This was a companion book to Covert Justice. It was a great read, with suspense, romance, and great characters, which this author always does so well. I really enjoyed it.
This is a Romantic Suspense. This book had me from the first page. This book is full of suspense and action with just a little bit of love/romance. I really enjoyed getting to know these characters, and I love the characters. The mystery in this book had me guessing, and I really loved it. This is a fast paced short read with so much put into it.
Hidden Legacy was actually very good! I didn't read the companion novel before this one (mainly because I didn't know there was a companion novel!), but that didn't keep me from thoroughly enjoying this story.
I liked the second chance romance and the characters were nice. There were scenes of suspense and danger and basically everything you look for in a LIS.
All in all, I recommend Hidden Legacy if you enjoy LIS.
*I received a complimentary eBook copy of this book for my honest review. As always, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.*
Harlequin gave me this short, larger print book and I am very glad they did. It was well written, inspiring because of the comments, the main character Jason made, which influenced Caroline. Caroline and her baby were targeted for death and Jason helped along with friends to find out what was going on--the whys and whos. Lots of action, suspense, and love in this one. Just my kind of book.
Though this is labeled "Inspirational Romantic Suspense" and the MC's faith is important to them, it's not a "hit the reader over the head so they will convert" story. The emphasis is definitely on the mystery behind the murder attempts on Caroline & the baby she is adopting. Throw in a second-chance thread & it's a good story.
Caroline arrives home to a ransacked house and it quickly becomes apparent that either her or the child she has custody of are being targeted. Local detective Jason is assigned the case and Caroline and Jason have a history. They are forced to deal with what happened between them that fractured their relationship while trying to figure out who is targeting Caroline (or the child) and why. I was fully invested.
Intense action, intriguing suspense, great character development, sweet and gentle second chance love story, an adorable baby - this story has it all, and does it well! The characters are multiple and likable, from protagonists to the supporting cast and crew, they have all distinctive characteristics, they are unique, with their strengths and weaknesses, and they all have something about them that made me have a connection with them, understand where they were coming from, and like them all the same. Most of them had personally found salvation in the Lord, and had faith in God, in His guidance in their lives, this was clear to see as they proudly proclaimed it. Caroline Harrison and Jason Drake obviously have a connection. The once wrecked childhood friendship gave them a foundation start building something new, something solid, mature, and lasting. They could not have hidden the feelings they have for each other even if they tried. The past mistakes and hurt were handled without too much angst and drama, there was enough tension, trouble, and danger from the threats and murder attempts against Caroline and her son. The story has an enthralling, compelling tone and tempo, it pulled me right into the story, and held me captive till the end. It has heart-stopping moments of pure fear and devastation, at one point I even questioned if there could be a happy ending and if everyone could make it alive through the disastrous attacks with a murderous intent. A breathtaking, thrilling, and impressive tale on many levels, that will deliver a sincere message of forgiveness, while keeping you entertained with the action and romance ~ Four Spoons with a teaspoon on the side
"The house had been ransacked." What a great opening line for a heart-stopping romantic suspense. It promises so much, even as it raises questions in a curious reader's mind. If my tummy wasn't flipping over the relentless attacks against Caroline and little Henry, it was flipping over a certain Detective who just happens to be an old love interest. The one that got away, though Caroline's heart is having a difficult time believing that it's really over. She's guarded. He's wary. But their past differences have to be put aside so they can deal with the ever present danger. Delicious tension -- both romantic and suspense -- amped up my reading frenzy and I devoured Hidden Legacy in an afternoon.
Caroline Harrison knows that something is terribly wrong when she returns home with her soon to be adopted son and finds an intruder and a ransacked house. The danger quickly ramps up, and they find themselves in grave danger when he fires a shot at her car. The attack is not random, as Caroline has a complicated security system that had been breached. Enter into the picture Jason Drake, a former boyfriend that she hasn’t seen in many years. As Jason leads the investigation team, he realizes that there is a hit man involved. Even with their past history, he is determined to protect Caroline and baby Henry at all costs. This is a really incredible suspense novel. The lead investigator and main character have a history together, and it's not a not pretty one, as he left her. Caroline has to get past their previous history to trust him with her and her son's life. The team ultimately has to figure out who the childs’ parents are and question whether someone could have a grudge against an adoptive parent. They also need to figure out if Caroline, whose family owns a successful corporation, is the target……or is it the child? I won this book in a giveaway from the author and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I can now happily say I’ve read everything this author has published. She’s a fresh voice in Christian Romantic Suspense and this book did not disappoint. The twists keep coming right til the very end. Can’t wait to read her next offering.
