Scooby-Doo is probably the world's best-known and most loved cartoon pooch. Scholastic's books are the #2 Scooby licensed product in the world!
It's a series of all-new mysteries for Scooby and the gang! The kids from Mystery, Inc. arrive in the village of Crystal Cove, a small town known for its many ghosts and ghoulies. Fred and Velma are determined to debunk the area's many paranormal phenomena.
But it turns out the locals are none too eager to have their mysteries quashed! Will the gang's head for logic prevail over centuries of local legend?
Great level 2 book. My five year old loved it even though he said it was a bit long. I liked that it was, gave him a little bit of a challenge, and the words weren't too difficult except for Scooby's "accent".
This is an adaptation of a television episode, but as it is written for beginning readers, it is highly summarized and feels very disjointed. I had to make sure I didn't skip a page a few times because the narrative was not making sense and we thought we'd missed something. But the illustrations are very slick and entertaining and in any case, it is a Scooby-Doo book and we love Scooby. So as always, it was a hit with the kiddos.
This was an adaptation of an episode from the television series. As I have not, in fact, seen that particular episode I can not really make a comparison between the book and what appeared on the screen. I found the book to be enjoyable. The identity of the villain did not occur to me, though in retrospect there are few actual possibilities. Some of the regular characters from the series are not to be found in the book, but given the constraints of the format this might not be too surprising. This is a book that any Scooby-Doo aficionado is probably going to want to add to their bookshelves.
This is a good Scooby Doo book, not one that you could figure out who done it until nearly the end (not like some of the other Scooby books) BUT according to my son "they left out a WHOLE lot" from the actual cartoon episode :) He says the book is very much like the show and he liked that but it left out a lot... so if you have a child that needs things 'exactly' like they are used to then they won't like this book, but my son (although needs things the same) still liked this book being read to him. He LOVES Scooby Doo and so gave this book a thumbs up...
