Deborah Simmons is the author of twenty-five historical romances and novellas, published by Avon, Berkley, and Harlequin.

A native midwesterner, Simmons graduated cum laude from Wittenberg University and was a journalist before turning to fiction. Her first book, Heart's Masquerade, was published by Avon in 1989 and was followed by a number of Harlequin Historicals, including a USA Today Bestselling anthology. Her 2003 release, A Man of Many Talents, was a launch title for Berkley's Sensation imprint.

Two of her books have been finalists in the Romance Writers of America's annual RITA competition for excellence: The Gentleman Thief in 2001 and A Lady of Distinction in 2005.

Simmons has sold two million books in North America, and her work has been translated and published in twenty-four foreign countries, including illustrated editions in Japan. She is a member of RWA, Novelists Inc., and the Author's Guild.

I love this family of men! The de Burgh brothers are all unique, and each of their stories are turning out that way as well!

Taming the Wolf was Dunstan and Marion's story and is firmly planted on my "keeper shelf". The de Burgh Bride is Geoffery and Elene's story, and after reading hundreds of romance novels, I can say that I've never read one like this before!

Geoffrey draws the "short straw"...literally and is ordered by the king to wed "the Fitzhugh". Elene Fitzhugh is known for her violence, temper, and unkept appearance. She murdered her last husband on their wedding night, and men "fear for their lives" around her. I have to be honest, Simmons almost waits to long to bring this "lady" around. She is very unlikeable. Her temper is horrible, and she pouts, screams, tantrums, and acts like an unruly child for a great portion of the book. However, while you are "disliking" Elene, you are "falling" for Geoffrey. He is almost the "perfect man". I had many "ahahh" moments and wanted to shake Elene for not waking up to what was right before her own eyes....a husband like no other!

Their relationship...evolves. That is the only way I can describe it. It is gradual enough that it is made believable, and Geoffrey was Elene's ideal match. Had any of the other brothers wed her, this book may have been found in the "war" section...not the "romance" section.

This is a special and original treat!

Sweet romance with a beta H who was incredibly appealing even with his low key Alpha traits. Here was a man with patience and intelligence and who refused to believe the worst about his wife even when faced with an overwhelming amount of circumstantial evidence against her. I think every woman needs a man like him to choose them and choose to believe them over all others and against all odds.

h was a character I think most woman could relate to. Especially those who've suffered some trauma or hurt in their lives. She was a victim of cruelty and as a result had built up walls around her heart and mind - walls that the H tore down through gentleness and understanding. I liked how she gradually changed from a veritable shrew into soft, yielding lover for her man. The transformation was very well written and believable.

I liked this Taming of The Shrew style romance and while I have a weakness for alpha heroes, this was one Beta who made me swoon. He deserved his HEA and the h (much more than some of the asshat H's in romance land who do pitifully little to deserve the heroine). Four stars.

Tabi bizim efsane aile bu cadıya gidecek olan kurbana çöp çekerek karar verdiler 😂 Oyunu kaybeden Geoffrey ailedeki en aklı başında ve eğitimli kişi. Haliyle bu biraz önyargılı olmasına ve kendini ister istemez üstün görmesine neden olmuş. Kitap boyunca Mallory'nin püskürtmelerine ve ölüm tehditlerine gayet sakinlikle cevap veren mükemmel bir insan ya da Mallory'nin ona taktığı lakapla Aziz Geoffrey.
İlk kitapta ilk kocasını öldürmesini okuduktan sonra demiştim ki "Bu kızında bir hikayesi olmalı ve okumalıyım" demiştim. Şansıma 2. Kitaba bu şansa eriştik. Kitabı çok sevdim :) geoffrey en sevdiğim kardeşlerden biri olduğu için ayrı bir sevindim.
Serinin diğer kitaplarını okumak için sabırsızlandığım güzel ve tatlış bir seri.

