Alex Cahill and Logan Finch return in the gripping third novel in GJ Moffat's Glasgow-set crime series.
When a passenger jet crashes in Denver, Colorado, nobody survives.
In Glasgow, Alex Cahill is surprised to receive a phone call from the wife of an old Secret Service colleague who was supposedly travelling on the doomed plane. But there is no record of his name on the passenger list.
Cahill uses his connections to find out what has happened but no one is talking. Not even to him. Enlisting the help of his lawyer and friend, Logan Finch, Cahill is determined to get some answers.
Logan's girlfriend, DCI Rebecca Irvine, is also looking for answers. A new drug is killing users but is it accidental death or could it be homicide? As Rebecca searches the streets of Glasgow, and Cahill and Logan head to Denver, they are unaware that a perfect storm of events across the globe is about to engulf them all...
First off, a particular peeve of mine - what the hell does the cover (plane crashed into a loch) have to do with the story?
'Daisychain' this was not, that was spectacular, but G J Moffatt is brilliant at building that 'uh oh' tension, and a racing towards a denoument. I almost gave this three stars though, feeling that the writing was a little more simplistic (but would need to re-read the other two to make sure) and wondering how Becky Irvine is able to rush out in the middle of the night when she has a small child at home. Still looking forwad to reading 'Protection' though, which arrived yesterday.
Overall I liked this, though I didn't understand why the book was broken down into sections as they had no relevance to the plot. I also liked how the plots intertwined but it was done subtly. Another slight annoyance is how some characters are referred to by their surname and some by their first name.
Fast paced thriller, even though the story was split across two continents and many different (short) sections. Plot may be a little far fetched, or maybe the scary thing is that there are really such people out there.
