God Is More Than Enough
Rediscover one of the most beloved passages of Scripture—the 23rd Psalm—and the God who is more than enough to meet all your needs.
The Lord is my Shepherd; I Shall Not Want.
More than a lovely poem, Psalm 23 confronts distress and anxiety, fear and uncertainty, showing that if the Lord is your Shepherd, you can be confident in all the frightening circumstances of your life. In this book, Dr. Tony Evans explains how your worries will melt away as you trust God to meet your spiritual, directional, emotional, physical, and eternal needs.
When your spiritual energy is drained, He’ll lead you to refreshment.
When you’re confused by the world around you, God will guide you onto the right path.
When your life seems threatened by forces outside your control, God promises His protection.
No matter how things appear, your Good Shepherd is constantly at work on your behalf, and you can rely fully on His goodness and mercy all the days of your life.

In GOD IS MORE THAN ENOUGH, best-selling author and pastor Tony Evans offers a phrase-by-phrase look at Psalm 23. The opening verse states "The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want." Many Christians tend to focus on the second part of verse one: "I shall not want." In contrast, Evans begins this study by challenging readers to seek evidence within their own hearts that would confirm that the Lord truly is their Shepherd. It is this relationship that forms the basis of provision.
Most Christians don't actually believe that God is more than enough. Psalm 23 is an attack, Evans states, against the Christian's lack of trust in God. This lack of trust drives one to seek fulfillment in all the wrong places. If the Lord is your Shepherd the psalmist says you shall not want. In every possible circumstance God is more than enough to meet your needs whether spiritual, directional, emotional, physical or eternal.
Evans has a pastor's heart. He has the ability to teach profound truths in language that even those new to the faith can understand. Although the book is short there is much to ponder. I enjoyed the stories Evans told to further explain each concept. Highly recommended.
I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review.

I got this book for Christmas from my mom. And I flip between giving it 4 stars and 3.5. There was some great encouragement in this book but also I found some points to not quite land in a way that I feel would be easily understood by someone who wasn’t raised in the church (Methodist is what I mean by that). But it was quick and broke down a particular sector of scripture which was a nice journey. I left with also a lot of questions and thoughts which my mom said is a good thing so I suppose Tony did a good job.

This was a great book on Psalm 23. I learned so much through this book. I will definitely read this one again. I need to be reminded of the truth so many times. I also enjoyed that is was a short book but but one packed with truth.

All about Psalm 23.

This is my first Tony Evans book. That is, it's the first one I've read. I've got his
How Should Christians Vote?
hanging out on the Kindle waiting on me to have time to give it the attention it may or may not deserve. Other than that, from my perspective he's basically been a name in the "religious" section at the bookstore, and I'm not even sure I could tell you which part of the religious section.
With all of that said, I was pleasantly surprised by this little book. Not that it's spectacular exegesis or anything like that, it's just a perfectly serviceable meditation on Psalm 23. (I say this in the context of having just finished reading several commentaries on Psalm 23 in preparation for covering it in Bible study.)
A few points on the book:
First, the author did an excellent job of highlighting the Gospel aspects of the Psalm. It's all too easy to read a Psalm like this and keep it vaguely touchy-feely, without remembering that Jesus is the good Shepherd, and that the way he cares for us most is through his sacrifice in our place on the cross. For that reason alone, I'm happy to recommend this book.
Second, the author stresses that God is sovereign--is our shepherd--in every aspect of life. Again, the temptation is either to over- or under-spiritualize this text. That is, one can either read this as God just being sovereign over your soul and not caring what you do day-to-day, or you can read this as God caring only for your physical well-being, and not caring about the state of your soul and your relationship with him. Evans stresses that God is our Shepherd in every aspect of human existence and in all circumstances. God is sovereign over our spiritual and physical lives in every situation in our lives.
My main quibble with the book is occasionally his choice of language. For example, in the chapter on God meeting our physical needs, he wanders near (but never really comes to) the idea that God will always make sure we are well-fed and employed. Again, he doesn't actively say this -he even explicitly says that God will be with us in suffering rather than taking our suffering away- but his language and use of examples leave the door open just enough that the reader ought to use a bit of caution.
That quibble aside, I am happy to recommend this book as something useful on Psalm 23 (though not so much as Henry or Calvin's commentaries, linked above).
This book was provided free by the publisher on the condition that I review it. I was not required to write a positive review.