Hate To Love 💘

The historical time period of this ADULT Romance💕 Novel is not stated, but I assume it is Medieval, because of the castles🏰 and knights🐺💪🔪.
This is a long book with an enemies to lovers 💘theme and a side plot of another enemy within the de Burgh castle🏰, either a servant or a trusted knight🐺💪🔪.

It was kind of interesting, although I got bored and skimmed towards the end when they had to confront the cardboard villain (whose identity was obvious).

However, I could not figure out Elene's appearance - for most of the book her hair is supposedly
a) completely uncombed (as in years and years worth of being uncombed)
b) unwashed for years and years
c) over three feet long (below her waist when finally combed out)
d) apparently hanging over her face like a veil the whole time

All of these details together just don't make sense - especially when it apparently takes Geoffrey the hero just several hours of patient combing to untangle it. In my experience, the only remedy for hair like that would be to shave it off! How could she get food into her mouth without getting most of it in her hair? How could she see anything? Wouldn't her scalp be itching like crazy, not to mention the fleas, lice and other creepy-crawlies inhabiting her hair? How could Geoffrey stand to look at it? I couldn't suspend my disbelief enough to accept any of this.

Uma história medieval antiga (lançada em 1998), e que ainda traz notas de romantismo, ainda que os tempos fossem tão duros.~
O rei exige de um dos DeBurgh se case com Elene Fitzhugh para acabar com as brigas entre vizinhos (lembrando que no livro anterior, o pai de Elene havia aprisionado o DeBurgh mais velho, e iniciado uma guerra).
E havia um enorme porém: Elene havia se casado antes (obrigada) e matara o marido na noite de núpcias. Nenhum dos irmãos DeBurgh queria ser a próxima vítima.
Mas decreto é decreto, e os irmãos tiraram a sorte no palitinho (literalmente).

Geoffrey, o irmão mais erudito, acabou sendo o escolhido.

Elene era uma selvagem. Usava roupas marrons, não parecia se banhar, e seus cabelos eram longos demais - do tipo demais mesmo, sendo usados como um escudo. Além disso, ela estava sempre armada com punhais, e suas ameaças verbais metiam medo em muitos homens.
Obrigada pelo rei a se casar, ela não tornaria a vida de Geoffrey fácil.

Focado em tornar o castelo habitável (estava entregue às baratas porque o antigo dono parecia só ter interesse em guerrear), as despensas estavam praticamente vazias, não havia muito plantio e os cofres, dilapidados. Geoffrey passava o dia vistoriando tudo e tentando ganhar a confiança de seu novo povo.
No entanto, alguém não o queria lá, e ameaças começaram a surgir, o que levou o povo a achar que Elene estava por trás de tudo aquilo, afinal, ela era uma "bruxa"!
Geoffrey não via a esposa dessa forma, e seu jeito controlado ao tratá-la (ao contrário do que ela esperava dele, e até o provocava) fez com que aos poucos ela baixasse a guarda perto dele. E então, o verdadeiro inimigo surge.

É um slow burn, confiança sendo adquirida paulatinamente, apesar de todas as pistas indicarem que um não suportava o outro.
As cenas íntimas não são tão pesadas, privilegiando o romantismo.
Para mim, uma obra de arte, que se tornou um clássico, assim como outro livro da autora, Bodas de Fogo

Mallory Fitzhugh ilk kocasını gerdek gecesinde kalbinden hançerleyerek öldürmüştü..Vahşi ve cahil bir kadındı...Babası ona hiç değer vermemişti..Sadece babasımı çevresindeki insanların tümü neredeyse..Kral onu bağışlamıştı..Ama o dönemlerde kadınlar kendi mülklerine sahip çıkamıyordu..BAbası öldükten sonra Kralın emri ile tekrar evlenmesi gerekiyordu..
Hemde aralarında kan davası olan bir ailenin oğlu ile..O olmasa başkası ile evlendirilecekti..
Geoffrer De Burgh kardeşleri arasında en bilgili,aklı selim kişidi..Mallory ile evlenmek çekilen kura da ona düşmüştü..
Ailesinin selameti için bunu yapacaktı...Evleneceği kadın daha önceden gerdek gecesi başka bir erkeği öldürmüş olsa bile ailesi için bu fedakarlığa girişecekti..

