Never Have I Ever Gone Skinny Dipping

Rate this book
Mickey Boring has always felt like his life is…well, boring. He’s a little shy, a little nerdy, a librarian who loves books—not real cool, in his opinion. The only exciting thing about him is the fact that he’s a secret writer of spicy stories who lives out his fantasies in the stories he pens. Oh and he loves writing those things in public—at a coffeehouse to be exact, owned by his crush, Ronan Winters.

When Mickey gets the prompt Never Have I Ever, on a message board, he knows exactly how he wants to end that sentence…Never Have I Ever Gone Skinny-Dipping…to live out a missed opportunity from eight years ago. And he’s determined that Ronan Winters is the man he’s going to get to go with him.

Mickey just has to figure out how to ask him first. No big deal, right?

Never Have I Ever Gone Skinny-Dipping was originally published in Heart2Heart Charity Anthology Volume 5. It contains no new scenes but is expanded to include 1,000 additional words. This book is a completed short story at 16,000 words.

This is a sweet and sexy short story (60 pages).
Loved Ronan and Mickey.
Mickey is a shy librarian and Ronan is a sexy and easy going bar owner, that also has a podcast about sex and how all should embrace sexuality in a natural form.

Since this one doesn't have description, it's kinda like this:

This was ok for a short story. It's pretty straightforward, uncomplicated and predictable right from the start.

The premise sounds cute - a shy librarian, a coffeeshop owner, and a little something that should be a twist but it's not really. I would have enjoyed it more if there was more depth to the characters and their relationship, and less focus on everything sex related. Just my personal preference. As it is, it didn't give me any feels.

I enjoyed the narration by Nick J. Russo.

A cute short story about an outwardly shy and nerdy librarian and author of gay erotica, who has a crush on the owner of the café where he writes his books.

A missed opportunity to go skinny dipping with his online crush years ago leads Mickey to post a "Never Have I Ever Gone Skinny Dipping" on the H2H message board. And with encouragement from other users, he works up the courage to finally ask Ronan out.

The online aspect was a fun, if obvious, addition to their romance. There was too much going on for it to succeed at what it set out to do in such a short story. A higher page count could have bumped up my enjoyment and rating.

This was a short novella about a shy librarian who's crushing on a café owner.

Mickey, the librarian, is also a gay erotica author and practically almost a virgin. He's had his heart broken years ago when he had an online friend for two years , but he didn't have the courage to meet up with him for the infamous skinny dipping.

Ronan is the café owner where Mickey goes to write his books. He's a flirt and has hook ups all the time, but never anything serious.

They both like each other and Mickey finally asks Ronan out. The relationship is slow paced, they take time to get to know each other and occasionally get intimate. They become boyfriends.

It's not until they realise they're the ones who've wanted to go skinny dipping all those years ago that they finally have sex and the epilogue takes us to two years later, where they already live together and are engaged.

It's a short story overflowing with sugar , for Mickey being a gay erotica author I expected this to get a bit kinky or specific, but it's ok, I'll take fluff on any given Saturday.😉

Short, sweet and cute. Mickey and Ronan were cute together, and I knew that little twist at the end, but overall it was a quick and good read!

This was freaking adorable! I don’t normally give such high ratings for such a short story but Riley packed a punch in this little gem!

Mickey has one major regret, he left his online bestie/maybe future bf hanging when they decided to finally meet in person and go skinny dipping.

Almost a decade later that regret hasn’t lessened and after an online survey type deal he admits he’s never gone skinny dipping and that he still wants to. This time with a particular hunky coffee shop owner.

Y’all this had me swooning left and right! Mickey and Ronan are total opposites on the surface, the first is a small and geeky librarian who’s so introverted it hurts. The second isn’t only salivating on the outside but he’s super nice, flirty and he’s totally open about everything including sex.

But on the inside they have so much in common and when Mickey gets past his destructive self-loathing he learns that when they start dating.

Even though this story was enough I’m a selfish girl and I want more. Gimme all the hunky nerd love!

Short quick listen. Nick J Russo is wonderful as always.

Just didn't connect with these characters much and there seemed to be too much going on (these two were connected like 3 different ways and it's a lot for such a short story).

A MM romance novella with opposites attract, a secret past connection (which is obvious to us), sexy fantasies, & fun that happens due to a "Never Have I ever"!
I got the audiobook free in a promo. I listened to it twice before writing this review as I enjoyed it! It's short but cute & even tugged at my heartstrings. Loved Mickey & Ronan.

I like Russo as a narrator. The voices are exactly what I thought the MCs would sound like, tho it's a bit cliche lol. M's high pitched while R's a bit deeper with a twang (?). Easy to distinguish!

