Ok. Just like pulling off a band-aid. Here we go: I started reading this book while I was on my vacation. After about a half, I simply couldn’t take it anymore, so I stopped. Then two nights ago, my conscience began to gnaw at me and I had no choice but to at least try. I admit to only skimming through the second half, mostly because I’ve read the story before. It just had a different cover and some other title.

At the beginning of the summer, Kate was in a terrible accident that killed both her parents, and she woke up from a coma with the ability to see other people’s auras. She can judge characters and read emotions through colors, something she only admitted to her best friend Lee. Now it’s time for Kate to go back to school and face her new life. Her boyfriend Aaron is very supportive, her grandparents are great people and everyone thinks Kate is on the road to recovery. But on her first day of school, Kate runs into the new boy, Patrick, the only person with a grey aura she’s ever seen. It turns out that Patrick is a Guardian (yes, that would be guardian angel) who came to protect Kate from the terrible Demons (with black auras, of course) that are out to get her.

I will not point out everything I think is wrong with this book. We’ve been down that road many times before and I don’t think it makes any difference either way. It wasn’t badly written at all, there weren’t any words trying to jump out and poke my eye out. This was just a YA book meant for *gasps* young adults and, while it might be interesting for them, older audience will certainly find it a little boring.

If you’ve read Halo, Hush, Hush and Evermore and enjoyed them, you WILL enjoy Seers. Good for you! If not, find something else to read. This is one of those stories.

I added the second star because the writing really was pretty decent.

I really enjoyed this spin on angels and demons. I connected with Kate right away. Even though she’s had to deal with some hard times, like the death of her parents, she’s strong and resilient, and also cautious about the people around her. She doesn’t whine, or fall head-over-heels in love with the new, mysterious guy. In fact, she’s kind of freaked out by Patrick, and takes her time learning about him and getting to know him. I love smart girls.

I also liked that she tried to make her relationship work with her boyfriend Aaron, even though she’s falling for Patrick. She remains loyal to him, and gives it her best, but in the end, the heart wants what the heart wants. I loved the relationship building between Patrick and Kate. The trust they learned to have between each other. They had some major swoon-worthy moments, too.

All the characters were fun, and I felt acted like real teens. The plot took a little time to get going, but when it did, the story filled with action and tension. This is a faced-paced, light, yet at times deep, YA Paranormal Romance that keeps the twists coming.

Author interview at http://nightlyreading.wordpress.com/2...

I really enjoyed this book! The storyline is one that I have not really seen much of in the YA genre. The idea of Seers amazes me. I would love to be able to see people’s auras, all the pretty colors. I think it would be beautiful!

The characters from this book were absolutely unbelievable! I really enjoyed them all! I was not a big fan of Aaron at first, especially with how he just expected Kate to hurry up and “get over” the loss of her family. By the end of the book, I did feel sorry for him, but not that much:) My favorite character was Toni. Toni is the wacky sidekick in all dynamic duos. The one that everybody loves, but no one would ever date because he is just that abnormal. I also thought that Lee was a great BFF. My favorite chapter for those of you that will be reading the book soon, keep on the lookout for the double date scene. It just had me in stitches and all done so that Lee could prove a point!

The love story is agonizing. Kate and Patrick have a unique love story that will last the test of time. Patrick tries to put his feelings for Kate aside and just be her guardian. Kate has so many unresolved feelings for Aaron and I did truly believe that she loved him. Deep down, I think they both knew what they wanted and it was torture watching them both suffer.

The ending was wonderful and I think that I do see a sequel on the horizon, but nothing has been mentioned as of yet. Fans of Twilight will love this book due to the romance itself. I sure did!

I ground my teeth together, then admitted it in a burst. “I’m attracted to Patrick O’Donnell. Are you happy now?’

“uh-huh,” she grinned, and pushed into the empty bathroom. “Now the real question is, what are you going to do about?"

After the accident that took her parents’ life, Kate Bennet could be never be the same girl again. It wasn’t just the emotional after effect. After her near-death experience, Kate Bennet can see auras. When she tries to tell people, nobody believes her. So she has no other choice but to keep it a secret from all except her best friend Lee. But then Patrick O’Donnel moves into her town and her school. He is not what he pretends to be and only Kate knows that because she can see the lack of his aura. The events that follow, turns Kate’s world upside down as she discovers the truth about herself and Patrick.

Kate Bennet turns out to be a really nice and likeable girl. Patrick is the hottie in story, but he gave in to Kate every single time. That reflects that either Kate is a strong force to be reckoned with or Patrick is too love-sick. Either way, it was fun for me. The twins, Josie and Jenna are positive additions to the story. But I loved Kellie, a.k.a Lee. She is such a loyal friend that I was often jealous of Kate. Yes, Lee is eccentric, but she is also bubbly and a good friend. Aaron is the sweet guy that every parents approve of.

So, this is not your typical angel/demon story. The guardian Angels do not have wings and the demons do not have horns. Yet Heather Frost has created a captivating new fantasy world. There’s quite a bit of romance, action and a lot of twists to keep you reading. Though there are similarities between this book and Evermore Series by Alyson Noel, this particular plot had a refreshing feel for a change. It is because of Heather’s writing style which is much more captivating. I was surprised to find out how young Heather is and she has enough time before her to mature. So I am sure, she will only get better.

I am looking forward to reading part 2 of the book soon.

Wow! Heather Frost, I'm impressed. I loved this book. I honestly had a hard time putting the book down. I loved the concept behind the Seers, Guardians, and Demons.
Kate Bennett is a great character. Pretty average, all-in-all, until the tragic accident that claimed her parents changes her life. When a person survives a horrible tragedy, they are often changed. Kate can now see auras - people's emotions surrounding them in colors. What a neat way to read what people are thinking. She tries her best to get used to the change, but it's not easy.
In come the Guardians. "Guardian angels" as she calls them, though they aren't really angels. Sadly, they're stuck in that stage between life and death forever. They aren't alive, but they aren't in Heaven or Hell either. The Guardians come to protect Kate from Demons - very similar to Guardians, but (obviously) on the bad side.
I don't want to spoil any of the adventure, but this seriously was a fantastically well-written book! I'm just bummed I have to wait so long for the sequel...

