When magazine writer Kate Donovan is assigned to profile the building and architectural firm of her first and only love, she heads back to the South Carolina Low Country to face the demons she left behind. Nothing about Danny Flannery’s life is what Kate thought it would be, and as the truth is revealed she longs for a big fat do-over. Danny’s made a success of his building firm but is hesitant to participate in a flashy magazine spread. He’s dead-set against it when he realizes the journalist sent to interview him is the only woman he’s ever loved and lost. Under pressure from his business partner, Danny agrees to sit down for an interview with the girl he once knew as Kat Fordham and realizes her name isn’t the only thing that’s changed. Everything he thought was true about the past is a lie. When Danny discovers Kate still wears the heart shaped sea glass necklace he made for her years ago, they clear the air and their passion reignites. But Kate’s still keeping secrets to protect their fragile new relationship. With her family estranged and her career on the line, will she come clean before Danny finds out the truth, and can Danny risk his heart again for the only woman he’s ever loved?

This romance has all my favorite elements. Kate and Danny meet when they are younger and fall in love, but as things tends to happen. It looks like it isn't meant to be. Not only does Kate lose Danny but everything she has ever known turns out to be a lie. Six years later, Kate returns to Low Country for her job. While she wants to complete her assignment and get back to D.C. Danny isn't making it easy. But Kate's still keeping secrets. With her family estranged and her career on the line, will she come clean before Danny finds out the truth, and can Danny risk his heart again for the only woman he's ever loved?

I really really enjoyed this read. Though there is kind of a quick start to Kate and Danny's romance when they are kids, I love that it didn't work out for various reasons. I know that sounds horrible but it seems more realistic. There was so much more to this story than the romance and it really took me by surprise. Although things end in the fashion that I like, surprisingly things aren't wrapped up neatly in a perfect bow. This book is awesome because Ms. Hayes really just got everything right. The timing, interchange between the characters, and character reactions just seem right on. These characters acted the way that real people would and I loved it. While I thought the flashback portion of the book was too long and not as interesting, I can understand that without it, the characters and their circumstances wouldn't have been as well-developed.

Read this is you enjoy a great contemporary romance that doesn't make you roll your eyes (although I like those at times too).

This was an absolutely amazing read! You need to put down your current book, RUN to your computer & buy this spectacular story by Christy Hayes. Not since reading Pamela Clare’s I-Team series, have I found a Romantic/Suspense genre book that evoked such emotions as Heart of Glass. It has landed a firm spot on my Favorite Books of 2011 list.

Kate & Danny's love story is simply breathtaking. The story was SO realistic & felt so genuine that I got butterflies when they met, cried like a baby when she had to leave him & cheered when she found her way back. It was almost as if I was the one experiencing all of the ups & downs within the story & not the fictional characters. I even wanted to go into the pages & bitch-slap her sister Julia a time or two.

What I found so refreshing however, was that Danny wasn't just up & ready to take Kate back no questions asked. More often times than not, in the romance genre, problems are solved in the blink of a few pages. All issues are forgiven easily and everyone is happy go lucky and we all go riding off into the sunset. Well, I think since we all live in the real world, we know that almost NEVER happens. What was great about this story is that when Kate returns, Danny is skeptical (as he very well should be) and he guards his heart. Yes he still loves her but he realizes that sometimes that is not enough. She has to prove her trust-worthiness & love. It is a very hard road for him & her both to travel but it is a very powerful story. A story of finding your way back to someone when trust & love have been fractured but is still worth mending.

