Anabaptist History and An Introduction provides an essential scholarly synthesis of the story of Anabaptist origins and development. Thoroughly researched and documented, the book is nevertheless written in an accessible and lively style.
“In this big book Arnold Snyder undertakes to tell ‘the Anabaptist story’ in his own way. No other book performs the same function… This book tells the Anabaptist story with impressive synthetic power” – James Stayer, in the Mennonite Quarterly Review
C. Arnold Snyder is Professor Emeritus of History at Conrad Grebel University College, University of Waterloo. He is the author of The Life and Thought of Michael Sattler (Herald Press, SAMH Series, 1984) and numerous articles in Radical Reformation Studies.
I am reading this for a 2nd year Anabaptist Beginnings class. I love Snyder's style and it is an interesting read. He throws in enough stories so that the history doesn't get too dry and the formatting in the Student version make life much easier in terms of breaking things down and leaving room for notes.
He does an excellent job covering the various aspects of the Anabaptist movement from it's origins to the present, with a strong focus on its 16th century beginnings.
There are a number of spelling and grammar mistakes that I always want to let the author/publisher/editor know about, but that doesn't take away from the books content.