Vee evlendiler..başından itibaren çok sıra dışı bir evlilikti..Evliliklerinin ilk gecesi Geoffrey canını korumak için tetikte uyumuştu..Çünkü karısı vahşi bir kedi gibiydi..Ama zamanla birbirlerini tanıdıkça birbirlerine güvenmeyi,konuşmayı,anlamayı öğrendiler..Özellikle Geoffrey'in engin sabrı ile birbirlerinin arasında yakınlaşma da doğmaya başladı..Tüm evreleri yavaş yavaş emin adımlarla geçmeleri.birbirlerine alışmaları..Çok anlamlıydı....

Mallory başta onun öldürürse yine başkası ile evleneceğinden korkuyordu..Ama zamanla kocasına güvenmeye başladı..Zamanlada sevmeye..
Özellikle Geoffrey'in Mallor'nin saçlarını tarama sahnesi çok anlamlı,duygusal,baştan çıkarıcıydı..
De Burgh ailesi ilgi çekiçiydi..Sanırım bu ailenin diğer fertlerini de okuyacağız..
Aldığım duyumlara göre de Temmuz Ayında serinin ikinci kitabı geliyormuş:)))

Kitap hoştu ama ilkinden daha güzel bulamadım malesef. Dunstan tam sevdiğim tipte bir karakterken Geoffrey benim tarzımın dışında bir karakterdi. Fazla sabırlı, alttan alan, iyimser ve bağışlayıcı. Böyle pamuk gibi bir adama da böylesine şirret bir kadın rastlar zaten! Kitabın yarısından fazlasına kadar oğlum sen bu belaya nasıl bulaştın, böyle bir kaderi hak edecek ne günah işledin dedim durdum kendime.

Mallory'i ise bir kaşık suda boğsam yeriydi. Tamam tamam, diyeceksiniz kızın sebepleri vardı. Evet, vardı ama bu kitabın yarısına kadar kızı boğma isteğimi gideremedi malesef. Sonrada kıza sempati duymaya başlasamda bence yazar kızın inadını fazlaya kaçırdığı için bende o kadar da etkisi olamadı.

Geoffrey'in de klasik bir aptal aşık olması ise işleri hiç te kolaylaştırmıyor elbette. İlk önce onun sevdiğini itiraf etmemesine şaşırdım aslında. Ama gidipte hemen kızı kurtardığının salisesinde diz çöküp ilan etmesi ise komik geldi :)

Çeviriye gelirsek bir tek maruzatım var. Kitabın başlarında çok fazla "O" lafı geçiyordu. Orjinal metninde sanırım "She","He" diye yazılan yerleri direkt çeviriyle yapılınca kitabın akışı bozulmuş. Sonradan bu olay düzeldiğinde rahatça, gözüme takılmadan kitabı okuyabildim.

Konumuza gelirsek De Burgh erkeklerinden biri kralın buyruğuyla Mallory Fitzhugh ile evlenmek zorundadır. Ama kadın ilk kocasını gerdek gecesi öldürdüğünden kimse bu göreve yanaşmamaktadır. En küçük çöpü çeken Geoffrey bu kadınla evlenme talihsizliğine hak kazanmıştır.

Düğün için seyahat ettiklerinde toprakların berbat durumunda olduğunu görmüştür. Evinde aynı halde olduğunu görünce içini karamsarlık kaplar. Hele ki müstakbel gelin onları karşılamaya bile tenezzül etmemiştir.

