace is well-developed and definitely interesting! His aunt Beulah found a special spot in my heart–so uplifting, sneakily conniving in her nephew’s romance, deep friend of Candace, and holding a deep trust in the Lord.

Tyora’s style and depth are extraordinary. They bring a personal touch to the story. She used the lightness of Beulah’s personality to help defuse the horrendous pain involved. Though it’s a slow read, it’s certainly not boring. It gives you the time to digest the deep losses and frustrations of the characters. The message of trust, faith and forgiveness is interwoven throughout. It’s a bit preachy in the beginning, but I would love to read another book by Tyora any day!

My Summary: When Candice Jackson husband is murdered, its the most devastating life experience she endures. Dealing with being a widower and continuing her business as a beauty salon owner while meeting the challenges of raising two high school children with a daughter that is going through 'growing pains' has been something she did not expect to be doing alone.
One night Candice is awaken by a phone call from her BFF, Pamela. Pamela is very relucntant with the conversation. When Candice ask her is everything okay, she states that 'she is good'. Knowing that she will see Pamela tomorrow at the beauty shop she says Good-Bye and return to sleep.
At the beauty salon, Pamela has not arrived yet. Candice is servicing a client when she directs Candice to look up at the television. On the screen they are reporting a murder and the victim is PAMELA! Candice is shocked!! Just four short years ago her husband is murdered, now her BFF is also murdered. Candice is beyond devastation. When it Rains, it pours!!!
Candice does not have faith in the police department. They never found her husband's killer and decides she will use the skills learned from her husband to seek Pamela's killer. She meets Darnell, her husband ex-partner, partner. . (hope i got that right) She discusses clues and her theories with him. He doesn't want Candice involved but nothing is going to deter Candice.
My Review: Straight to the Point, Go get the novel, Today!! It is a remarkable suspense read. Will keep you turning the pages. I enjoyed the characters, the flow of the writing kept the story line interesting. I did not encounter a slow moment while reading. Author Tyora Moody, places clues in the story that make the story appear predictable but don't think you solved the murder before the ending. This is a job for Perry Mason. five stars
I can't wait for the next book in this series. Place this author on your author list, the name: Tyora Moody, A Christian fiction writer to be reckon with.

Title: WHEN RAIN FALLS
Author: Tyora Moody
Publisher: Kensington
March 2012
ISBN: 978-1601628220
Genre: Romantic suspense/Urban Christian

Candace Johnson is the widow of a police officer, and she still keeps in contact with her husband’s former partner. She has two tween children, and is owner of a beauty salon. Her best friend, Pamela Coleman, called her late one night and said she had something to tell her, but she was tired, and they decided to put it off until the morning when Pamela had a beauty appointment. But Pamela never showed up for her appointment. Candy hears on the news that Pamela has been murdered.

Dectective Darnell Jackson is the investigating officer and his captain is coming down hard on him because Pamela is the daughter of a high-profile judge. The police have no leads, but knowing Candy is her best friend, they show up asking questions. The murder appears to have been a crime of passion, and to Candy’s knowledge, Pamela’s only ‘boyfriend’ is a ‘happily-married man.’

The leads die out, but Candy can’t let her friend’s death go. Her questioning leads her straight to the killer—and now the murderer has Candy on her hit list as well. Now Candy has to trust God with her own life.

WHEN RAIN is Ms. Moody’s debut novel, and the first book in the Victory Gospel series. Candy is a very realistic heroine, still hurting after the death of her husband two years earlier, and not ready to move on. The death of her best friend was adding insult to injury, and suddenly, Candy is left floundering, hurting, and wondering why everyone she loves is taken away from her.

I enjoyed reading WHEN RAIN FALLS by Ms. Moody and am looking forward to reading the next book in this series. If you like Urban Christian and romantic suspense, then this is a book that you’ll want to read. It kept me guessing until the end who the killer might be. Discussion questions are included at the end of the book. $14.95. 288 pages.

It has been a great pleasure to watch Tyora Moody as she has assisted other authors over the past couple of years. Now with her debut WHEN RAIN FALLS she is showing readers like myself exactly why she is so good at her job: It's because she is an amazing writer herself.

We have all heard the old saying that "When it rains, it pours." No matter what success she finds, this seems to be true for the main character of WHEN RAIN FALLS. The book introduces us to Candace Johnson, a woman who has known her share of heartache and loss and who has grown weary of seeking for the light when so much darkness is all around her. After losing her best friend, once again Candace not only questions God's purpose but her own place in a world that seems so cold.

