In book two of the series, Eliana believes she may have finally gained control over her newfound powers, but that's put to the test as new dangers find her and the ones she loves. It seems more people than she thought know her secret and not everyone is happy the power of the Essence chose her. Now she has to determine who she can trust and who she can't. With enemies both in the United States and in Egypt hunting her, she fears that she, too, may lose her humanity as the One who came before her had. As the power of the Essence inside of her grows, she needs to learn how strong she really is. Is she stronger than the first Chosen One had been or will her fate be the same? How long can she hang on to her humanity?
I enjoyed watching Eliana and Josh come closer together. And Eliana getting more control over her powers and the reasons behind them However, 4 teenagers heading off the Egypt alone without permission was just a little far-fetched.
I really like this series, kinda bummed there isn't another yet! This is a YA series, but it still grabbed my interest and I really liked the characters. Yeah, like a typical teen, Eliana can be a bit whiny, but she remembers what is important and ultimately does what is right. This book shows a LOT of growth on her part and we get to see just how fantastic her friends and boyfriend are.
This goes pretty quick and is a fantastic "get away" read. There is quite a bit of potential in this series and I hope to see more of it. Eliana does make a cameo in Bonnie's other series so we kinda get a quick fix.
I loved Josh and Eliana together, it was perfect. This book was absolutely amazing and way better than the first one. Each book in the series has shown to come out once a year. The first installment in 2010 and this one in 2011. I can only hope that 2012 has another one. I love this series. It is unique and amazing.
