Basic Concepts of Quantum Mechanics

This book gives a detailed and systematic exposition of the fundamentals of non-relativistic quantum mechanics for those who are not acquainted with the subject. The character of the physics of microparticles and the problems of the physics of microphenomena (interference of amplitudes, the principle of superposition, the specific nature of measuring processes, causality in quantum mechanics) are considered on the basis of concepts about probability amplitudes. Besides, the quantum-mechanical systems – microparticles – with two basic states are analyzed in detail. The apparatus of quantum mechanics is considered as a synthesis of concepts about physics and the theory of linear operators. A number of specially worked out problems and examples have been included in order to demonstrate the working of the apparatus.

This book is meant for use by students of engineering and teachers-training institutes. It may also be used by engineers of different profiles.

Lev Vasilievich Tarasov (Russian: Лев Васильевич Тарасов) Was born in 1934. Graduated from the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute in 1958 with a degree in Theoretical Nuclear Physics. Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (1968), Associate Professor (1969), Professor (1983). In 1989-1992. - Head of the Department of Methods of Teaching Natural and Mathematical Cycle at the Moscow Institute for Advanced Training of Educators; in 1992-1998 - Head of the Department of Physics at the Moscow State Open Pedagogical University. In 1994 he was awarded the badge "Excellence in Public Education" for the development of a new educational technology "Ecology and Dialectics" (in Ukraine - "Ecology and Development") and scientific guidance of a pedagogical experiment on the practical implementation of technology. this book's author is stated as 'unknown' in goodreads.I would very happy to share with the readers that the author of this book is 'L.V.Tarasov'. He has written many more books in general physics. I personally love the way he explains things and the clarity with which he writes. Would reccomend this to every body who wants to enjoy learning quantum mechanics.

From all the books on QM and QFT I've studied this is the one that left a lasting impression on me and to which I owe most of my understanding of the quantum world. French edition's title is "Physique quantique et opérateurs linéaires" (Mir Ed.) and for some strange reason, the author's name is spelled Tarassov there. Highly recommended to physics students.
