The Biblical Basis of Christian Counseling for People Helpers: Relating the Basic Teachings of Scripture to People's Problems

Rate this book
Almost anyone with a desire to help others can be a people helper, but often those Christians who feel most called to counsel are unsure of how to use the Bible to ease another person’s problems. This book will guide you to a practical, working knowledge of Scripture, the character of God, and the basics of the Christian faith―the core of what Christian counselors must know to be truly effective in helping others.

Not a bad book, outdated and makes a mediocre attempt at being a systematic textbook for Christian Counselors. There are some really important reminders in each page but as a theology application for Counseling I found it lacking in depth and breadth.

A great book that goes into a very biblical way of counseling and people helping. Took me through some basic biblical theology and thoughts on spiritual forces in problems that was very useful!

I read this as a textbook for a graduate degree class - Biblical Theology of Counseling. Collins shows how our theology directly impacts how we understand who God is, the purpose of creation, what is right and wrong, the nature of human beings, and how to best help them. He highlights some of the basic doctrines of the Bible and shows how they can be the lens through which we see our own lives and those who have come to us for help. For those who want to help others in their Christian faith, this is a good book to read.

It was a textbook on how to apply biblical teachings to counseling. While I learned a lot, I also struggled to understand a good portion of the book since at times it felt as if it was written for those with a greater understanding of how the world works, with a superior vocabulary. I do think I'm intelligent but I didn't feel that way when reading this.
