This is an interesting book about an interesting man. Ely Culbertson had a huge ego and gambler's mentality which allowed him to not only play Contract Bridge in its early years, but dominate it. He had a flair for showmanship plus he knew how to play the game at a very high level and this allowed him to have a public persona that eclipsed the game itself and he became a personality known by the public at large. His background of growing up in Russia and how he became a revolutionary is a story in itself. Like many flamboyant personalities he had many problems with his life and family and he could spend his money as fast as he made it. He was quite the personality in a time of big personalities and I enjoyed learning more about this man and his life.
