"Perhaps this book will help people understand that terrorism needs to be uprooted, not just by trying to stop specific attacks, but also by choking the ideology behind them. Because by the time you catch one terrorist, fifteen others have been trained in his place. Likewise, disregarding terrorists because they're Hamas and not al-Qaeda, or PIJ instead of Hizballah, is a deadly mistake. These organizations carry different names, but they're all one and the same. Wherever terrorism exists, it must be uprooted."

A fascinating history of an Iraqi Jewish woman's hunt for the funding of terror, particularly in the U.S. and the obstacles our government (particularly the FBI) put in front of her. "Ours is a strange world indeed: we, the good people, have to hide, while terrorists enjoy all the freedoms of the West."

The story of an Iraqi Jewish girl who, as a child, escaped to Israel with her mother and siblings from the repression of Saddam Hussein's regime that affected her family. Her father died in a public execution, so the family had to go into hiding.
In the United States, where she went a few years later, she became one of the most valued experts in the field of counterterrorism, nevertheless her discoveries were not taken seriously, even though she risked her and her family's lives every day.
Who knows what would happened if she was treated seriously? Perhaps we could have prevented 9/11.

4,5 sterren - Nederlandse paperback

Great book. It was something scary to read that Al-Qaida is infriltrated in the governement and FBI and that they decided to fire an honest FBI agent instead of the 'bad guy'. This book is written in a way that the writer stays one step 'before' you. When you get confused with all the names, the writer always tells you where the name was mentioned earlier in the book. This helped a lot to see the similarities between different organisations and the terrorist who where mentioned. It's a scary thought that honest people and honest moslims donate money to organisations to help others without knowing they 'sponsor' al-Qaida.

Could not finish. The book has a astonishing start. The first chapter about author's life in Iraq is fascinating, almost like taken from a movie script. I eagerly waited for next parts. Unfortunately, the story falls down in following chapters. When Rita starts working in Middle East institute the riveting story turns into never ending list of names/organizations/translated articles that shortly makes no sense to the reader.
