A little old for my granddaughter, but she enjoyed an abridged rendition of the story and will grow into it.

The story starts out with a butterfly coming out of the chrysalis. The butterfly spreads out her wings to dy and uses her stiff legs to walk. As soon as her wings are dry she flys off. This butterfly is now beginning her long danger-filled journey. Once the sun starts to go down the butterfly hooks her tiny claws into a trees bark. Without the warmth of the sun butterflies become too stiff for flight. The next day the butterfly visits some nearby flowers, and eats. As the months start to get cold the monarchs fly down to south central Mexico. There she joins many other butterflies. There they rest all winter long. After the harsh winter the sun melts the snow and warms the butterflies wings. Soon the butterfly senses that it is time to head back up north. When the monarch reaches north Texas she layseggs and her life ends. but no worries, a new one begins.

This book is about a butterfly beginning her journey in a backyard on Aster Way. The Butterfly flew across the country down to Mexico to spend the winter. In class I would have students learn about the lifecycle of a butterfly.

This series does not dumb down the language. Using scientific descriptions and mature words to describe aspects of the Monarch, your child will learn a lot and enjoy the beautiful illustration and engaging story.

I learned a lot about butterflies. I like they are pretty and kind of hard to catch. They like it when it's sunny but when its cold or wet they want to hide. Why? It's warmer I think. - Khi 3

This butterfly book was different than the other one i read. It was story based and went day to day and season by season of a butterflys life. It had some different information than the other book which is good about reading different books on one topic. it has neat pictures to go with the story and can tell what the picture is saying without having to read the words

Lovely. Focus on the butterfly stage of life including migration. The copy we got from the library said it came with a music CD. It was actually a reading of the book.
