"Your soul longs for the fullness of life that God promises. When you regularly connect with God, you not only access the power and guidance you need for each day, but you also invest in eternity-where your real home is going to be. When you take time to refuel your soul, you're doing something that will last forever." (pg.110)

Would love to rate it higher, but could not. Really simple book for the novice/young Christian. Doug Fields doesn't share any earth shattering truths nor does he blow you away with some insight that you may not have seen before. He does however stress the importance of needing that time with God - for "God is the ultimate power source." If we are honest, we all struggle at one point or another with Stopping, Being Quiet, and Connecting with God! There are other great books of his; this one was not spectacular but not terrible!

A quick read, full of examples of how to establish a habit of connecting with God on a regular basis, without pushing any guilt about not doing so already. I really appreciated how specific the examples were, and how easy they would be to incorporate in a busy lifestyle.

This book is perfect for someone who has lost their connection or is struggling to maintain their connection with God. It’s a short read but the author offers practical advice on how to stop and make a connection with God even if you’re the busiest person on Earth. This book was a great help to me!

A short, but good read. Fields had a lot of practical ways to help people connect to Jesus. It is not earth shattering, but I would feel comfortable recommending it. I may even read it again one day.

Another church bookstore read, I really loved this slim little book. Easy to read in one setting, though I chunked it out in a few more because I wanted to savor the lessons held within. A look at how to spend more time with God when your days are filled to the brim with being busy, as written by one of Saddleback Church's pastors (that's a group of pastors whose work I trust more than a lot of spiritual leaders out there).

A few gems from the book I underlined (and there were many) highlighted below. This would make a great stocking stuffer gift for Christian followers in your life or anyone who might benefit from learning more about the gift of God's grace:

• When I'm spiritually empty, my life sputters. Things feel different. Not good different—bad different. I'm shallow, confused, and anxious.

• If guilt defines you, I'm so sorry. I pray that you'll come to see that you're not a "lousy Christian" if you don't have traditional quiet time with God. The Christian life is not about locks and chains. Jesus came to set us free. Yes, some guilt may serve as God's motivator, but too many Christians cower because of false guilt—aka condemnation—that they've headed upon their own shoulders because they've compared themselves to an unrealistic model and come up short. The guild is wrong and unfair, and it will weigh you down and wear you out.

• God is at work in our lives ... There will always be some sort of mess God is working with. But every time we notice a positive change in our character, we can thank God because He's at work.

• My connections with God are much more free-flowing (than they used to be). I read God's Word but sometimes I do it at home, sometimes at work, sometimes in the car. Other times I'll read verses I've written on three-by-five cards that I leave on my dash to meditate on while at stoplights. <---Love that idea!

When you read Refuel you’ll probably think the guy that wrote is talking to you. I did. We’re so busy with our lives, but we understand that it takes time to know God so we plan to make Him a priority in our lives. We’ll get up at 4:00 in the morning so we can read the Word or stay up till 12:00 so we can pour our hearts out to Him, but then we miss one day and then the next day we’re too tired to get up and then we’re 6 chapters behind so we just stop.

In Refuel Doug Fields takes a unique approach to staying spiritually fit. Instead of cutting out a huge block of time to read or pray he talks about taking very small amounts of time to “refuel” yourself spiritually. He talks about printing off Bible verses and putting them in his car so he can read them while he stops at a red light and then meditate on them as he drives home. He talks about saying a quick prayer of thankfulness for God giving you another day when you wake up in the morning.

I think he’s right. You can refuel yourself spiritually by taking these 30 seconds to a minute breaks during your day to stop and refocus, but he admits that there’s got to be a time when you throw yourself into study or when you wear out your knees in prayer. It’s a very short book, but it’s packed full of ideas that just might help you rearrange your life and keep you spiritually full.

This book sets out to be an uncomplicated "guide" to connecting with God. Not a comprehensive one, just a simple and useful tool. In that goal, it succeeds with humor, humility and candor. There is the occasional expression that seems simplistic as opposed to simple, but this little book surprised me with it's depth and practicality in such a small space. A great read for new Christians especially, but a neat little shot of energy--a refueling, in fact--for those that have walked with God for some time.

if you work with youth ministries, this might be a good read. there are some good points and exercises that might help if you're in a slump or looking for some new ideas or a reminder. It is a blessing to work with kids, and at times a refuel or recharge is just needed. Fact of life with youth ministries.

Read this book in 2 hours during a personal, spiritual retreat after directing 10 weeks of summer camps. It helped me transition from a fast paced, high spiritual environment to a slower work day with little to no people around. Highly recommend!

This is such a great little book about connecting with God. I would recommend to everyone who ever feels burdened to have a long quiet time with God. Stop, Be Quiet, Make a connection!