Heather Frost's Seers, is the first book in what appears to be a new series if the ending is any indication. Kate Bennett is a Seer who can see people’s auras. Kate became a seer after nearly dying in a car accident that claimed the lives of her parents, and brother.

A seer like Kate lives between two separate planes of existence. Seers can discern the difference between beings like Demons and Guardians by the color of their auras. Guardians, like Patrick and Toni, are supposed to keep an eye on Seers and make sure that Demons can't get to them. Often times they fail in their mission.

Patrick O’Donnell is a Guardian who died at the age of 18 while fighting against the British for Ireland’s independence in 1798. When readers first meet him, he is playing the part of a new transfer student who moved to New Mexico from Ireland. He ends up in every single class of Kate’s which seriously freaks Kate out to the point of believing he’s some sort of stalker dude. Patrick's arrival in town coincided with the deaths of her parents in a car crash. Patrick even tried to remove the Sight from Kate while she was in the hospital, but her abilities are too strong.

Like all YA novels, there seems to be a trend where the girl protagonist has to find love in all the wrong places when she already has a boyfriend who has done nothing but support, encourage and love her since her accident. Thus, when it becomes apparent that Kate has fallen for Patrick at the expense of her boyfriend Aaron Phelps; nobody should be surprised in what direction the story turns.

The whole thing with Guardians and Demons is not something that is new to readers of any genre. If you are basically a good person and haven’t killed anyone, then you are given a choice to either go straight to heaven, or become a guardian. Whereas Demons are just plain old evil people both in life and in death and that will never change. The part that is truly strange is that Demons and Guardians are unable to see each other until a Seer points them out. Then, there is the whole touch rule where Demons aren't allowed to touch any human without their permission.

Kate isn’t the protagonist you are going to jump for joy for and say, “wow, did she just kick some series ass or what?” No, Kate’s character is sad, depressed, and jumpy individual who keeps secrets from her best friend and boyfriend. The lies and half-truths hurt more than the truth itself.

The surprise character of the book and most likable in my humble opinion is Kate’s grandfather. After losing half her family, Kate and twin sisters Jenna and Jose, end up living with their grandparents. Grandfathers little secret near the end of the story is mind blowing as well as hilarious and probably one of the better parts of the story.

Generally speaking, there are some glaring editorial errors in this book, which I can only hope are corrected before the release date. Kate is really a blah character since she has no clue how to fight or protect herself from the Demons who want her so badly. This book has an annoying cliffhanger ending with I totally despise and wonder if I would even consider continuing to read this story when, and if the next book comes out in the future.

I received this book free of charge from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

This book is very easy for me to review: I loved it! Go read it!! NOW! What are you waiting for?!

Ok, ok, I'm going to give a little bit more than that, but really that's the most important part! This book was such a quick read for me because I loved the storyline, the plot, the pacing, and especially the characters.

Summary from Goodreads: "For Kate Bennet, surviving the car wreck that killed her parents means big changes and even bigger problems. As she begins to see auras and invisible people, Kate must learn to trust Patrick O'Donnell, a handsome Guardian, or risk her life being overrun with Demons. She soon realizes that both she and her heart are in big-time trouble."

Kate has kind of gotten used to being able to see very colorful auras around everybody, depending upon their moods, when she's thrown for a loop. She goes to school one day and sees not one, but two boys with only a thing silver aura surrounding them. And to make things even worse, one of them seems to be invisible to everyone else! Patrick, the new boy in her class (definitely cute, with a lilting Irish brogue), helps her with this perplexing problem by explaining that she is a Seer, and he and Toni (the invisible boy) are Guardians, demon-fighters who really hate being called guardian angels. Being a seer means that Kate can see the black aura surrounding demons, so the Guardians can protect her and basically the human race, from the havoc these demons wreak.

Kate and Patrick are such a sweet, cute couple - the only problem is her boyfriend, Aaron, who is definitely in the picture. Kate has to learn to accept her feelings for Patrick and deal with Aaron at the same time. If I had a problem at all in this wonderful book it would be that Kate's relationship with Aaron continues well past the time she should have ended it. But that is only a minor quibble on my part. It certainly did not detract from my enjoyment of the book.

The characters in the book are well developed, even the secondary characters. Kate's best friend, Lee, is a free spirit who happens to be going through a goth phase right now, and she is definitely a hoot. She is a terrific friend and helps Kate straighten her feelings out with the boys. And Toni, the second Guardian, is a wise cracking ex-thief who drives Patrick crazy, in a good way! Patrick is kind of his Big Brother Guardian. He's been working with Toni for 20 years and still has trouble keeping him in line!

The book starts out with the tale of Patrick's actual death in Ireland in 1798. The story is told from two points of view, Patrick's and Kate's, and I think this works well for this story. If it was only Kate's POV we wouldn't get to experience a lot of Patrick's thoughts and feelings, and I really thing the story would suffer from that.

In summary, I enthusiastically recommend this book to all lovers of YA and paranormal stories. I give it a definite 5/5 stars :D

My thoughts

Cover: Its not the best cover out there. But it caught my attention when I saw it on netgalley.
Update: I liked it more and more while reading ’’Seers’’. I think the pinkish comes from being with Patrick .

Book: The prologue was one of my favorite parts of this book. You get background information on the leading male, Patrick. The front that was used in the prologue was like a letter of sort. I really liked it.

The writing style was enjoyable and there are two pov but Kate narrates mostly. And I loved the front of the chapters which are the same as the title.

Kate Bennet ,the female protagonist , a 18 year old teen(yay a older protagonist) and sees aura’s (get it ‘‘Seers’’,lol) after a disastrous car in summer. On the first day of school she meets Patrick O’Donnell, a 18 year old Irish exchange student (swoon, have a thing on the Irish accent on women) who is in fact a 200 something year old guardian, you could say angelic but not exactly. They can’t go to heaven if after they choose to become one. I see what you’re thinking ‘’She falls for the mysterious new hot dude at first glance’’. No she does not.