I really liked this story Kat/Kate was a great character as was Danny, I loved reading the first half about how they met, got together etc. the second half was good also, however I started to feel very sorry for Kate. She explains to Danny that she left to help him but she's still portrayed as the 'baddie'. Having to deal with leaving Danny and then discovering that her sister, who brought her up is actually her mother! Kate goes through some hard times. After the reunion and then the revelation that she was proposed to (but did not answer) from her boss, she is again seen as some horrible monster. I got really emotional at this part of the book as she was losing everything she had and loved. I thought it was horrible that Danny sent her away I felt like he needed a good kick up the patootie, making Kate believe that everything was ok with them and then sending her away as some sort of revenge, I don't think this portrayed Danny as a good person. However the fairy tale 'I've come to get you and take you back ending' I loved and was a good end to the book, but if I was Kate I would still seriously kick his ass.

I don't read regular romance novels much anymore. Maybe I'm jaded, maybe I'm jealous of the happy endings. But the author, Christy Hayes contacted me and asked me to review Heart of Glass and she was so nice, I agreed. I'm glad I did.

Yes, you could say this is a fairly typical romance story. There's a troubled past, they split, find each other again years later and each fight the same feelings. The difference with this story is in the writing. Christy Hayes writes beautifully, I could feel the salty beach air on my cheeks, my heart ached for Kat and Danny. Sometimes, I even wanted to smack them to get them to wake up and smell the love!

If you're a romance reader, don't hesitate to grab this one and give it a read!

What a great book! It had the right amount of twists and turns (like when she finds out the truth about Julie) and the right amount of angst. I fell in love with Danny right along with Kat. The characters were well developed and I felt like I was right there for their courtship, their pain and then their reconciliation. An absolutely amazing love story! I'm glad I stumbled upon this book while searching for books to read in the Nook store. I'm off to read Phillips story. Hopefully I get a glimpse into Danny and Kates life post reconciliation. :)

i love this book. it made me cry a bit. Kate's mom/sister was ridiculous. i didn't see the point in lying about relation to Kate and in the end it didn't natter any way because her husband got tired of the snooty trophy wife routine in order to blend in. Kate leaving had it pros and cons. if she hadn't left Danny wouldn't have lost the deal with Peters but since she did that made him push himself harder to do a good job for him, his father, and his brother. i cried when he let her go and she sent back thenecklace he made for her. I'm so glad they made it.

This was a good story, somewhat predictable, but that was ok. It kept me interested, had emotional highs and lows. All in all a good read.

Beautiful cover, isn’t it? It’s delicate, and haunting, don’t you think so?
The short review of this book is this: . Now, for the longer version…:D

This was one of the books that I read for Dewey’s 24h Read-a-Thon, and I loved it the most out of the rest of my reads. It was awesome.

The plot is rather special for a romance novel; it’s very realistic, a trait not that often found in romance, from what I’ve read. Of course, that might as well mean I just stumbled upon the fantasy-romance kind more then other people, but, you know. So this is a very realistic story, and it’s got that awesomeness that only such realistic stories give off. I didn’t feel like I read a romance novel once I was done reading this book, I felt like a friend of mine gave me the detailed version of her love story, you know? With those “gaaaah” moments and all the tension and those moments of “You’ve gotta be kidding me!” and all.
Awesome plot.

The writing style is the very fluent, easy to read sort. The pace of events is really nice too, it keeps you guessing and on the edge of your seat, without becoming overwhelming or confusing (as the case is with some uber-action-packed books).

But the forte of the book are the characters. I just loved them. Basically all of the meaningful characters are very strong, very well written, and they leave a very strong impression on you. I mean, Michael was so out of it and clueless he became adorable, and Kat’s “sister” (nope, I’m not telling you why the ” “, read and find out for yourself :P) I just wanted to choke and then store in the freezer. That was too blunt, wasn’t it? Ah, well…what I meant was, Kat’s “sister” was…lovely.

