Successful Classroom Management: Real-World, Time-Tested Techniques for the Most Important Skill Set Every Teacher Needs has some decent classroom management ideas, but where it excels is in its ideas for lesson planning, sponges, closure, grading, parent-teacher conferences, and much more.

Unfortunately, authors Richard H. Eyster and Christine Martin are very repetitive, so you’ll definitely want to skim the first four chapters. Still, a book worth reading, especially for brand-new teachers.

Very thorough and thoughtful advice. It mostly discusses the importance of building connections with students which is hopefully common sense! Still I will be recommending it to my student teachers as an excellent resource!!!

Great Overall Read… Helpful!

I recommend this book to any teacher looking to improve classroom management or student engagement, and anyone new to the field. The positive is that there is a plethora of strategies to address or prevent student behavior issues, as well as references to some outside resources. The only thing I find a little challenging is that some of the sections have so many steps to follow it can be cumbersome and not sustainable until they become a habit. In my practice, I will be implementing a few new things at a time, while reinforcing what I already do. Highly recommended!

If you are a teacher and you just had one of those days that makes you want to walk out on teaching this book will save you! The techniques they dissect will help you mold your class into something most teachers take years to set up. So much wonderful insights and examples that truly make you realize you are not alone in this. Teachers are amazing people but sometimes we just need someone to remind us of that and this book will do that for you! Highly recommend!

This book was long but it was enjoyable. I felt like I finally found a book that could answer a lot of my questions about classroom management. I liked that it offered specific suggestions for different discipline problems. Very good and helpful book.

The author provides a plethora of new-age ideas for teachers in the classroom. While I do believe several of these ideas sound better on paper and aren't as practical (such as patronizing kids with sincere comments that aren't genuine but are meant to help them), there are many ideas that I will use and I know will be helpeful.