She dislikes him because he has a silver aura, something must be terribly weird with him.( Normal people have a lot of colors together pink, blue, green etcetera. Demons have black ones) at first but falls for him almost midway through the book and Patrick over the 200 page mark. But almost to the end they both know that both likes each other. Kate learns what a seer is, what she is.

Their love is not gagging, loved the description of the first kiss I knew it was around the corner but did not know when, was so happy it happened. I’m a sappy romantic I know, lol.

Loved all the characters.
•Toni , a guardian a bit immature, ok that’s a understatement. But he is so funny. Loved his dialogues with Kate, Patrick, and Lee, Kate’s best friend

•Lee , what a wonderful amazing best friend. She knows Kate better than Kate knows herself

•Grandpa and grandma ,what wonderful old folk. What you would see on a hallmark card. Said enough.lol

The plot had a mafia –ish feel to it. The demons where mafia ish. Patrick had more than two chapters I think, hope that in book two there are a lot more.

The epilogue gave me information what to expect from book two. Looking forward to it. Some plot points gave me a ‘’Huh’’ reaction, besides that its a good book.

I gave this book a 4.5/5 stars

This song reminds me of the first chapters of Seers

My rating: 4/5

This last year hasn't been easy for Kate. She lost her parents in a car accident. The same accident that contributed to Kate's new abnormal penchant for seeing auras. Convinced that she was going crazy, she clammed up and said she was fine, that the visions disappeared. However, they in fact continued to shine in brilliance around her. She doesn't think anything of her new gift until she sees several beings with sinister looking auras. When she learns that evil walks among the living, she'll have to decide what is worth fighting for.
Kate's had a hard time, which is understandable. Having lost both her parents in an accident it is easy to commiserate with Kate as she struggles to come to terms with her new reality. Having the ability to see auras complicates things as well, but she shows that she is a trooper, and once she's committed to something, she'll see it through. With her new abilities changing and expanding, it's easy to see how intimidating situations can be, especially when you throw demons in the mix.
One of the aspects I loved most about the book are the characters. Lee is the happiest and friendliest best friend ever. She also happens to be a goth this year. Every year she changes her look, but she sticks by Kate and pushes her to choose between the two guys in Kate's life. She brings about some of the funniest elements in the book and I couldn't help loving her character.
Patrick is a fantastic character as well. I loved reading about him in the prologue and getting a view of him that Kate doesn't necessarily get to see at first. He's the embodiment of the perfect guy, though it takes a while for Kate to see that.
Though Seers brings about the tried and true method of guardian angels, demons and seers, it is still a refreshing read, made all the more fun with the mostly memorable cast of characters. The plot may be predictable in some places, but the bond between Kate and her family, as well as her friends will have you reading well into the night.
All in all, an enjoyable read. I'm left curious, wanting to know what happens next. Paranormal fans should enjoy this one. Though the plot was predictable at times, and I wasn't riveted to my seat, I did find it a fast-paced and fun read, especially when Lee was in control. The characters absolutely make this book.

Do you know what The Vampire Academy, Possession and Seers all have in common? There's a cute girl who falls in love with the bad boy . . . who isn't quite what he seems.

Another thing they have in common? They are all in my top ten FAVE YA book series!

Now, I read a ton, ton, ton. And it's really hard to make it to my top ten. So that should tell you right there how much I absolutely LOVED Seers by Heather Frost. I had the hardest time putting my Nook down when I needed to do something important - like pick up my kids from school or you know, eat. I was totally pulled in right from the beginning as Patrick lay dying. Then as a Guardian (think Guardian Angel - although Guardians HATE being called that), he meets Kate. And dang, I love the initial mistrust which leads to curious banter and eventually fireworks. Or actually, more like the suspense you get when you're in a big crowd waiting for the fireworks to start. It's awesome! Of course, aside from the romantic aspect of the book, there's lots of suspense as the Guardians protect Kate while the Demons try to get control of her.

The only thing I think that needs to be tweaked or added into the series, is that in the book blurb, it says that Kate survived a horrific car accident she was in with her parents, who die. And the reason she becomes a seer is because of how close to death she was - but we never get any details about the car accident, other than a few sentences when Kate talks about waking up in the hospital and could see auras. I would have liked a few more details - maybe where they were going, nightmares or something. Another note, the blurb that goes with the book isn't my favorite. I really like how Fic Talk expanded the blurb.

But overall, this book is excellent for anyone who enjoys a good YA suspenseful read with some paranormal elements (assuming you consider Guardian Angels and Demons paranormal).

You can find out more about Seers and read the first few chapters on its website. Enjoy!

My Opinion:

I really liked this one. This is the first kind of demon/guardian type book that I have read and it is very good. It was well written and thought out and leaving you wanting more. I was not able to put the book down till I had finished it. That’s how much I liked it.

Kate has recently lost her parents in a car crash and if that isn’t enough to have to deal with she suddenly can see people’s auras. She realizes in the beginning that she must speak of it to anyone. She and her sister’s now are taken care of by her grandparent’s. And I love how they are written in the story. They are upbeat and fun. Kate is especially close to her grandfather. But she doesn’t want her family to know she has this ability. She does tell her best friend and she does get some relief from the secret that way. But then suddenly strange things start to happen to her and she leaves even her best friend out of the loop.

Patrick comes into her life and starts to hang around a little to much for Kate. She knows there is something wrong with him from his aura. Patrick is trying to protect her but is not doing a very good job. He is her guardian. Kate doesn’t know what to make of Patrick and is having problems with her boyfriend.
Then she starts to realize that Patrick is trying to help her.

As Kate struggles with all her problems like school, her boyfriend, her best friend, learning about her abilities, losing her parents, demons that might be after her. She starts to have feelings for Patrick but is unsure what to do since she has a boyfriend that doesn’t seem to get that fact that she has changed since the accident. As this story progresses it gets better and better. This is an enjoyable read and so much is going on you can not wait to read more.

