This is a good book to read and relax. I like the side crime story along with the love story. Peter and Emilys love story was real. I did not read as a forced love story. This is a quick pace read that kept me intrigued all the way the ending. I hope the story picks up next time with Peter and Emily hopefully adopting Benji and Miles and Jenna getting married.

El problema con este libro es que es sumamente plano. La trama en sí la hemos visto mil veces ya y nos presentan a dos enamorados antiguos que ahora pues se reencuentran y todo ese amor sale a flote, pero en verdad "no pueden estar juntos" por la parte social. Creo que este mes he leído como mínimo 4 libros con la misma premisa. En el caso de éste... es que no tiene nada diferencial. Ni la manera en que está escrito, ni los personajes, ni su historia, ni el por qué... Además se me hizo bastante pesado como él está tan obsesionado con la posición y con no poder ser lo que ella necesita/merece, sin siquiera escucharla. Y ella tampoco es que sea un dechado de virtudes interesante. Lo bueno es que no tiene nada que te haga poner los ojos en blanco, ni que de cringe, ni que te saque de la trama. Simplemente entretiene un rato.

Il romanzo in questione è il seguito di "Un bacio nel buio" uscito per la stessa collana a giugno di quest'anno. Io ho letto entrambi ma voi non siete obbligati a fare lo stesso perché le storie sono distinte e separate avendo per protagonisti due coppie diverse. L'unica cosa che vi consiglio, in caso decidiate di prendere entrambi, è di rispettare l'ordine di uscita perché il primo vede proprio Emily e Peter (anche se come personaggi secondari) molto più giovani e già legati da un forte sentimento.
Le vicende di questo romanzo si svolgono otto anni dopo e più precisamente nel 1827 nella campagna inglese. Questa volta i protagonisti sono alle prese con un ladro che ruba nelle case dei vicini e sarà proprio Peter (ora lavora per Bow Street) a dover svolgere le indagini al riguardo senza sapere che in realtà il ladro è più vicino di quanto possa pensare. Non vi svelerò altro anche se l'identità sarà palese sin dalle prime pagine.
A differenza di molti sequel, la scrittrice fa continui riferimenti alle vicende raccontate nel libro precedente.
Il carattere dei protagonisti è ben delineato: Peter nonostante abbia sempre amato Emily cerca di soffocare il suo sentimento convinto che un ladruncolo non possa aspirare alla mano di una sorella di un conte mentre Emily dal canto suo pensa che Peter non l'abbia mai amata e forse questa mancanza di fiducia la porta a trovarsi in una brutta situazione.
La copertina come il livello di sensualità è alto, ha uno stile narrativo scorrevole dunque piacevole da leggere. È sicuramente un libro da gustare comodamente in un paio di giorni.

Loved it! I'm sorry I didn't read this author sooner--she's very good and this was a wonderful story!

Halfway through this book I really wished it was a paperback rather than an e-book so I could start seriously skimming because Emily annoyed me so much.
Warning Possible Spoilers!
This is a girl who for the last eight years has lived with and enjoyed a close relationship with her brother and his wife Diedre. Yet when she gets blackmailed and it concerns her brother, does she do the sensible thing and sit him down and lay it all out for him. No, that would be using common sense and I think in this case such a thing is simply too common. No instead she has to "save" everyone from the possibility that the blackmailer has a genuine claim (because he's so trustworthy???).
For me Emily was borderline TSTL. She acts immaturely on just about every occasion. She knows that she acts rashly, but does this mean that she tries not to - no. She knows that her brother or Peter can help but it's simply too much for her to risk (???) to confess the whole situation.
There was a twist (that had some heavy hints) as to a mastermind behind the blackmail and this was an interesting detail, but for me the climax and resolution lacked.
Personally I thought Peter could do better.

Se me hizo un poco cansado eso de que los protagonistas se la pasen negando sus sentimientos, ok el es un hijo de una prostituta que se ganaba la vida como carterista pero ya no, ahora es un agente de Bow Street y muy bueno.
Asi que no siente que sea digno de la hermana de un Conde aun que ella nunca ha dicho que le importe. Punto a favor la protagonista es fuerte e independiente.
Por lo demas una mas del monton, predecible.

I loved this book! I thought it was the perfect sequel to A Kiss in the Dark, which featured the MCs as children and secondary characters. Peter was still the compelling hero and Emily still the willfull heroine that had a tendancy to get into trouble. A true damsel in distress novel that had great chemistry and a good story line. Great read :)