Even though there are good people around her, including detective Jackson, there seems to be no end to the violence and the pure evil that Candace has to contend with. What becomes clear to her and the reader is that she is not able to find the rainbow in her life on her own. We see a shift come to Candace when she is able to open herself up to the good that is still alive in the world, and the realization that trouble really doesn't last always. Candace is also able to see that she is not the only one going through troubles, and this leads to more understanding and appreciation of what others are going through as well.

As the truth of what is occurring around her with those she loves finally comes to light and Candace is forced to literally face the source of her troubles, there are more revelations even in the tragedies that the character and the reader by extension are able to understand.

This is not just a debut. It's an introduction to an author that is sure to be with us for some time and a series that I believe we will continue to enjoy unfolding. Wonderfully crafted and delivered in a way that readers of all genres will appreciate and enjoy, WHEN RAIN FALLS reminds us that dark days are only for a season.

How will you handle grief and tragedy? Will you hide away in your house refusing to get close to anyone again for fear of losing another loved one or will you lean on God for your strength to move forward? When the Rain Falls deals with tragedy right from the start as Candace loses another loved one after losing her husband not that long before that. Her husband and friend have both been murdered and she is determined to find out who is behind the killings and getting justice.

Detective Darnell Jackson is new on the force and actually is the replacement for Candace's husband Frank in the department. He is now working the case on Candace's friend and quickly finds out that this investigation has more twists that meets the eye. He also finds that he can't stop Candace from butting in to the case whenever she wants, but he is determined to earn her trust and help her believe that detectives can bring her justice!

This was a very hard book for me to read in the beginning because the emotional aspect of losing your husband and best friend just hit very close to home. The day after I started reading this book a tragedy hit my life and I found myself in tears trying to read this book. Moody really does have a gift with connecting the reader to the story as you can tell from my emotions. After a few days of healing for myself I picked up the book again and was excited to be encouraged and given hope as When the Rain Falls progressed!

The spiritual aspect of the story is surreal and subtle. As Candace struggles with her anger towards God she begins to heal and recognize that God will provide her strength and peace! When the Rain Falls is a great Christian mystery with a touch of romance that you'll just love! Looking forward to more by Tyora Moody.

When Rain Falls in 140 characters or less: Two unsolved murders, cop's widow + two kids lose friend. Divorced cop on case. Romance suspense!

When Rain Falls is the debut novel from Tyora Moody. I could not tell this was her first work. The writing is engaging, the plot gradually progresses with increasing speed toward the climax, and while my eyes initially bulged at the page count (it's about 370 pages), she does a lot within it. It's a must read if you like reading: a.) suspense b.) romance, and c.) Christian fiction that doesn't beat you over the head with the message.

Candace Johnson, her protagonist, is the child of a mother who's murdered. A few years prior to the events of the novel, she loses her husband, Frank, to an unsolved murder. Tragedy strikes again when Candace's best friend Pamela is killed. I tried a few rounds of "Guess the Killers" and lost. Several times.

Darnell Jackson, a West Coast transfer on the police force, is on Pamela's murder case with Frank's old partner - who still has Frank's death hanging over his head. Reluctantly, they work together to find who offed Pamela, with occasional interference from Candace.

I don't mind the romantic pairing between Darnell and Candace, as that's no mystery. Their interplay is not contrived at all, and I found it to be totally believable. The case goes in twists and turns, from the pointed fingers at Pamela's married lover and his wife, to a final twist I didn't see coming at all. Then, Moody throws a curve within that swerve. If that's not enough to bait your hook, I don't know what is.

All of the novel's threads are neatly tied together at the end. If I had one gripe (and it's one, small, tiny, melt-in-your-mouth-not-in-your-hand, bite-sized gripe). . .well, all I can say is that one of the threads "skips a loop." Weird to say at the end of a review, I know, but I HATE spoilers.

I have heard such great things about Tyora Moody’s books, so, when I first received this book to review I was so excited about reading it. I could hardly wait to dive in and when I finally got a chance to I was not disappointed.

When Rain Falls is a beautiful combination if mystery and romance; albeit a little light on the romance for my taste, but that’s just my personal preference. I’m a die hard romantic, so there could never be enough of that for me. I loved so much about this book, but what I loved most was that I had no idea "who dun-it" until I approached the last few chapters. The plot twists were enough to leave me on the edge of my seat, but not too much as to confuse me. I really enjoyed how expertly all the pieces of this puzzle was woven together.