I give Seers 4.5 of 5 stars.

Kate's special for all the wrong reasons. She survived a car crash that killed her parents, and she has had guilt and sadness with her ever since. The real problem though comes in a much more supernatural form. Kate can now see auras. Her world is full of rainbows of emotions. If that's not enough, her relationship with her perfect boyfriend has gone stale. When a dashing new boy joins her classes, Kate notices something different about him. More specifically, she notices something different about his aura. Kate soon learns that her ability has put her in a special position as a "seer," one who can choose to help Guardians or Demons. However, it looks like someone wants to make that choice for her. It will take all that Kate has to take care of otherworldly business and still get home in time for the formal.

I loved this book! It grabbed my attention from the start and never let it go. Kate is an awesome character. I think she could easily have become this person who dwelled too much on everything that was wrong in her life and all her tragedies, but she didn't. She was strong and fierce. Patrick was also interesting. I wanted to know more about his past. I could keep talking about each character I loved, but this would be a long review then. I can't leave out Kate's Grandpa though. What a fun person! You just know that being with her Grandpa, Kate felt loved and safe.I highly recommend this book. It has action and romance. It feel fresh. I did not want to put the book down. It is a fast and super fun read. This book will draw you in and make you forget about everything but what's happening to Kate and her crew. I definitely hope to read more about them!

The reader will first meet Patrick in the prologue and a different time period. Patrick is portrayed as the pacifier; he is brave and calm. The book then fast forwards to the present and Kate, the main character. Kate and her sisters are still grieving over the abrupt death of their parents. To make matter worse, Kate has discovered she might be a psychic. The only other person she entrusts with this knowledge is tough-as-nails
"Lee", her new best friend. Kate lives with her grandparents, who may tiptoe around her-worried that she is depressed. With so many adjustments in her life, Kate has a hard time figuring out and dealing with her newfound power. Patrick shows up at Kate's school. He is enigmatic, protective, and stoic. Kate soon learns that she needs him more than she realized, her family is harangued by Demons. The story takes off from there.

The characters are all very likable, the reader won't have a hard time connecting to Kate. Kate, too, is fairly stoic and intelligent. Patrick rounds out the book. The secondary characters are easy and fun to get to know, for the most part. The events in this book, particularly in the middle, are fast-paced and exciting. The book ends on a bit of a cliff-hanger, there will be a sequel! This book is recommended for young adults/teens who enjoy mystery books and thrillers with a touch of romance.

To be honest, I just plain loved this book. I got it for Christmas and couldn't keep my nose out of it and yes, finished it before the day let out. This is why Seers, written by Heather Frost, is now one of my favorite books.

Plot: After Kate's parents die in a car accident with Kate inside the car, Kate becomes a Seer, one who can see people's auras. She is balanced not only on the Earthly plane but on the Demon and Guardian Planes as well. I won't tell you much more but I thought this plot was very interesting and I liked it a lot.

Characters: There is Kate who is emotionally struggling with the fact that both her parents are dead. Soon we are introduced to her best friend Lee who has a lot of spunk and isn't afraid to stand out. There's also the quiet, reserved, yet protective Patrick O' Donnell and his companion, the ever joking and humorous theif Toni. Frost has a gift in expressing her character's emotions very clearly and that is probably one of my favorite parts of the book.

Overall, I simply loved this book and can't wait to get my hands on Demons.

I didnt like this as much as I thought. I means yes it was good- hence the 4 star rating -however its not one I will be able to remember after another couple of reads.

It was sad, cute and romantic. Lots of action and had the whole fight between good and evil going on and the growing feelings developing between Patrick and Kate. But this was all predictable and the outcome was predictable. Good writing and concept and everything but nothing like I haven't read before.

It had the same problems. Guardians don't age. Humans do. Plus seers who are gifted with the sight and are therefore able to see the auras and define demons from guardians don't have a choice to become a guardian but just go straight to heaven.
Hence why their relationship seems pointless.

But this doesn't stop them from falling for EACHOTHER. So..

Excellent! - Paranormal Fiction is a genre I really enjoy so I quickly volunteered for this book blog tour. I made the mistake of starting it on a Sunday afternoon, and ended up missing my "weekly nap" :O). Then I had to force myself on 2 different nights to go to bed between 1:30 am & 2:30 a.m. and was pretty "groggy" the following days, but it was worth the read and loss of sleep. The story obviously kept me engaged, and I liked the characters Heather developed. I especially enjoyed the comic relief from Kate's best friend, Lee, (with her current Gothic fashion phase) and Patrick's trainee, Tony, (who he's been training for over 20 years and still has a long way to go). Seers will be enjoyed by Young Adults and Adults alike.

I received the second book in this series from Net Galley to review, but I hadn't read this one yet, and I don't read out of order! So I put this one right to the top of my list, and I'm so glad I did!

Blurb from Goodreads:

For Kate Bennet, surviving the car wreck that killed her parents means big changes and even bigger problems. As she begins to see auras and invisible people, Kate must learn to trust Patrick O'Donnell, a handsome Guardian, or risk her life being overrun with Demons. She soon realizes that both she and her heart are in big-time trouble.

Cover:
I like the cover well enough. I actually don't think it does the story justice, to be honest. There is so much that could be done with the theme of the book. The color is beautiful, but I just don't get a sense of what the story is about at all. And even after having read the book, the cover doesn't make much sense to me. But it's still pretty, nonetheless.