I remember listening to Dr. Tony Evans on the Christian talk radio station here when I first started working outside of retail and inside of an office. There was a little boom box that didn’t get too many stations, but I would spend the majority of the day sorting files and listening to the parade of preachers lined up by a program manager somewhere closer to the heart of DC. Dr. Evans was on at 9:30, if I remember correctly, right after John MacArthur. As you can imagine, he stood out.
Dr. Evans is a very powerful speaker who can captivate his audience and I suspect, had he read this book to me, I’d have followed along a bit better. As it was - even at less than 100 pages - it felt really stretched out and repetitive. The book covers Psalm 23, which is passage of Scripture I’m sure every “church” kid remembers learning when growing up. Both of my two boys have already gone through Sunday School classes that had them learn the whole thing.
But, Dr. Evans explodes the passage and explores it piece by piece, based on the assertion that this is a battle Scripture - a plan of attack against any doubt or confusion in our lives. The premise isn’t entirely wrong, though I always cringe when certain passages of Scripture are pulled out and elevated go heights beyond their context within the entirety of the Bible. And that’s, in a sense, what Dr. Evans does here, applying this single snippet of Scripture as though it were all that’s necessary for a thorough Bible study.
Some good thoughts throughout the book, and some helpful reminders, but I wish it had been better kept in context. (And shorter, it could have been shorter.)Simple as that.

A book with a timeless message, so helpful in today's time, written with modern language to ignite an understanding who our good shepherd is and to provide certainty that he will be there for us as the need arises. Have you ever needed direction or faced a fear and needed assurance? You'll find the writings of Tony Evans to be comforting and restoring. In fact, his analogies will ignite a connection with you in trusting the Creator, to be safe and secure. Basically, the 23rd Psalm can be summed up:
1. God is consistent, so let Him take care of you daily.
2. It's been a long, hard year; He'll renew.
3. He'll restore, give back to you.
4. Guiding the right way.
5. Like a GPS, recalculating and helping us out of a valley.
6. In the shadows of the valley, He gives us a view of Him.
7. "In His will, you're safer than anywhere else you could be."
8. God grants the supply. He sets the table.
9. "God is not subject to the economy."
10. He gives a 'Super size' anointing.
11. God has 'surplus grace.' He's so loyal to us.
12. As a woman of faith, here isn't all there is. Heaven is our home.
I loved this book. It's an easy read in one night. So comforting and full of assurance and hope. I gleaned a new perspective. I really think you're going to like this one.

I was provided a copy of God is more than enough by Tony Evans through Blogging for books. I just finished it its a really good study on the 23rd Psalm. I found it to be inspirational and very uplifting . I have read other books on this topic and I put this one in my top favorites.
Tony Evans is able to take us step by stem through this wonderful Psalm with wisdom and sound biblical teaching. Its a really small book and would make for a great gift for anyone. Its very portable and can be kept in a purse or book bag easily . Its 90 pgs long but each page is packed with useful information we can all use daily.
I would really consider giving this book as a gift, to anyone who loves Psalm 23 as I do or to anyone on your list to give a great book to . Because of its size its less intimidating to people who do not read a lot and have trouble getting through larger commentary's or book like this.
I was very happy I got to read it and have it in my library forever. This is the kind of book that's meant to re-read again and again. This would be awesome for a teen to read because it will not cause them to be overwhelmed by lots of pages but rather give them sound teaching combined with easy reading.

God Is More Than Enough should have just been a quick read for me, but it was filled with so many nuggets of Truth that I chose to savor and absorb the healing and comforting words as he explained verse by verse just exactly how it pertains to my life. Whether you know nothing about these verses or if this is a portion of Scripture you memorized decades ago...there is much to be gained as you take a look at Psalm 23 through this book. The compact size makes it perfect for carrying with you to peruse when you have a few moments, to do slowly as a small group or private devotions, or to give as a gift. For the ones who are not huge fans of reading, this is a wonderful size. Great book and one I am sure to treasure.

God is more than enough is a short book by Tony Evans. It takes Psalm 23 and applies it to five different areas of our lives (spiritual, directional, emotional, physical, and eternal). This book serves as a reminder that there is no issue no need that will EVER arise that God cannot handle. It also shows us just how Psalm 23 applies to each area of life.
There isn’t too much else to say about the book other than: I got this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

The book was short but okay. It seems that he borrows a lot from Max Lucado's "Traveling Light" which is about Psalm 23. Overall the book is very short, only about 50 pages. It would make for a nice gift to a graduate or for Christmas.
