Collection of poetry by African Americans including such names as Nikki Giovanni but also rappers like Chuck D and even a piece by Shaq. Included are interviews by a few of the included poets.

On the whole a collection of quality thought provoking work. The is an older collection so there are a few things that are unfortunate in hindsight, name dropping of Bill Cosby, some homophobia and antisemitism, but these are the exceptions rather than the rule.