Mickey is a librarian but also a gay erotica writer. M's got fantasies he wants to fulfill but he's shy & awkward in real life. He's bashful & cute! After losing out on skinny dipping with his 1st anon crush, a forum post nudges him to try it with his current crush.
Ronan is the coffee house owner where M frequents & R also does a sex postive podcast. R's a flirt to all, but he especially likes M & feels he's someone special 🤭. R's charming, thoughtful, confident.

I love how they are fans of eachother already 😂. It's fun seeing them interact all cute. When they finally date, it all clicks well. M dear, R flirts with u so much, how can u think he only likes u platonically?! (I get him tho.) 😏 There's time jumps for relationship development, but it's done well & I understand as it's short story. Of course, with all the hints, their (past) connection is obvious & I was excited when it does get revealed.

It's not angsty, but it's still got themes of past parental & religious hurt. R+M are hot together! Love their dynamic, teasing & care 🥰. The epilogue's so sweet ❤️. I love to see M bloom into being more comfy in his own. This book was originally in an anthology which I haven't read but I'm glad it got released seperately so I could now!

This was a fun little short that managed to feel longer than it actually was (in a good way). The MCs had good chemistry and though things moved quickly (and some plot lines were a little too convenient), it was entertaining and easy to read.

This is a short story featuring a coffee shop owner and an erotica writer who wants to make his written kinks come true; Mickey and Ronan fall in love.

But they actually knew each other from high school, they were internet friends who would meet at a certain point for skinny dipping, but shy and awkward Mickey never make it to the date, which he deeply regrets until this day. Mickey is a famous gay erotica author and always spends his time in Ronan’s coffee shop.

On the other hand, Ronan is a confident man who has his own podcast in which he’s sex positive and talks about diverse sexuality-wise themes. They’re both fans of each other and kinda want to date but no one makes a move. At least until Mickey surprisingly invites Ronan, and from then on, they get along pretty fine.

Despite being this a short story, I fully enjoyed it. I’ve always loved Riley’s characters and how their romances feel organic. Also, I though Mickey could be one of my dearest friends. I totally recommend to check this one out!

Audio Review
Micky Boring is a twinkish twenty six year old. He is not what you would call experienced with men. Micky has a secret persona as an author called Adrian Raines and writes steamy novels.

Ronan Winters owns Extra Shot a coffee shop that Micky frequents to write his books, when he is not working at the library. Ronan has his own podcast where he discusses and praises Adrian’s books.

Micky likes to chat to men online and has done for some time, but remaining anonymous. He is asked a question Never Have I Ever, and he answers as Skinny dipping, as he had the chance years ago but chickened out.

Ronan has the hots for ‘freckles’ (Micky), and Micky for Ronan, but they have to tell each other. Micky plucks up the courage to ask him out, and progression happens naturally.

This sweet short story by Riley Hart is read perfectly by the sublime voice of Nick J Russo. He brings the characters of Ronan and Micky to life effortlessly.

Never Have I Ever Gone Skinny Dipping is a standalone novella by Riley Hart. Here's what you can expect from Mickey and Ronan:

- MM romance novella
- First person dual point of view
- Guaranteed happily ever after
- Secret identities
- Unknowing second chance
- Librarian and coffeehouse owner
- Secret author
- Queer podcast host
- Low angst

This was just a cute, quick read with the right amount of spice for the length of the novella! I'm pretty sure this was my first time reading Riley Hart, and it was a pleasure. Ronan and Mickey were so sweet, and I loved the different layers to them meeting (again, we learn!) and falling for one another. If you're looking for something easy to decompress or help bridge your TBR, this would be a great choice!

Short, sweet and so much fun! 🥰

Mickey was the relatable (to me) nerd, and Ronan was the confident flirt who’s also just a really good guy. I enjoyed the backstory, their current lives, and their side hustles a lot. There was no angst, just some regret from something that happened years ago, which we find out about prior to the characters revealing their past to each other. This story was really swoony and cute, and had so many funny moments too!

It’s a good, fast paced story. There could have been a bit more of depth to the story and the characters development if the book would have been a bit longer but for such a short story it was really good!
I also liked the writing style!

THIS IS FUN

I Loved This Book!! Mickey the geeky librarian and secret erotic romance writer. Ronan the outgoing handsome coffee shop owner. I never knew how thrilling it would be to read a book written so close to where you live. Having scenes in the Flats of Cleveland was a just exciting for me. Thank You RILEY HART for the quick and fun story about two men who were just happy to be together. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!

Short and so sweet! This novella was only 60 pages but one of the cutest reads! I liked that this was a short novella with an actual plot. I find it hard for come across novellas that aren’t just purely spicy—I need some plot with my smut🤣 I definitely would have read a full length novel of this story.

I need to read more by this author!