Characters:
The characters in this book are very well developed. They definitely took on all their own personalities and it was easy to tell them all apart. I really was able to connect with them
Kate, the main female character, really does strike me as an actual teenage girl. She is mourning the loss of her parents and you can totally feel that from her. I love how she grows through this book, really coming into herself, despite any fears she might face. And I love that she is so loyal to people, especially her boyfriend Aaron, despite the fact that she truly doesn't want to be with him anymore. She seems quite un-selfish and deeply cares for those she loves: her sisters, her grandparents, Aaron, Lee. She is strong and resilient, smart and quick.
Patrick is just an awesome character. He's smart, funny and handsome, great qualities for a main male lead. I love how he is so protective of Kate and how he respects her wishes. Their connection is, of course, fairly immediate, but not quite insta-love, which is a nice change to see in a YA book. The author takes her time developing their relationship, letting them learn about one another
Aaron just annoyed me. He cares for Kate, but at the same time comes off as being totally selfish, while she is so unselfish when it comes to him. Lee is just an awesome best friend. She gives Kate the space she needs while still supporting her. She also helps her realize the direction she needs to go when Kate is confused. Jenna and Josie, Kate's younger twiin sisters, are definitely those annoying younger sisters. Yet Kate tolerates them so well. They are cute with their bickering.
Grandma is sweet and protective.
Grandpa, well, he just rocks. He is very supportive of Kate and really helps her to try and make the best choices she can.
And Toni, well, I just loved him. I think by far he is my favorite. He is so funny and quick witted. There was not way not to like him. Every interaction he has leaves you wanting more.
The other ancillary characters are nice. They are essential to the story in the way they help Patrick and Kate. There is not really a need for them to be more well developed at this point, unless they are going to be re-introduced in a major role in future books. The evil characters were hard to gauge. I didn't get much of a sense of them or what exactly they were about. I did see that they were just evil, and that was enough for this part of the series.

The Story line:
I love the paranormal aspects of this story. I have not really read any stories with guardians and seers, so this was new for me. I like how they work together to get the "bad guys." And the plot was not compacted, so it was easy to follow.
The pace of the story is nice. I found myself constantly wanting more and had a hard time putting it down when I had to do other things. There is just the right amount of action to sustain you until more happens. I like that it is not overpowering. I also loved how the author focused on growing the relationships between the characters. This seemed like such an important part of the story to me.
The romance aspect of this story is very sweet. I love how Kate struggles with her feelings for Patrick, but really does understand what is right and what is not seeing as she has a boyfriend already. Again, they take their time getting to know one another and let their feelings for each other grow.
One of the things that I disliked was how the author used POV in this book. It was not consistent. When the POV changed, it took me a bit to realize that it was a different character talking. I would have preferred more from Patrick's POV, as well. I'm not sure if we'll see that in the next book or not, but that would be nice. Perhaps chapter sub-headings would have helped me with this confusion. Certainly there is not necessarily the need to alternate each chapter with different POVs, but I just felt like that aspect of the story telling was lacking.

I commend the author on her storytelling. The language of the book was very good and not confusing at all. It flowed well from one sentence to the next. She did not overuse words or make you feel like she was trying to use words just to "beef" the story up. The story did not need that, anyway. The writing of this book does not make me think it was Frost's debut novel. She has a wonderful command of the English language.

I am looking forward to reading the next installment in this series! 4 out of 5 stars from me.

I never cheat while reading books and stay away from the last pages until I am officially at the end. This time I got to a point of needing some answers, though. I have read too many books lately that turned into book series which I wasn’t expecting or even ended in a way that caught me off guard. So I checked Amazon to find out if this was a standalone book or a continuation story and whether the blurbs and reviews would ease my mind enough to keep reading. I found out what I needed to know and am at peace to continue reading. 😉 The story captured me from the beginning and I hated it whenever I had to stop reading. I loved the slowly developing love story, but it also had plenty of mystery, drama, suspense and even heartbreak. It is a clean exciting read and I didn’t want to put it down. I am excited to read book two next. 😬

I wanted to like this book more, but my rating had to be brought down because of the similarities between this book and Evermore (if I hadn't already read Evermore, I think I would have given this book a 4 or 4.5). It's not exactly the same by any means, but a lot of the details and/or ideas are very much like it.

Similarities include:

1 - The first thing we learn is that our protagonist, Kate, has been in a deathly car accident, and her parents died as a result, so:

2 - She lives with other family members. Instead of an aunt though, it's grandparents.

3 - After this accident in which she nearly dies, she can see auras; Colors surrounding people, colors which convey their emotions and feelings.

4 - She has a peppy BFF, Lee, that happens to "change clothing styles" very frequently. She is very much like Haven from Evermore. VERY!

5 - One day a strange new guy shows up at school, and guess what? You guessed it: she can't see his colors (or aura), except for a very small silver outline. This is our love interest, and his name is Patrick.

6 - Then, a little less obvious - Patrick is a Guardian, a dead person that has chosen to guard Seers (a Seer is what Kate is now that she can see auras) instead of going to "Heaven". Guardians are immortal, and Patrick has been around for hundreds of years.

We also have a "higher" plane of existence that sort of separates Earth from "Heaven" - which reminds me of Summerland from Evermore. We don't get to visit there, but the way it's described reminds me way too much of Summerland.

I am not saying that having an aura-seeing protagonist, dead parents, a peppy BFF who changes her style weekly, an immortal love interest whose been alive for hundreds of years, a higher plane of existence, OR our protagonist magically not being able to see a mysterious new guys' aura is bad. Ideas can be similar, sure. Things can remind you of another book. No prob there...but all of it combined, yeah. I am sorry, but that screams copycat to me. :/

NOW, onto other things.

Once you get past all these similarities to another book - it does get interesting!

Kate is trying to get through her daily teen life, deal with seeing auras, deal with the loss of her parents, a possessive and annoying boyfriend, etc. Then Patrick shows up and turns her life upside down. Not only does he make her heart go pitter-patter (although she is in fierce denial at first) - but he has a crazy story to tell. He's a Guardian, and he's basically there to protect her from Demons. Demons are naughty folks who've died and served time in some sort of otherworldly prison. Once the people they have wronged in life are dead - they are set free. It's never explained why they are set free, which irks me. BUT, they are - and I imagine it is to see if they can reform, but they obviously don't. Instead they decided to go torturing helpless humans, etc., etc.

The Guardians are supposed to stop them, put them in line, kill them if necessary, etc., etc. The issue is though, that only Seers can interpret who is a Guardian, Demon, or regular human. Guardians have a special aura, as do Demons. Humans have the colorful ones that convey their emotions.

