"Arise Awake and Stop not til the goal is reached"

Vivekananda left a body of philosophical works (see Vivekananda's complete works). His books (compiled from lectures given around the world) on the four Yogas (Raja Yoga, Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga and Jnana Yoga) are very influential and still seen as fundamental texts for anyone interested in the Hindu practice of Yoga. His letters are of great literary and spiritual value. He was also considered a very good singer and a poet.By the time of his death, He had composed many songs including his favorite Kali the Mother. He used humor for his teachings and was also an excellent cook. His language is very free flowing. His own Bengali writings stand testimony to the fact that he believed that words - spoken or written - should be for making things easier to understand rather than show off the speaker or writer's knowledge.

Swami Vivekananda [ স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ ] (1863 – 1902), born Narendranath Datta, was an Indian Hindu monk, philosopher, author, religious teacher, and the chief disciple of the Indian mystic Ramakrishna. He was a key figure in the introduction of Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world and is credited with raising interfaith awareness, and bringing Hinduism to the status of a major world religion.

Born in Calcutta, Bengal Presidency, British India (present-day Kolkata, West Bengal, India)

"Arise Awake and Stop not till the goal is reached"

One of the great leaders' teeny-tiny spiritual books. It encapsulates the core of knowledge. Despite the fact that it is short and easy to read the book, I would not suggest it to novices. Anyone with a spiritual bent should read this book. Beginners can begin by laying the foundations and then return to read it.

It has a lot of stuff about courage, intelligence, and having a decent heart. It will aid in the development of one's personality, both in terms of behaviour and thought. The book will show you how to grow spiritually as a person. It was an eye-opening experience to read this.

A tiny pamphlet, but glad they’ve included this as a book... because it’s some of the most enlightening words I’ve ever read, albeit many many years ago.

Swami Vivekanada........

The combination of Shiva's Courage, Krishna's Intellect and Buddha's Heart ....

Only meditating upon a picture of him can develop anyones personality.....

And When He speaks his words of wisdom, stone melts.... heart purifies..... mind clears...
and true consciousness rises.....

He doesn't give magic formulae.... But gives life's principles..... the way life has to be lead... the paths to be followed.... and the ideals to live upon.....

His messages are eternal truths.... and free spirited.....

Recommended as a text book for transforming a homo sepience into human being.........

This is a compilation from the 'The Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda '. This book is not something that gives you tips to develop a fake personality for the people. But it says how to build a strong and independent personality which cannot be influenced by any external power. Such a freedom to get rid of the slavery must be the ultimate goal of our life. He also says how our character is built, how focusing on minute things will make change in a visible thought or action, how responsibility will make us the best, how important concentration is and so on that will help you to build a strong personality . So, it is a great book for the self-realization of your life. Happy Reading!!

It was fascinating to get an a spiritual insight into Swami Vivekananda's wisdom and philosophy of life. Admittedly, I do not know a great deal about Vivekananda and Hinduism and so this small book certainly provided me with a concise introduction. I was profoundly inspired by some of the quotes nearing the start of the book

'The world will change, if we change. If we are pure, the world will become pure'

'We should always try to help the world, that should be the highest motive in us'

'Learn that the whole of life is giving, that nature will force you to give'

This was an interesting quote also..
'If you project hatred and jealousy, they will rebound on you with compound interest'

Of course, I am not Hindu and do not thoroughly agree with all of the teachings.

Points presented in the book that I personally didn't agree with include:

-The idea that you shouldn't be passionate about your work.

-Any evil that's happened to you is essentially your fault.

Nevertheless, it was great to get an insight into these teachings and examine how they compare with Judeo-Christian teachings.

This was my intro to Hindu philosophy and it’s a short read, but heavy material for the novice. The author lays out basic principles to galvanize one’s personality to be able to weather the storms of life, while remaining clear headed and keeping eyes on the prize…self-actualization and harmony with one’s spirit. Basic Hindu terms are defined. I enjoyed it. One star out because it doesn’t explain how to handle every day obstacles or traumatic life events. Just keep a clear head, keep pushing forward. Good principles; Not helpful for those weak in spirit, which the author immediately dismisses as fundamentally flawed. The “weak” can become warriors once they find purpose.

Building an habit directs our character and which ultimately directs our personality. Personality development is not a book to develop by reading it for a while for which we have to make our habit and that implies us in building a character and ultimately builds our personality out of it. Steps mentioned by the Swamiji are must be followed to build our real personality.

It took me so long to read the book, size of the book not being the reason but the capacity of my brain to read more than a few pages at a time.
Amazing quotes , I highlighted so many of them but there were a few chapters which were related to soul and inner power that I was not able to understand.
Great read nonetheless

i read swamiji's books in middle school, only to quickly dismiss him as an ancient blind faith monger. and now, in the midst of crisis, i realize the gravity of his insight into the subtler laws of nature.

Undoubtedly the most Progressive Genius india has ever produced . Swami Vivekanand's writing style is clear and focussed. At one point he wrote that indian youth should start visiting China to learn some good skills from them . And just imagine what the world is feeling now , Swami Ji wrote mote than 100 years ago . And so many other good things . I'm sure few persons can love their country the way Swami Vivekananda did . I'm impressed . Looking forward to read all the 16 volumes of his works .
