The Bronte story is a tragedy itself!
I had no idea about the Bronte family until I read those two words "Jane Eyre", then I realized that I was reading about three famous English writers Charlotte, Emily, Anne and their family.
Patrick Bronte is a brave father, he tells the remarkable story of his big familly ; their loss, sadness, ambitions, heartbreaking moments, love, hardwork, diaseases, happiness.... and the strong relationships that combined the members of his family.
Honestly, I got bored in the few first pages but when I reached the middle of the story, felt something different because it evoked many emotions in my heart. I couldn't imagine how Mr. Patrick could bear the sorrow of losing his family mebmbers one after another and how strong he was to bury them and start over with new struggles in his life.
The three sisters had a brilliant career, they started from scratch to become famous writers in the English literature, but each one of them had completely a different personality; Charlotte was bold, wise and patient ; Anne was courageous and the prettiest of the girls of the Bronte family; Emily was really peaceful and shy, I can easily relate to her character. I had great sympathy for them all because they experienced hard conditions in their life however that couldn't stop them from attaining their dreams.
The book was easy to read and highly recommended for beginners, at the sametime the story was sad and motivating.

Quyển sách này nằm trong series của thư viện Oxford bookworms. Tôi đọc quyển này vì muốn trao dồi lại tiếng Anh của mình.
Hẳn nhiều người đọc sách từng nghe đến 2 tựa sách nổi tiếng Jane Eyre và Đồi gió hú. Đó là 2 quyển sách của chị em nhà Bronte. Quyển sách này kể lại câu chuyện thật về gia đình Bronte, qua lời kể của người bố - một linh mục. Câu chuyện bắt đầu từ khi gia đình các chị em nhà Bronte còn nhỏ xíu cho đến khi cô Charlotte chết đi.
Thời bấy giờ, cuộc sống khắc nghiệt lại thêm bệnh lao, nhiều trẻ em và người lớn đã chết. Gia đình Bronte cũng không ngoại lệ. Đầu tiên là cái chết của người mẹ, rồi người chị cả, người chị thứ hai. Sau cái chết của đứa con gái thứ 2 vì bệnh trong trường học, cha của Charlotte lập tức đưa 3 đứa con còn lại về nhà, giữ bên mình. Nhờ vậy, 4 đứa trẻ (Emily không đến trường) với sự chăm sóc và nuôi dạy của người dì đã lớn lên, mạnh khỏe dù không được tới trường. Hoàn cảnh đó giúp 4 đứa trẻ nhà Bronte phát huy trí tưởng tượng tối đa. Cả 4 đứa trẻ đều vẽ rất đẹp, tưởng tượng ra nhiều câu chuyện về thế giới khác thế giới mà chúng đang sống. Điều này đã làm nên chất liệu cho các câu chuyện mà chị em nhà Bronte sáng tác sau này.
Khi lớn hơn, 4 người con này đi làm, nhưng cuộc sống lại quá khó khăn. Trong 1 lần thất tình với một người phụ nữ đã có chồng, người con trai duy nhất trong nhà đã hủy hoại mình bằng rượu từ từ cho đến chết khi còn khá trẻ. Đau buồn trước cái chết của em trai, Emily Bronte - cô con gái thứ 4 đã lang thang ngoài trời mưa trong ngày lễ tang em trai mình, rồi mắc bệnh lao và chết. Cũng căn bệnh đó cũng đã giết chết cô em gái út Anne. Chỉ còn 1 mình Charlotte còn sống, kết hôn với một cha xứ phụ tá cho cha của mình, sống hạnh phúc trong quãng thời gian đó. Khi mang thai chuẩn bị sinh con, và mắc bệnh, cô không vượt qua được và chết.
Cuối đời, ngôi nhà chỉ còn lại người cha và người con rể. Một năm sau, người cha mất.
Trong thời gian vật lộn để mưu sinh, Charlotte đã lấy một bút danh đàn ông để gởi đi bản thảo quyển Jane Eyre đến các nhà xuất bản. Và bị trả về. Rồi cô lại gởi đi cho đến 1 ngày người ta thấy hay và in. Jane Eyre đã thành công ngay sau khi xuất bản.Tiếp nối cô chị, 2 chị em còn lại đã gởi các bản thảo của mình đi và cũng được xuất bản, trong đó có Đồi gió hú của Emily. Các cô gái đã chết khi tài năng đang ở độ chín. Dù viết rất ít nhưng tên tuổi của các cô được xem như là một trong những nhà văn lớn nhất của Anh.
Cả quyển sách là những chuỗi ngày buồn, khốn khổ. Màu sắc chính được miêu tả là màu xám của những cơn gió lạnh, bệnh lao những trận ho và tang tóc. Nó làm tôi cảm thấy xót xa cho thân phận con người và cả sự tiếc nuối cho những tài năng đoản mệnh. Câu nói bất lực của Anne trước khi chết làm tôi thấy ám ảnh: “ I don't want to die, papa. I have too many ideas in my head, too many books to write.”
Tôi gấp sách lại mà vẫn còn dư âm, có cái gì khắc khoải. Quyển sách cho tôi thấy rõ hơn bối cảnh mà những quyển sách nhà Bronte ra đời, để hiểu tác giả nó hơn và để thấy nó tuyệt vời hơn. Chúng ta, không ai có thể biết được rằng, nếu bệnh lao quái ác không giết đi các cô thì còn bao nhiêu tác phẩm tuyệt vời nữa đã ra đời, cống hiến cho nền văn chương của nhân loại.