Geoffrey odasına gider ve bu vahşi kadınla ilk defa tanışır. Evlenmeleri zar zor olsa da kadın ondan sonra her adımda adama lanetler yağdırıyor, öldürme vaatleri veriyordur. Hatta bir keresinde Geoffrey'e sürekli taşıdığı bıçaklarından birini fırlatmış ve bilerek sıyırmasına sebep olmuştur. Geoffrey ise bıçağı yerinden alıp karısına "Bunu düşürmüşsün (!) karıcığım (!!)" diyerek geri vermiştir. Siz adamın sabrını sebatını tahmin edin yani :)

Ama herşey Geoffrey'in abisinin kalesine yapılan ziyaretten sonra değişir. Mallory'nin içine De Burgh'ların düşündüğü gibi şeytanın ta kendisi olmadığına dair bir şüphe tohumu düşmüştür bile...

Book 2 in the de Burgh series

Another amazing addition to the de Burgh series! Ms. Simmons writes so beautifully that it’s so easy to get drawn into her world and her characters in it. By the King’s decree one of the de Burgh sons must marry Dunstan’s neighbor- Elene Fitzhugh (the daughter of Dunstan’s enemy from the first book). Elene is known as a wild and fearsome creature. No one wants to marry her. So they draw sticks. Geoffrey gets the short stick- literally- and must fulfill his duty. Can the most patient and learned de Burgh understand or even tame the wild woman?

Twaddle, of course, but that's why I read this stuff. It's in the "so bad it's good" category. Stupid characters, ludicrous plot. The heroine is repeatedly referred to as "spicy", mainly it seems because her hair is the colour of ginger and cinnamon, but also, weirdly, she apparently tastes of cinnamon too!

On the plus side, I've learnt a new word for the penis - "tarse". Always useful when playing Scrabble.

I have to admit to being rather disappointed that not one of the De Burgh brothers is named Christopher. If I'd been the author, I wouldn't have been able to help myself.

Il titolo ricama i protagonisti.
Lei, Elene Fitzhug, è una donna con un passato psicologicamente doloroso. Rimasta orfana della mamma quando era ancora molto piccola, ha dovuto capire che per sopravvivere deve farsi vedere come una persona forte, caparbia, testarda, orgogliosa, a cui è meglio stare lontani se non si vuol correre il rischio di farsi molto male. Il padre, Clarence, è un violento, disinteressato completamente a lei, che la venderebbe al miglior offerente se questo portasse denaro e potere nel maniero dove vive, ma quando muore, la situazione sia economica che gestionale del castello è in grave crisi. Elene si ritrova così sposata contro la sua volontà, a un uomo che la violenta durante la prima notte di nozze, costrngendo lei a ucciderlo per legittima difesa. A questo punto, il re Edoardo pretende che la nostra protagonista si risposi con uno dei fratelli De Burgh. La scelta ricade su Geoffrey, un uomo bello, aitante, che accetta con rassegnazione il destino che lo aspetta. E' un uomo colto, che ama ponderare sui problemi e che spera sempre di evitare la violenza, ma tutto ciò che lo circonda nel castello dei Fitzhug mette a durissima prova la pazienza del protagonista.
Soltanto con il suo comportamento riuscirà a placare le sfuriate, gli atti di ribellione, le parole taglienti di Elene, che nel frattempo rimane stupita del comportamento del marito nel rendersi conto che non tutti gli uomini sono come suo padre e come il suo primo marito.
Per più della metà del libro si parla del comportamento dei due protagonisti. Secondo me alcune pagine sono di troppo, ma credo che la Simmons abbia voluto far capire al lettore quanto Elene abbia sofferto e come un po' alla volta si ricreda su Geoffrey e come quest'ultimo riesca a capire la moglie vedendo i piccoli e continui miglioramenti nella convivenza.
Viene d'istinto fare un raffronto tra Geoffrey e suo fratello Dunstan, l'eroe del 1° volume della saga. Due caratteri molto diversi, ma uniti da un profondo affetto, tanto da correre in aiuto per sostenersi a vicenda.
Anche se Elene è proprio una catastrofe come donna, a me ha ispirato subito simpatia. Avevo capito d'istinto che il suo modo di fare era solo per salvaguardare se stessa ed era mossa dalla paura che le potesse succedere qualcosa di terribile. Lui, ha una pazienza infinita, è un po' arrogante e saccente nei suoi pensieri, e ciò dà un po' fastidio, ma quando scopre di aver sbagliato ha la capacità di chiedere scusa e riconoscere i suoi errori.
Insomma un libro piacevole. Si sarebbe ottenuto lo stesso risultato se fosse stato meno ripetitivo in alcune parti.

