This is a solid book for anyone interested in why folks stay at or leave a company. I had the pleasure of hearing Kevin speak in person and having now read the book, I can say the two are a complement. If you have the chance to hear Kevin speak, you should definitely take advantage of it, but also read the book. It's written for the layperson so it's a pretty quick read, but full of applicable and incredibly insightful stats and facts. I'm excited to share this book with my organization's leadership in order to start a conversation about how we can beef up our currently-pretty-cool culture into a Magnetic Culture.
Had one good chapter. The chapter on hiring. Also had another good principle told via an anecdote: if someone is not engaged replace them. Everything else was just fluff. I would not hire this guy to consult for me after reading this. So, it is bad even as a puff piece.
This book almost immediately captivated me; I could barely put it down. There are some books with titles like this that will be primarily anecdotes mixed with some lessons. This is the opposite. Tons of lessons, and some good stories too. I work in a field in which typical "building a better culture" books can be difficult to relate. But in this book, everything is absolutely practical. There is no reason why companies cannot build the magnetic culture that is described here, particularly with the lessons shared. Great read!
I just loved this book. Anyone who is even considering running a company should read this book. Great research-backed stats, easily digestible case studies and anecdotes, and he lays out those many tiny things you probably have never thought about but which contribute a lot to your office culture and, ultimately, to your bottom line.
Also, read this if you've experienced terrible management. It'll feel amazing just to read about what good management looks like.
One of the best book on Employee Engagement and Talent Management from an experienced practitioner who has been providing the service since 1995. The book is really motivating and practical, and is for anyone who wants to develop a Magnetic Culture to engage their employees and improve their bottom line in return.
Sheridan offers a straightforward analysis of an employee engagement model, supported with research and cases. Recommended for organizations and teams looking to improve their performance, teamwork, and relationships.