for real
what i liked the most is the relation among family members
the fact the sisters have built an entire world a secrete one only for themselves is jst
so touching i really did loved their relation

what was sad really is when Anne told him that she still has many ideas for her books she doesn't want to die what a great books we would have now

This book is about 3 girls and they are very good at writing. This book is very good to read. The story was so exciting.

A very heart warming story of the Bronte family. :)
Page 5: ‘This world is a hard place, children, and we cannot understand everything that God does. But God loves us, never forget that. Your mother loved you, and perhaps she can see you now. We must all try to work hard, learn as much as possible, and be kind to each other. Will you do that?’ ‘Yes, father.’
Page 31: When you are blind, you listen to things very carefully. I used to sit alone in my room and listen to the sounds of the wind outside the house. The wind talks and whispers and sings - it has many voices.
Page 47: At last, in May, Charlotte went away with her. They went to York first, where they visited a wonderful church, York Minister. ‘If men can make something as beautiful as this, ‘ Anne whispered, ‘what is God’s real home like?’

It came to me as a surprise that the author of "Jane Eyre" and "Wuthering Heights" are sisters in England. This is the book written by a father of six children, each of who passed away one by one.
I read a lot of passages on pieces of literature this year. One of those started as the following statements.
Many critics of Emily Bronte's novel Wuthering Heights see its second part as a counterpoint that
comments on, if it does not reverse, the first part, where a "romantic" reading receives more confirmation.
It would have been easier for me to understand those passages if I had more background knowledge such as written in this book.

This book is a good way to learn about not only the famous Bronte sisters, but also the whole Bronte family, from tragedies, hardships, deaths to triumphs and short but memorable writing careers of Charlotte, Emily and Anne Bronte. I'm not a big fan of the writing of this book, I must say, since I thought it didn't evoke much sentiments or emotions in me like some other Oxford bookworms books. But all in all, this is still an enjoyable read if you are into real stories and want to know the real life of the Bronte family.

I liked The Bronte story, it was easy to read with me. I read it many times, and I rewrote it all in my notebook. No one taught three of the Bronte girls How to write, with a special talent, they wrote famous novels.
Thank you, Tim Vicary author, You gave me a love family story, I lived with the characters in the story, I was happy with their successes, and I was sad also with their dead. I like how to author told the story, how to describe the surroundings, the sounds, the leaves, and I loved them.

Ai đã từng đọc Đồi gió hú thì chắc hẳn sẽ biết tác giả Emily Bronte. Và Một câu truyện buồn về chính gia đình tác giả. Được kể lại bởi Một người cha mà phải lần lượt nhìn từ vợ đến 6 đứa con mình lần lượt bỏ mình mà tìm về trời. Dù đau buồn nhưng cuộc sống vẫn tiếp tục, thật sự là một người cha dũng cảm. Đôi khi người dũng cảm nhất là người ở lại. Dù hiện tại dịch Corona có thể nào , hy vọng mợoij người sẽ luôn dũng cảm đối mặt với nó.

It's a life story written by a father lost his wife and every children, who includes some famous writers. I thought that his sadness must have been too big and harsh. However, in the painful environment, some daughters wrote books based on their experiences, their books are loved by many people. This is a beautiful story, but I didn't like that the father ranked his daughters by pretty, beautiful, and strong.

Me dieron este libro en clase de inglés gramática para hacer una redacción, y tengo que admitir que al principio creí que iba a ser un coñazo (como todos sus antecesores). Sin embargo profundicé en la historia desde el primer momento y cuando termine el libro unas horas después de habérmelo acabado, estaba con sabor de poco en la boca.
Ha sido el mejor libro que me leído hasta ahora en lo que llevó de vida escolar.