Druhý nejstarší by měl být Geoffrey, ne?
Zkrocení vlka - Simon, sotva dvacetiletý mladík, se stydlivě zapýřil, když ho nejstarší bratr zmínil.
Rozuměj nejstarší na Campionu, protože nejstarší je Dunstan.
s. 15 Geoffreyho a Simona. To je ten nejstarší a druhý nejstarší na Campionu.

Zjevně mám o středověku zkreslené představy.
s. 62 V účetních záznamech nacházel samé nesrovnalosti včetně nepochopitelných převodů poměrně značných částek z hradní pokladny na soukromé konto holohlavého správce.
To „soukromé konto“ si v roce 1270 nějak nedovedu představit.
Hrdina nebude žádný myslitel.
s. 144 Pokud skutečně zmizely z hradní pokladny nějaké peníze...
Ale o tom jsme již hovořili, Mlho! Navíc „konto“ je hrnec plný mincí.

Dopisní papír bych ještě pochopila, ale „ozdobný papír na balení dárků“? Není to už moc?

Hrdina je knihomol a na svou dobu vlastní IMHO až moc knih, ale co už. Hrdinu překvapí, že hrdinka neumí číst. Ta přesto na s. 161 lituje, že ji otec nejmenoval kastelánkou, protože by hospodařila lépe než správce.

Hrdina je univerzitní učenec (s. 171) prošlý všemi evropskými univerzitami (s. 188).
A to je mu zhruba 22 let.

Hrdinovým životním snem bylo... česat hrdince vlasy.

O que dizer desse livro maravilhoso que decidi reler e me apaixonei mais ainda pela história? Realmente um clássico histórico que merece o título. A autora foi muito feliz na criação dos protagonistas, a doçura e integridade do mocinho Geoffrey em oposição a personalidade difícil da mocinha Elene, e é incrível que mesmo nas piores fases dela ele nunca deixou de ficar ao seu lado, de a defender mesmo ela sendo uma megera, ele era o único que enxergava o interior da Elene e a respeitava. O mocinho não têm outra palavra para o descrever a não ser PERFEITO!
Já a mocinha Elene andava na linha fina pra ser uma megera, mas tendo narração do seu ponto de vista, você via que ela não era assim de graça, e o final reforça mais ainda isso, sem falar que a autora estruturou tão bem a personagem, que mesmo nos seus piores momentos, assim como Geoffrye, eu não consigui odiá-la, e sim torcer para que ela encontrasse a felicidade e fosse amada! E ah, a cena clássica dele penteando os cabelos dela, como não amar? Volto a repetir, a autora acertou em cheio nesse livro em tantos aspectos, e ainda criou cenas memoráveis e marcantes para os leitores de romance histórico.
Mesmo no finalzinho tendo aquele clássico 'suspense' desnecessário, mantenho minhas 5 estrelas com louvor, pois foi rápido e teve um epílogo lindinho para compensar.

Eu não costumo fazer releituras. Na maioria das vezes, quando volto a um livro que já li, acabo não gostando tanto quanto da primeira vez. Por isso, prefiro guardar a memória afetiva que tive com a primeira leitura. Mas Anel de Noivado, da Debora Simmons, é uma exceção absoluta. Eu li e reli esse livro tantas vezes que até perdi a conta ? e ele continua sendo perfeito a cada nova leitura.