Hidden Legacy is a Love inspired Suspense by Lynn Huggins Blackburn. It contains no objectionable language or graphic sex scenes. This makes it a great read for everyone. Caroline Harrison is in the process of adopting her best friend’s, Samantha, baby boy, Henry. Samantha had asked her to do this and she had agreed. Now it was only a couple of weeks and Henry would legally be hers. Samantha had never said who the father was and she stated in her will that she did not want Henry to have any connection with his father’s family. When she arrived home one day, she found her house had been ransacked and the burglar was still in the house and he shot at them. She managed to get herself and Henry away as well as dial 911 for help. When help did arrive, she was flustered to find Jason Drake among them. Jason had broken her heart years ago when he left town. He hadn’t wanted to live in this small town; but he had returned to help his parents. Before they can explore their feelings, they must find out who was behind the attempts on her life and Henry’s. Which one was the target? Why?
"Hidden Legacy" is a Christian romantic suspense novel. This is the second book in the series, though it works as a stand alone. However, this book did "spoil" what went on in the first novel.
The suspense was created by someone trying to kill Caroline and her son. I loved the scene where Jason's mother tells them to get inside (rather than get romantically distracted in the open) since someone's trying to kill them--but what does she know, she's just a housewife! lol. Go, girl!
I liked all of the main characters. The hero and heroine both had some issues to face before they could get together. Jason previously left Caroline behind because he didn't want to be near his birth father. Caroline was dealing with why God allowed bad things to happen.
The Christian theme was naturally woven into the story and was about forgiveness and trusting God. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this enjoyable novel.
I received an ebook review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.
Caroline is in the process of adopting her friends baby and on the way back home finds an unwelcome visitor in her house. After a few attempts on her and the baby's life they come to realized that the baby just maybe the target. Jason Drake is on the case and use to have some history with Caroline which makes things a bit complicated. With sparks reigniting the two will have to put things off until they can find out if Caroline and the baby lives long enough to have a future.
Overall this was a pretty great book. It was action packed and fast paced. There was never a dull moment in my opinion. This book was easy to get sucked into and very hard to put down. I manged to devour this book within maybe 3 hours and that goes to say that I enjoyed it. I loved getting to see that connection between Caroline and Jason. I loved getting to see the mystery unfold. I loved that I constantly wondered when would the hit man strike next. It was a pretty great book I enjoyed it!
Strong lead characters combine with an action-packed plot to create a book which will have the reader playing along with the characters as they unravel the clues. Some expected twists keep the reader engaged throughout.
Caroline Harrison’s house is ransacked by someone who is determined to prevent her from adopting baby Henry. It even appears that Henry may be the intended target. Detective Jason Drake once broke Caroline’s heart. She must now trust him to keep her safe from a hitman who is one step ahead of them. Jason and Caroline believe Henry’s biological father may be key to unraveling the puzzle pieces. Will they be able to do that before it’s too late? (LOVE INSPIRED SUSPENSE, Jun., 224 pp., $5.22)
"Strong lead characters combine with an action-packed plot to create a book which will have the reader playing along with the characters as they unravel the clues" (4 stars @ RT Book Reviews).

Meinung:
This is the second book that Lynn has done for LIS but I have to tell you she is becoming one of my favorites. This book is well written, action packed, and fast paced. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to her next one. I know you are going to love it. Carolyn Harrison's sister has died leaving a beautiful baby boy. Carolyn is unaware of who the father is; she only knows that he was in jail and died, and her sister made her promise not to let his family know about the child.. Carolyn is in the process of adopting him; he is almost hers when an intruder breaks into her home, vandalizes her home and attempts to shoot them. The baby seems to be the target but why? She is rescued by the one man she hoped never to see again. Can Jason keep them safe without breaking her heart again? Detective Jason Drake arrives only to find the one woman he loves. He broke her heart and has regretted it all these thirteen years. Can he find who is trying to kill them, keep them safe, and find a way back into Caroline's heart? An exciting journey of being reunited with first love and a struggle to keep the baby alive and find a killer. God has a plan for this little family; a good plan, not for evil, a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too. Give Him your heart and watch Him move on your behalf.
This book is full of mystery, suspense, romance, family and so much more. I am not sure if it is part of a series or not, It seems it would be a great one if not. I fell in love with most of the characters and want to know their history and future. If you enjoy police/FBI type books you will love this one.