Patrick was a very intelligent and had a very succesful life going to Cambridge to become a teacher, his only wish was to see his daughters and his only son succesful. After his wife Maria died, Patrick lost himself, in the mean time an illnes started, and his older daughters Maria and Elizabeth died. What i liked about Patrick is that after all his six children's death, he stayed strong.
CHARLOTTE BRONTÈ: I liked Charlotte, she was free, happy, loved her brother and sisters, had a very special talent in writing as a child. It was very interesting to know how she wrote "Jane Eyre" that till this very day is the best book. Her relationship with her sisters was very close, together they wrote little stories, played with their toys, it was very interesting to know about the woman who wrote tha most popular literature book.
EMILY BRONTÈ: I Was honestly positivly suprised from Emily, i actually could relate to her a lot. She was shy, quiet, but she had that aura that she just shows a blank face outside, but on inside she is happy and full of ideas like her book "Wuthering heights" was. Very interesting intelligent woman.
ANNE BRONTÈ: Anne was known as the prettiest from all girls, she was also like Charlotte, happy, full of life, she was also the youngest. It was interesting to know about her too.
MARIA BRONTÈ: At first, Patrick thought that Maria would be the most succesful child.She wanted to go to school, she wanted to learn, but unfortunaly she went ill in the school and she died.
ELIZABETH BRONTÈ: Elizabeth was also like Maria, succesful at first, but unfortunaly she also died and about her life other is unknown.
BRANWELL: As a young boy, Branwell was happy, full of life, he wanted to become an artist ( all the Brontès painted), so he went to London all grown up, but he came back really fast all broken and pale, he wanted to be a writer also, so he took a teaching job at the Robinsons ( can't tell what will happen). Branwell was the only child that Patrick in the end was really disappointed, he became a drunken guy, going to pubs and all.
MARIA BRONTÈ (PATRICK'S WIFE): Patrick described her as a short sweet woman who loved her childern dearly, unfortunately she died and Patrick had to bury her in the church near their house.

This book talk about the Bronte sisters. Charlotte, Anne, and Emily they wrote wonderful books. Charlotte lived longer than any other of her siblings which make her wrote more books such as Jane Eyre, Shirley, Emma and so on. This make Charlotte the famous writer in England.

Having recently read the fictional work The Secret Adventures of Charlotte Brontë by Laura Joh Rowland, I was drawn to this compact Oxford Bookworm to jolt my knowledge of the sister and clarify who wrote what and when etc.
There are even some great photographs of Haworth village where the family lived and ink drawings done by the Brontë’s, who could all draw and paint beautifully according to their father Patrick. He outlived his wife and all six of his children. How sad!
On a different note, the latest film version of Charlotte's Jane Eyre is out in cinemas this week so might be worth checking out for Brontë fans.

I read until page 25 so I have not finished reading all.

4. a: "Don't forget yourself. You are the most important person in the world, to me."
b: Patrick said this word to his wife, Maria. He always care about her and their children. Through this story, I found that he was a gentle man and a nice father for his children.
5. This story was easy to read than other Oxford's level 3 books because it was easy to understand their feeling in each part. In this book, many people died, so this story seemed to be sad. However, they thanked for everyone especially a father when someone died. I learned that family's bond was very strong any time.

4. a. "It's one of our stories, papa," "We have to come in here to look at the picture. Then we invent what happens."
b. I like this sentence because when Charlotte was asked his father to see the books, she didn't tell him, but this time she did it and it's story was theirs. He might have been pleased.
5. This is kind of a sad story I think. Children died one after another and their father was left ;( I don't want to do this to my parents.

Sadece yazar olan 3 bronte kardeşten fazlasını yani kısaca tüm aileyi anlatan bir tür biyografi. Gerçekten çok etkileyici ve dramatik bir biyografiydi. Hatta artık sonlara doğru ağlayacaktım. Bu kitap kısacık bir ingilizce öğrenim kitabıysada bu kitabı oluduktan sonra bronteların kitapları kesinlikle daha anlamlı gelecek bana... Zaten Tim Vicary oxfordun bookworm dizisinde başı çeken isimdir.

May 13, 2011I didn't noticed that this story is about the great writers until I saw two words put together "Emily Bronte." Her story, "Wuthering Heights" is really famous, and I've seen the movie of her sister's "Jane Eyre." Then this book was getting very interested in reading it. I realized what Angela said that female writers use male names. Even now Harry Potter's writer did.