I also loved the characters presented here. My heart really went out to the heroin, Candace Johnson. She struck me as real and relatable and I found myself rooting for her almost from the start. I also felt a connection with her circle. The women she surrounded herself with and who poured into her reminded me a lot of my own, so I could really relate to that as well. Our hero, Detective Darnell Jackson, was also a very likable and relatable character.

I loved this book from start to finish and I'm certain you will too. If you find yourself on a beach this summer, I highly recommend you drop this in your beach bag to enjoy while soaking up the sun.

Wow a very good book. A lot of twist and turns, there was never a dull moment. I enjoyed the mystery and the romance; an loved all the characters. Finally figured out the killer close to the end. All characters were well depicte; and was enthralled with each character and each setting. I could not put the book down
Beautiful story of pain, forgiveness, inner healing and restorations. It shows that we may not have a ll the answers, but that God is still in control and He is faithful to the end. Candace had to work on her past hurt to have inner healing; confronting the issues - like her aunt Maggie helped in her healing.
Loved the reality of the scenes, it was as if you were there. One example was when Candace went back the church, the dialogue was great; telling us exactly what was happening at the church was good. From the entrance of church to praise and worship and all that was said seemed so real; it was as if you were there. I enjoyed the book immensely! Excellent job Tyora Moody!

I met Tyora Moody at the 2014 Augusta Literary Festival in Augusta, Georgia, and she was one of the finalists for the 2014 Yerby Award for Fiction. I bought the first book in her Victory Gospel series and I finally had a chance to read it over the holidays.

Candace Johnson is a widowed mother of two two teenagers when she suffers another personal tragedy- the murder of her best friends Pamela Coleman. Darnell Jackson is a cop who is a transfer to the Charlotte, NC Police Department from LA. Detective Jackson becomes the lead investigator into Pamela's murder which means he ends up spending a lot of time with Candace. Together they pool their brainpower to find a killer while they cautiously acknowledge their growing attraction for each other.

I would recommend this for anyone who is in the mood to read a mystery that's not too graphic or too sickly sweet (like some cozy mysteries). I am definitely looking forward to reading books 2 and 3 in this series.

What a great debut!

Candace Johnson has suffered her share of loses. She has lost her mother, husband and now her best friend. All these loses were tragic. She was raised by an aunt who was a devout Christian. Upon high school graduation, she was determined to get from under her aunts roof. After the death of her husband, she loses hope in the police force and stops attending church. When she learns of the death of her best friend, she decides to find out who the murderer is. Will she hinder Darnell's investigation? Will justice be served?

This was a suspenseful debut. Moody does an excellent ob of tying in the murders of the husband and best friend. Character development was phenomenal. The characters were real and relatable. Christian principles sre present but not preachy or forced on you.

This book started with a bang. I started it earlier this week (having to stop at Chapter 15 - page 73), and took the rest of the day to finish this book (picking up from Chapter 15) - and did it in 4 hours. Let me just say this is truly a page turner.

When Rain Falls is a story about Candace Johnson wanted to find out who murdered not only her late husband Frank, but also her best friend Pamela Coleman. The deeper I got into this story, the more I wanted to know who murdered these two people so dear to Candace. I love mystery books and what made this book unique is that it's a Christian Mystery.

I look forward to reading her follow-up book When Memories Fade. Great job Tyora!

I had the pleasure of interviewing Tyora Moody regarding this, her debut novel and trust me when I say, this book is very hard to put down. Ms. Moody showed great depth with her great characters, and as an author myself,I really thought I had the ending all figured out, so imagine my surprise when the killer turned out to be someone I least expected. Ms. Moody has certainly done her home work when it comes to creating great red herrings, to throw readers a curve, as she did with this intriguing mystery! I can't wait to read the sequel. This was a wonderful, entertaining books from author Tyora Moody!

There is nothing more compelling than a book that opens with action as well as a scene about a terrified child. Tyora Moody grabs the reader's attention at the start, moving us to want to learn more about the child and the story. I loved this book and feel it is the proper anchor for her Victory series. The story is strong and smart. It is also a Christian fiction work that infuses faith on an everyday level, where the reader is not overwhelmed with scriptural how-tos or even beat downs. Anyone can be uplifted and inspired by the main character's flaws and spiritual understanding. Very well-written and the continuity is spot-on.