So, we have all of this Demon hunting going down, plus a lot of angsty teenage things.

I liked the Guardian, Seer, Demon thing. I really did. The idea is really great and Frost throws some super amazing plot twists in there. I mean, her plot twists rock, seriously.

The thing I hated was the amount of angst. First of all, realistically, Kate shouldn't be so "calm" about her new gift. I mean, we learn that she mentions it when it first happens, but then lies and says it went away. Really? Unrealistic! That would never happen. I am sorry. Then we have the boyfriend Aaron. Lord, I wanted to slap Kate around. Aaron seemed like a regular guy, sweet at times, impatient and/or possessive and/or annoying here and there... but overall, he seemed like he was trying really hard to please Kate. All Kate wanted to do was blow him off for Patrick and roll her eyes at him every two seconds. Poor Aaron! I really felt for this kid. He got the crap-end of the stick, that's for sure. SO - As a result of the love triangle, there was way too much angst going on. I mean, what teen with super aura-seeing abilities and Demons knockin' at the back door would be worried about boyfriend issues? Eh?

Overall, the plot was definitely interesting. As I said, the plot twists were jaw-drop worthy, and I enjoyed the overall idea of Guardians and Seers vs. Demons. Rawr! The similarities between this and Evermore, plus the angst was what did it in for me. I liked it, and I would recommend it - but only if you haven't read Evermore. 'Cause one of two things will happen. Either, A - you will hate it because you hated Evermore. Or, B - you will be annoyed by it because you liked Evermore and this book has too many copycat-esque similarities to it.

At the end there seems to be an opening for a second book. I will read it if one comes out. I am definitely interested in what happens next. :)

After surviving a car crash that killed her parents Kate has to face big changes in her life. Bigger than anyone could imagine or begin to understand. Since the accident Kate has been able to see Aura's, she tried to explain in hospital, but it seemed like everyone thought she was going mad. So Kate kept quiet about it, and now only her best friend knows what Kate see's. Kate had just about got used to seeing the aura's when she starts seeing people no one else can see! A new bot has arrived at school too called Patrick. Patrick has the same silver aura that the "invisible to others" people have. What does it mean? Why does she feel so edgy and uncomfortable around Patrick? Who are the "invisible" people? What does it all mean? Why her?

Wow what a brilliant book. This book has two guardians, Patrick and Toni, who really are not the typical image you would have for a guardian angel. I loved the descriptions in this book and the concept of a choice when you die, you can go to heaven and be the "perfect" age of 25 forever with your loved ones that have passed before you. Or you can become a guardian and remain the age you were when you died and watch over all those humans on earth. I also loved the idea of when children die young that they stay that same age until there parents are with them, then the parents get to bring them up in heaven. What a heart string tugging concept, I certainly got a lump in my throat when I read that part. There also are hidden moral messages in the book if you choose to see them. For example when Patrick, and Kate and Lee sit with the "Special Ed Kids" on there usually isolated table. The way the Special Ed kids interact with Kate and the simpler outlook on life these kids have which Kate can see from their auras. I think the hidden moral there is don't ignore or write them off just because the appear different. As the book progresses poor Kate is trying to lead two lives and keep them as separate as she can, on one life she has Aaron, her grandparents, and her sisters. Kate finds it difficult to lie to her grandparents, especially her grandfather who seems to be able to read her feelings and moods so well. The other life she is leading is the one she is drawn into whether she wishes it or not with Patrick and Toni. There really is so much going on as well as everything else Kate comes to a difficult conclusion that the feelings she has for Aaron are no longer the love she used to feel for him. I found the book quite fast paced in places but it was still easy to follow. The way it swaps and is told from Kates point of view and then Patrick's point of view is really good too because you are able to get their individual reactions to the same situations. Finally the epilogue at the end is genius as it sets the scene for a book two and really makes you want to read more. So when is book two out? Seers by Heather Frost is out 03/10/11 (I obtained my ebook copy from netgalley) I will be doing an arc copy giveaway around 01/09/11

Seers has is a really good paranormal read mixed with a great romance, and a some really fun characters that I enjoyed meeting. I really liked the way Heather starts off her story. The prologue is what really grabbed my attention and I wanted to know more of Patrick's story.

I liked the way Heather developed the relationship between Kate and Patrick. It felt realistic to me and it wasn't one of those insta-love ones. Don't get me wrong, they definitely were drawn to each other, and they had great chemistry. I like that Heather made me wait for their relationship to develop into something and more and she does at great job at drawing that out over the course of the book. That was also in part to the fact that Kate was already in a relationship with Aaron. Their relationship really reminded of what it's like to have that "first love". They both truly loved each other, they've been through a lot together, but it seemed obvious to me that they stayed together out of connivance more than love. They weren't in love, but they loved each other and just sort of stayed together just because. That made Kate's wrestling with her feelings for Aaron through out most of the story relatable. My only compliant is I felt that it took to long for Kate to realize her true feelings for both Aaron and Patrick. I felt that in dragging out her struggles with coming to terms with what was happening between her and Aaron took a little something away from the story for me.

I really liked the paranormal element with guardians, demons and Kate's ability to see people's auras and know how they're feeling. I enjoyed getting to know and reading about some of the characters that are apart of Kate's life. I felt that each character added something to the story and played a part in bringing the storyline to life, and Heather even throws in a couple good twists with some of them. I had hoped to feel some sort of connection with them and sadly I didn't. I think some of that was due to feeling that the story at times focused more on descriptions of things vs the characters. That's not saying the story itself wasn't good, because it was. I liked the friendships and the family dynamics, but I personally needed more of a connection with Kate and her friends to really love the story.

Seers is a good debut. It's a fast paced, clean cut, fun read. As I said before, I liked the paranormal elements in it and I think Heather does a good job at using Seers to set up the rest of her series. I'm really looking forward to reading what Heather has in store for Kate, Patrick and the rest of the cast as the series continues. I'd recommend for YA readers 12 years old and older.

