After their mother dies, her father packs up Deirdre and her brother and moves them from New York City to Charmette, a bayou town in Louisiana. At home, Deirdre is one of three strangers trying to recreate a family. At Charmette High, she's a Yankee who'll never fit in. She's alone in a way she'd never known before. . . until she meets Johnny. He's so mysterious and so beautiful. People say he's dangerous, and that he's got special powers. All Deirdre knows is that when she and Johnny look at each other, they're so close, they're like one person. Johnny makes her feel like her true self. And he teaches Deirdre what true love is, and how long it can last.
I read this book sometime ago and never reviewed it but I loved it. It was a nice read and had an ending that wasn't expected and made me want to cry. I truly adored this book. It is a favorite.
I was captivated By Johnny! Wasn't fond of some of the surprises in the book but overall I enjoyed it.

After Deirdre's mother died, her father packs her and her brother Manhattan, a little town in Louisiana. Where she meets a boy that is so mysterious that people call him Johnny Voodoo. So many people would make up creepy stories about him. But for some reason Deirdre's doesn't pay attention to that, all she can tell whenever they would look at each other they're so close. Soon, Johnny shows Deirdre who she really is and what love is truly about. It was a good book.
Though this book is not my usual genre to read- YA, teenage angst ( had enough of that years ago), I read it because it was written by my cousin’s daughter. I found it very well written and with depth and emotions I could relate to. Definitely can see why the other reviews often mentioned it as being a favorite book from their teen years.
Captivating book. Hated the ending. I was left feeling both heartbroken and unfulfilled, but the writing was great and I the fact that I felt so strongly truly means something. If you've ever read anything by Thomas Hardy, you'll understand how you can be simultaneously brokenhearted and awestruck at the same time. Read this--adult or teenager. You'll relate to the obsession and pain, on some level. If you appreciate meaningful writing, you'll get why the ending makes you want to curse and praise the Gods of writing all at the same time. It's bittersweet and raw, just like young adulthood. I loved it and loved Johnny to the bone.
Deidre 15 yr meets the strange, appealing mysterious boy who everyone calls Johnny Voodoo. Thru Johnny(accordion), Deidre eventually deals with the loss of his mom, learns to live in a better way with her Dad & brother. Good
Non ricordo niente ma proprio niente di niente....quindi l'impressione, deduco, non dev'essere stata né negativa né particolarmente entusiasmante. Da qui il mio giudizio mediocre.