Danny is charismatic, and charming, and there’s an air about him, ever since he’s young, a confidence that just makes him crush-material. I mean, I may have crushed on him a little, and usually I crush on the bad guys, so that’s how charismatic he is. He’s not a bad boy, but he’s not running for sainthood either, and he’s so unrepentant that you just have to like him. Seriously, you have to. Kidding, kidding :P
Kate is a darling as well; she’s very angsty, and strong, sort of conflicted, and her life story is on the “wh0a!” side. I felt a strong connection to her, and I loved her attitude when she met Danny. She wasn’t a damsel in distress, even though she could have fit that role what with everything going on, and considering the dramatic situations she went through, she was pretty stoic and selfless. I admired her, though many of her brave acts were drama-generators, as it often happens in real life. Whenever the situation is very tense, and dramatic, and you decide to do something dramatic, my advice is take a big breath; double-check your facts, make sure you’ve got valid info, and get more sources of info. If you can’t do that, don’t go for the dramatic gesture, 9 times out of 10, you’ll just make it worse on yourself, and more pointedly, on others. That’s just an afterthought…

So, all things considered, I say read this. If you love contemporary romance, you’ve gotta read this. It’s just a fabulous book; if you’re wondering why I’m not raving my fangirlism, I’m just gonna come right out and say it: it takes a bigger person then me to pull off enthusiasm at 9°C – that’s how “hot” it is where I am. I’m wondering if the country was renamed “Romanian Pole” or something. Anyways, get this book, read it – you’ll love it.

Kat and Danny met while Kat worked a part time job during her summer living with her sister. These two fell fast and hard - and parted on very bad terms. Both are brokenhearted and have never really moved on in their love lives.

With a new name - Kate Donovan returns to that very place she met Danny all those years ago. Little does Danny know - she is the writer who will be interviewing him and his business partner. They clash and all those feeling are dredged back to the surface. Does she still love him? Can they make it work this time?

These two characters have such amazing chemistry! They have to overcome some pretty big obstacles and re-learn about one another. Kate has her own family issues to work through and Danny - well he has some problems of his own. Will they be able to get over those problems and fall in love again?

Anyone who loves contemporary romance, stories of lovers separated and brought back together will love this story. I wish I hadn't waited so long to read this - it was a fantastic read. Christy Hayes has written an amazing story and she has definitely earned a spot on my authors to watch for list.

Another wonderful read by this author. This is my third read by Christy Hayes, and as usual I love it! She has a wonderful way a setting the stage with an engaging storyline, relatable characters and subtle twist and turns in the plot that keep you glued to the story. The first part of the book gives us the history of this couple, Kat and Danny, and helps you understand the depth of their love and the sacrifices made for love and family. The second half is present day with the couple being brought together after 6 years and trying to work through all the hurt and pain and yes love from the past. I really loved this story and really did not want to see it end. I understand that we get to see a little more of this couple in The Sweetheart Hoax, so of course I just purchased it and can't wait to get started. Thanks Christy for your wonderful storytelling gift, and please keep them coming.

Wow!! What an amazing book this was! Kate is quite a girl. When her life is turned upside down, she doesn't give up. Her strength is inspiring. She manages to become a success despite everything, including a broken heart. Danny, uses his broken heart to become a success as well. His love for his family and his dedication to help his brother is truly touching. They were so good together once. Their story is both heart wrenching and heart warming. I wish there was more to their story. I don't want to let them go. I also loved Stephanie and her hubby. It'd be nice to hear their life from Their POV's.

OMG. What can I say about the first Christy Hayes book that I have read. Kate and Danny had me sitting on the edge of my seat. Talk about a roller coaster ride, I was just rooting for them to get their act together and make this relationship work. Their love was so strong at an early age their had to make it work. Julia was just another matter all together, I knew all along that she was Kate's mother after I knew she had a secret. I would have like to know if Kate spoke to her again and if Kate and Danny had any kids.

Many books about love being derailed by lies, secrets, or misunderstandings have been written. This is one of the smarter and more interesting ones I've read. Kate and Danny are both likable and relatable characters and the unfolding to allow readers to realize what went on before they met is nicely done. This is the second book I've read by the author and I'm looking forward to enjoying more of her work.

