In March 1941, Edith and Grace are work mates at the Myer Emporium in Adelaide, South Australia. Soon to turn twenty-one they decide to take a ten-day journey to Melbourne. They board a coach with ten other people and a driver and visit tourist locations en route to Melbourne and back. During the journey their relationship develops. It is tested in various situations as they find comfort in each other.
