There are now many books on Pure Land Buddhism around. I found this one to be of particular usefulness. Some subtle points are made clear and the necessity of vegetarianism for the aspirant is emphasized, a point usually neglected by Western interpreters. I couldn't recommend this volume more highly.

Masters of Zen and Pure Land Buddhism, Chu-hung and Tsung-pen, had one answer and a reason for every situation. And it's mostly pretty awesome.