Young, successful and alone, these words describe both Kate Donovan and Daniel Flannery. Kate is a successful journalist and Daniel is a successful builder. They should be happy and enjoying life, but the past keeps intruding into the present in Heart of Glass by Christy Hayes.

Kate Donovan used to be known as Kat Fordham. She was spending the summer in South Carolina at the request of her sister, Julia. The intention was for her to be the unpaid nanny to her twin nieces. Kat didn't exactly fit Julia's idea of a well-bred young woman. Julia wanted Kat to hang out with people from the country club, wear the right clothes and be seen with the right people. Kat wanted to enjoy herself as much as possible and even got a job on the "wrong side of town" at a local bar. To make matters worse, she developed a friendship then a romantic relationship with one of the construction workers on Julia's new home, Daniel Flannery. Danny was definitely not Julia's idea of the right type of boyfriend.

Weeks pass and Julia forces Kat into making a heartbreaking decision, she either leaves Danny or Julia will see to it that Danny gets fired from his job and never has the opportunity to succeed with his green building ideas. Kat loves Danny but sees no way to protect him from her sister so she leaves.

Fast forward six years and now Kat Flannery is Kate Donovan. Kate has learned that her past was all a lie. Julia had deceived her for her entire life. Kate has broken ties with Julia and dedicates herself to her career as a journalist. Danny is now a partner in an eco-green building company and Kate has been assigned to write an article about their company. To say that sparks fly is a massive understatement. Will Kate be able to explain to Danny why she left? Will Danny be able to forgive Kate? Can they build a new relationship without trust even if there is love?

Heart of Glass is a fast-paced romantic read. Kate and Danny's relationships have their normal ups and downs. They have their misunderstandings, some small others huge, and ultimately must face an issue of trust. In this respect the story was very realistic. Julia Fordham is someone we despise for her actions and then pity because of the repercussions she suffers as a direct result of these actions. There are issues of deception, secrets, and trust at the core of this story and these are deftly woven to create a sensitive and romantic tale. If you're looking for a good romantic read, then Heart of Glass may just be the read for you.

3.75 Glass Heart stars that I'll gladly round to 4. Christy Hayes creates truly believable and realistic characters. They're flawed, annoying, endearing, and have some major issues. There's enough drama to keep things interesting, but not enough to be ridiculous.

Kat has a tragic past. Her parents were killed in a car accident and it was left to her older sister, Julia, to raise her. Julia never ever lets Kat forget the sacrifices that she has made for her. Julia is the ultimate snob and is bound and determined that Kat will only associate with the country club, trust-fund set. Kat isn't into that. She thinks her sister is ridiculous. Kat isn't impressed with the high life. Kat agreed to spending the summer in South Carolina as the nanny to Julia's two young daughters. Kat did not agree to devote her entire life and being to be at Julia's beck and call all summer long.

Danny is a local boy. Definitely not Julia's idea of suitable material for Kat to be seen with, much less casually dating. Danny is waaayyyy too common. The attraction and chemistry between Danny and Kat is instant and unstoppable. They didn't figure in Julia's determination to run Kat's life.

The story line is not unique in any way. It's the characters that make this book slightly different and keeps you reading and enjoying each page. Wait. I take that back. There is definitely one twist that you probably won't expect. Well, unless you're paying really close attention or you're a detail person.

I totally enjoyed this book except for one point...when Danny, who is so in love, throws Kate out without letting her explain and then when her explanation is given he still doesn't accept it...this was way out of character for him and I felt she needed to do alot worse for him to react like that....I would have liked to know more about Julia and more of her backstory too.

I must be getting old. I know Henry II was king by 21, but the 2 main characters in this book are hugely successful by their mid-twenties. And 2 more are married with their fourth child on the way. It just would have made more sense if everyone were 10 years older. Quite a lot of male angst. Interesting, but predictable. An okay beach book.
