His mother Spotted Bird is being held captive deep in Montana Territory and, unless they find her and set her free, Black Eagle may never see his mother again. To reach their destination, the three friends must travel hundreds of miles across unfamiliar prairie, battle blizzards, the U.S. Army and bands of Sioux warriors, who are the sworn enemies of Black Eagle and the Assiniboine. He is best known for the "Bains Series" of novels for children set in Canada in the 1870s. There are now seven books in the series. He plans to write twelve altogether with settings in every part of the country. A film series by CBC and BBC is in the planning stages.

Good adventure in troubling times. I liked how they met up with Sitting Bull. It is amazing how the two children have such problem solving and peace keeping skills.

It was so boring, this book. I don't remember a single thing and I got through it in the 4th or 5th try. It was annoying but I just couldn't leave it unfinished...