A mocinha da história carrega traumas profundos, e isso a torna uma personagem extremamente humana e tocante. A forma como a autora constrói sua trajetória, mostrando sua força e fragilidade, é simplesmente maravilhosa. Já o mocinho... ele é, sem dúvidas, o mocinho mais perfeito que já encontrei na literatura. Ele é compreensivo, gentil e respeita cada limite dela com uma sensibilidade rara. A relação entre os dois é construída com muito carinho e respeito, e isso me conquistou profundamente.

O início do livro é particularmente divertido. A mocinha tem uma fama meio duvidosa, o que faz com que o mocinho fique receoso a princípio ? o que rende momentos hilários. Mas, aos poucos, ele vai percebendo quem ela realmente é, e aí começa o verdadeiro encantamento.

Não sei nem como descrever o quanto amo esse livro. Ele é engraçado, emocionante, delicado e apaixonante. Um daqueles romances que aquecem o coração e deixam saudade quando terminam. Anel de Noivado é, para mim, uma história perfeita.

(Explícito). Al menos el final valió la pena tantos problemas. Elene tiene o tenía muchos traumas debido al ambiente en el que creció y ella misma (con una intervención de Marion, quien sigue sin gustarme) se dio cuenta de que no necesariamente debía de seguir comportándose así y tomó como un desafío cambiar de actitud, aunque solo fuera con Geoffrey. El supo ver más o menos a través de Elene y nunca la trató mal, le tuvo mucha paciencia y a veces comprensión. The relationship growth between Geoffrey and Elene was very believable. I know this book is listed under a couple of beta heroes list, but to me Geoffrey is everything an alpha male hero should be. He never second-guessed to defend and protect Elene. He is also very patient and always wanting to care for her 💕🥹

Elene, is not your typical demure heroine but she's rough because she just wants to protect herself in a man's world. Reading about her being afraid to be vulnerable because she has never had anyone to protect or defend her made me teary 🥲

Overall, really enjoyed this will def be reading more from the series.

Segundo volume da série Família De Burgh.

Comecei a ler esse livro com a firme impressão de estar lendo uma versão de A Megera Domada. Não algo exatamente feminista já que Simmons não faz disso a agenda da história - o casamento entre Elene Fitzhugh e Geoffrey.

A trama é bem mais evoluída do que se espera nesse gênero, mas o meu destaque fica para as cenas levemente fetichistas que são uma das características da autora.

Não vá com muita sede ao pote, contudo, não é nada que possa assustar a sua avó.

Wonderful Historical Romance

This is the first book I’ve read by Deborah Simmons and I found it to be a wonderful historical romance. The story revolves around Geoffrey de Burgh and his wife, the heiress Elene Fitzhugh.

The king had ordered that one of the de Burgh brothers marry the Fitzhugh heiress, who had killed her first husband. The brothers drew straws to determine which one of them would marry her and Geoffrey drew the short straw. Geoffrey is the scholar among the brothers and although he is an accomplished warrior, he is more thoughtful and gentler than his brothers.

Elene is dressed in shapeless brown dresses and her long wild hair hasn’t been brushed in ages. She keeps her knives handy and constantly threatens all around her, including Geoffrey. He is the first person to treat her with gentleness and respect, which earns him the derogatory title of Saint Geoffrey.

The characters are extremely well drawn and developed in this book, including the secondary characters. I loved the story and how well it was told. It was definitely not love at first sight for either Elene or Geoffrey and it was fascinating to see how their romance played out.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a wonderfully told romance or historical romance. I’m going to get the first book in this series as soon as I finish this review!

Yes

I read this long ago, when it first came out. I saw it listed and knew I would have to read it again. It holds the same warm feeling as it did so many years ago. Geoffrey is my favourite. The father Campion, is close second. If you want a sweet, warm, story, then the De Burgh family will satisfy you.

Steadily coming with reliable quality medieval romance.
this genre is often neglected but I've got a crush on knights and medieval ladies and honor and valance.
there's not a big emphasis on knightly honor made in these books -- even so, i enjoyed them.

I loved the gentle hero, most medieval books have he-man heroes and this was a breath of fresh air.
