- 90 hatches including mayflies, stoneflies, caddisflies, midges, and terrestrials - Both stillwater and creek, stream, and river hatches - Color photos, key features, habitat, hatch times, and fishing hints for each insect - 169 fly patterns - Washington, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Wyoming, California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, British Columbia, and Alberta
It's tricky to review a specific reference book! I'm a beginning fly fisher in Montana who desperately needed this EXACT guide. Everything about it is useful...the great photos, the examples of the matching flies, the descriptions of where and when the hatches generally occur and how to fish them...brilliant. And written with confidence AND humor, never condescending. I just wish it was printed on waterproof "paper" and had a soft cover so it would truly fit in a pocket of my vest, but one can't have EVERYTHING, right?