Here I am, in front of my laptop thinking: "how can I tell them all how good this book is?!" Well, I'm sure whatever I do is not going to be enough. True to be told this is not my first book with the "guardian/demon" theme but it certainly is one of the books that I enjoyed the most.

The story goes like this: Kate had suffered a lot since the death of her parents in a car crash in which she survived. After that she and her sister moved into their grandparent's house and thankfully their relationship with them is very warm. Specially with her grandad, he is one of the coolest grandad I've read about! Kudos for that, I truly think that the grandparent figure it's being missing in the books lately.

Shortly after the car accident Kate discovers that something has changed: now she can see auras, colors surrounding people depending on how are they feeling. Shocked at first the only thing left to do is try to get used to it since telling people at the hospital only managed to make her look like she was going crazy...

Fortunately she has a good best friend. A real good best friend that believes her and gives her moral support without questioning her.

And then everything changes... A new boy arrives to her school, Patrick, and there's something weird about the color of his aura: it's silver, like the people nobody, except from her, can see. With him she learns that she is now a "seer", a person suposed to help Guardians (good side) or Demons (obviously bad side xD).

And, of course, we also have the romantic side of this book which I really enjoyed but was a little sad at the same time. Why you ask? Well, Kate has a very good and caring boyfriend that tries to be there if she needs something but, sadly, Kate is no longer in love with him and, believe me, she tries very hard to make their relationship work.
Of course at the end Patrick wins a spot in her heart and she understands that she doesn't want to lie to her boyfriend - and to herself- anymore.

In my opinion, Heather Frost wrote an exceptional debut novel. The story is entertaining, the way we can see the story from Kate's and Patrick's eyes is also very well written and the book has some messages that are always good to read about.
Maybe I didn't like the cover too much at the beginning but in the end I understood the reason behind it, hehe.

Give it a try, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Kate Bennett is a high school student that survived A car crash that killed her parents. When she wakes up from the hospital afterwards she can see things that she had never seen before. She could see peoples auras. No one else saw the colors floating around that told Kate exactly how people were feeling and realizing that, she decides to never mention it again.

When Kate finally returns to school after the accident there is a new student, Patrick O’Donnell. There is something very different about Patrick though. Kate can’t see his aura. All she sees floating around Patrick is a simple silver thread. The only other person who’s aura she can’t see is her own, so she isn’t sure whether to find him dangerous or not.

When Kate sees Patrick talking to another mysterious person who lacks an aura, she begins to wonder who exactly Patrick O’Donnell is. Is he someone sent to harm her or was he sent to help her with her new found ability? After finally realizing Patrick wasn’t an evil person and he was actually a Guardian sent to protect her, Kate begins to have feelings for him.

Kate has the typical teenage problems such as falling for the new guy at school even though you already have a boyfriend, but she also has problems that no one else can understand. She’s being hunted down by beings with black auras around them…demons. Will Kate be able to figure out her feelings toward her Guardian while keeping herself safe from demons? Will Kate’s ability put her grandparents and sisters in danger?

I really enjoyed this book. Although this is Frost’s debut book, she has done an excellent job with it. Yes, there are other YA books out there about demons and such, but I found this one to have an original plot.

The only complaint I had was the abrupt switch to Patrick’s point of view for about two chapters. I realize that the author wanted to convey what was happening with Patrick while he wasn’t with Kate, but it just didn’t make any sense to only have two chapters of the entire book written in his point of view.

But overall, this was a great book. Although I haven’t heard anything talk of a sequel, the way the epilogue was written definitely leaves room for it and I will eagerly look forward to it.

Seers by Heather Frost
Kate changed after the car accident that killed her parents and it nearly killed her to. After that Kate life has been full of other people’s colours because she can see their auras. It’s like she can see everything that people are feeling but her life gets weirder when she starts seeing invisible people is she losing her mind or is this all real. Then Patrick O'Donnell walks into her life his different he has no aura just silver what’s going on and does Patrick hold the answers that Kate needs.

Kate’s life really is an interesting one from the start of the book you really got to see how Kate was feeling even though she was hiding it away from others. She is dealing with so much and it leaves you really caring for Kate. There is so much going on in her life since the death of her mum and dad her life seems to have been turned on its head. She seems auras but she has not told anyone but her best friend and the faceted she living with her grandparents and it’s taking a while to get used to all the changes. I loved that you got to see all this rather then rushing through into the action it built up and you felt just as on edge as the characters. Then Patrick walks into her life and while she does not trust him she feels that he holds the answers to her problem. Kate soon see’s the true changes that are really happening around her. Her life is in great danger along with the ones she loves.

The book was a mix of highs and lows for the characters. The author really let’s you get to know the characters not only that the story is not rushed and over explained it’s simply and honest. I’m not normal into loved up stories but in this book there was a balance of hard action and romance that was not over done. You could relate to the pain that Kate was going through and the new confusion in her life. The faceted she no longer felt the same way she did before.
I really did fall in love with the story it’s so easy to be sucked into the book and most of all it just a breath taking story the author put together.

I gave the book 4 stars and recommend others read the book.

I read the description of Seers and immediately requested it from netgalley. It has a lot of things I find interesting in it, auras, seers, guardians and was lucky to get accepted. It has taken a while to get to this but I have managed to finish it in one sitting, I didn't want to stop or put it down.

Seers is about a girl called Kate, who survived a car wreck that killed her parents. She now live with her Grandparents and two sisters. But now she has a gift, she can see the auras of people around her but is too afraid to tell anyone about it, except her best friend Lee. We follow Kate as she learns more about her gift and why the guardians are there.

Seers is a great read. It kept me captivated from the minute I started it and could not put it down. The story never gets too complicated to follow or too slow, and has just the right amount of things going on to keep me interested. I loved the different personalities of the characters and how they all blended together to make an interesting mix of people.