Caroline Harrison is excited about the upcoming adoption of Henry, yet when it seems someone is trying to kill them she must rely on the only man who has ever broken her heart. Will thy be able to stay alive and possibly have a future?
Jason Drake is a handsome detective with history he would like to forget. When Caroline is in need of protection will history repeat itself or is their more in store for them, if they can stay alive.
Trying to figure out who is behind this mystery and hoping Caroline and Jason will get together makes this so much more than a christian romance. I loved all the suspense that was in this novel too and look forward to reading more from this author.
Is redemption real? Can a person change? Is forgiveness available for everyone?
These are underlying questions that Lynn Blackburn addresses in her latest romantic suspense book, “Hidden Legacy”. Blackburn’s command on weaving a tale is powerful.
North Carolina-grown Caroline Harrison had all the trappings of a happy life. Rich. Beautiful. Loyal to a fault. Little did she know this loyalty put her life—and soon-to-be-adopted son’s life—in danger.
Jason Drake, retired military and now County Sheriff of the same North Carolinian city, returned home to tend to his father and beloved stepfather while sidestepping the history that made him leave in the first place. Now a string of accidents and mysterious deaths making their paths again and open old wounds.
A great whodunit. I didn’t have a clue how the story would end until I made it to the end of the book.
A great Christian suspensive romance with no vulgarity or sex scenes. I look forward to the Blackburn’s next book.
Excellent book. It was exciting, suspenseful, and even a little romantic at times. The mystery of the attacks, the love coming back to the surface little bits at a time, and the family/friends coming together to take care of each other really made for the perfect "must sit and read in one sitting" experience. I do not like to give a summary because I think those reading reviews should really just read the book for themselves. This is one I would highly recommend. Buy it if you can, or if you are my friend, please let me know if you want to borrow my copy. I'm thankful my grandmother sends me her books when I've exhausted my book budget (which is not even supposed to exist).
3.5 stars--I've read other Lynn Blackburn novels but not the companion novel to this one. There's a history between Jason and Caroline that I didn't understand for much of the book. Oh, I knew they'd been together at one time and then broken up, but the details were all a bit hazy which made it hard to understand how they related to each other currently, as they reunite to try to keep her almost-adopted infant son safe.
I felt the suspense wrapped up rather quickly--more time was taken to set the story than to capture the suspect and wrap up the romance--I kind of felt like that was sacrificed to the page count.
Be prepared to sit on the edge of your seat. Suspense at its finest. The characters seemed so real. I am afraid I have become rather attached to them. It was disappointing in a way when I finished because I wanted to keep reading about Caroline and Henry as well as Jason. It also helped that the story is based in an area where I used to live so I could visualize the places in the book. This book was also great on an inspirational level. I love reading books that although they are fiction, they keep my eyes focused on the Lord. I hope their will be more books by this talented author.
Action from the very first page, Caroline is in the process of adopting her best friends son. When things started going crazy, someone broke into her house and the intruder took a shot at her and Henry. Jason had left Caroline because he thought he was not good enough for her but now he is back working for the sheriff's department. Can he protect her and baby Henry and maybe recapture what they had before. This story had attempted murder, fire ants, drones, and forgiveness.
I read 50 shades and then wanted to read more romance novels... This book was alright. The story was a little slow in my opinion. Most of the big ticket items came in the last 50 or so pages for me. It took me months to get through out of pure disinterest. It's the first "love inspired suspense" book that I have read and I do have a few more in my collection. Hopefully the others, written by different authors, are a bit better. Then again, what can you expect from "basic paperbacks"?
The synopsis explains the story so I skip that in my review. This is another very good story by Lynn H Blackburn that has romance mystery and suspense. It moves along at a good pace.
I loved Jason and Caroline and how protective Jason was. I enjoyed the jealousy between Jason and Kyle over Caroline. The supporting characters were all very good.
I recommend this book as well as the others by Lynn H Blackburn.
I don't think I can accurately describe how much I liked this book. It was so good. I loved the whole idea that Jason was willing to do anything for the girl he never stopped loving. It made me get teary eyed.
This was an excellently written book. The action and suspense reeled me in from the beginning and wouldn’t let me go. The romantic aspect was on point, and I loved little Henry.
The only downfall is that I didn’t realize there was a book written before this. I would’ve read it before had I known, but it’s only a minor downfall.
I would for sure recommend this book! It’s a great read.