I liked how after having this life changing experience, Kate's life isn't the same, even down to the relationship with her boyfriend, and after Patrick comes on the scene, it is only made more obvious that her relationship with Aaron isn't going anywhere, not matter how hard she tries to keep things normal. Although I have to admit that I thought Aaron was selfish for expecting things to jump right back like nothing had changed, and didn't like his attitude towards Kate when things didn't go according to his plan. I really like how Lee stood by Kate like a true best friend and although she knew about Kate's gift, didn't change how she acted around her, in fact she helped Kate see the truth.

My favourite character has to be Toni, he had me laughing whenever he was involved with the storyline, and even though some of things he did we illegal, the reasons why he did things had me laughing.

Heather Frost has managed to create a world that has the ability to draw you in and not let you go till you have finished and I am really looking forward to finding out what happens next when the next book is out.

WOW! What an amazing debut for Heather Frost. I cannot believe how well written and intriguing this book is. From start to finish I could not put it down. The characters are believable and lovable, I felt for them the whole story through.
The romance is perfect. Not gushy and so well written!
"My eyes fell on the newcomer, standing almost awkwardly in the open doorway. A broad shoulder kept the door propped open, and a long-fingered hand curled around one strap of his bag, keeping it from sliding off his shoulder. He wore a light blue button-up shirt, sleeves rolled to the elbows. He had beautiful skin- not white, but definitely not tanned. His eyes were pure blue, and surprisingly penetrating. His jaw was perfectly sculpted, and his high cheekbones were prominent and strong. His nose was long, and dark brown hair curled onto his forehead. His pale-but-not-pale skin was covered with a very light dusting of freckles."
Our main character "Kate" notices all of this while sitting next to her boyfriend, Aaron. "I could feel Aaron's eyes on my face, though, and I knew I needed to stop openly appreciating the new guy."
Just love this book! A new favorite for sure!

I am so bummed beacause I just realized this book was written in 2011 which means I have no idea when the next one will come out. It is a trilogy. All I can say is, "PLEASE HURRY!"

Seers definitely gets five stars from me!

Seers is about a girl named Kate who survives an accident, but her parents don't. She's left living with her grandparents (which are the cutest things EVER) and her twin sisters. But that's not all, Kate can see auras and she has a best friend who knows this secret (I don't know how I would ever bring this up to another human being). She also has a boyfriend (who I personally think is a douchebag) and she's trying her best to get her life back on track.

Seers kinda feels like de ja vu, doesn't it? And at first I felt that way, until Patrick comes strolling in. Mysterious, handsome, what-the-heck-is-he-doing-here (because we met him in the first chapter) Patrick. But Patrick wasn't just mysterious in the fact that Kate didn't understand why he was there, but it's a mystery for the readers too because... what the heck happened to you Patrick?! Along with Patrick, you get Toni. Ah, Toni... misbehaved, hilarious and just *sigh*. I reallyyy liked Toni. He was the humor, and he's horrible at following rules.

Seers took me by complete surprised, I thought I was in for a familiar ride but I was wrong. Kate does a pretty good job of handling herself even though she doesn't really know what she's doing. The concept of the guardians was an intriguing one, just like Kate, I was eating up everything Patrick had to tell about his experience and what this all was. And Kate's grandpa? He totally kicks butt, I LOVE him! Finally a story where the adults are present and a pleasure to be around!

While I did love the characters and I really liked the plot, for some reason I didn't LOVE this novel. I really wanted to, but I just didn't. I am completely looking forward to the next novel though!

Summary:
For Kate Bennett, surviving the car wreck that killed her parents means big changes — and even bigger problems. As she begins to see auras and invisible people, Kate must learn to trust Patrick O'Donnell, a handsome Guardian, or risk her life being overrun with Demons. She soon realizes that both she and her heart are in big-time trouble.

Review:
This book was a real challenge to finish. One of those books that I had to constantly force myself to go back to rather than move on to another book. It wasn’t that it was really awful either, just….boring! The plot while somewhat original in the paranormal genre, just dragged along. The writing wasn’t awful, but nothing to write home about, just dry. I didn’t like or connect with any of the characters. Kate, our heroine, was annoying, whiny and just plain unlikeable. Patrick, our hero, when first introduced was just kind of creepy and I couldn’t shake that feeling for him for the rest of the novel. And ZERO chemistry between the two of them! I had no idea why they had any feelings for each other at all, and by the end I’m supposed to believe they’re in love?? NOT! The side characters were all pretty much annoying as well. We have the “sidekick” Tony, who is one of those characters that’s supposed to be oh so funny and I didn’t even chuckle….sorry. The female villain is so over the top ridiculous that I could imagine her doing the Wicked Witch of the East laugh/cackle. And then there’s Grandpa, who towards the end has a surprise reveal. SO lame, unrealistic and predicitable. I’m afraid I just did not enjoy this book at all and couldn’t care less what happens in future books….done with this series.

Seers was a fabulous new take on paranormal YA. It is a very difficult to create an original story in a genre over-run with paranormal beings, yet the author has done just this.

Our protagonist, Kate, leads us through the story. She was a very sympathetic character and one I feel a lot of young people could identify with. Kate faces a daily struggle of keeping up appearances, making sure the mask that covers the grief she sometimes finds overbearing, doesn’t slip.

When Kate meets hot, Irish, transfer student, Patrick, her carefully maintained world stars to crack and crumble around her. As her feelings for Patrick grow, she cannot ignore what has been missing in her relationship with Aaron.

But it isn’t just boy drama Kate has to deal with. Nope. She has the added complication of being a seer – a human with the ability to read auras. This makes her the subsequent target of Demons. Good thing for Kate she has a guardian or two watching her back.

The author keeps the tension up to the limits, making the reader ache to race through the pages to find out what will happen next. The action in Seers is incredible with immortal battles and an act that threatens to further rip Kate’s fragile family apart.

Seers was an enjoyable story and I could not put it down. The only thing I found distracting was the sudden POV shift from Kate to Patrick. I enjoy split POV novels, but Patrick’s chapter seemed to come out of nowhere and I found myself tripping a little to get back into the story. That said, Patrick’s eyes are nice to look through.

This book is perfect for any action, YA, paranormal or romance lover. Something for everyone!
