This novel has a flair for the "why done it" with lots of twists and turns, southern exposure, police procedures where the good guys are not always good, and an ending that forces you to sit up a little bit straighter. The characters come to life with suspense, drama, and explosive action.
Seasoned Detectives Oliver Rousseau and Jack Deveraux of the New Orleans PD are stumped when a sophisticated killer who targets his victims on rainy nights during hurricane season evades suspicion as the police quickly run out of leads on the murder of a prominent doctor's wife.
When Jennifer Dolan, an employee at the Criminal Courthouse fails to show up for work police are dispatched to her residence, just houses from the murdered doctor's wife to discover she has been killed with the same M.O. - a single gunshot to the head on a rainy night.
With the clock ticking on the second murder, Oliver resorts to unorthodox methods and enlists the aid of his beautiful wife Marin, and her twin sister Megan - who hold the clues and a carefully guarded secret of the affluent Carrington women - their psychic ability that allows them to see the calculated murder of Jennifer Dolan and identify the killer.
Oliver knows only hard evidence will lead to an arrest so it's up to him to convince Jack, and a small task force to focus the investigation on an unlikely killer without telling them where he gets his information, in order to protect his wife's secret. But, when the suspect terrorizes Oliver's family and one of them is shot, the case explodes as Oliver and Jack go on the hunt for a sniper TRAINED TO KILL.
I love Goodreads and I am humbled by all the great reviews on the Detective Oliver Rousseau novels at Amazon. Thank you all!
The Protector - A Detective Oliver Rousseau Novel #3 is now available.
For those of you who have contacted me on Facebook at MysteryCrimeNovelist-Cynthia Townley and asked about the idea to use psychics in my Detective Oliver Rousseau series...this is for you. The idea to use psychics came from a personal experience I had when I visited a psychic in Las Vegas. I did it on a whim, not believing or disbelieving, but just thought it would be fun to hear what she had to say. I did not schedule an appointment ahead of time, nor did I show her any identification. This woman was well known in assisting police with missing persons. When I introduced myself one of the first things she said to me was my birthday was either on the 6th or 16th of September. I laughed nervously and said, "It's on the 6th." Lucky guess? At this point she had my attention. Then she said I would meet someone important to me whose birthday was September 16th. That left an impression on me. As bizarre as this sounds that was over twenty-five years ago. Fast-forward to 2010 and my youngest son married a beautiful girl whose birthday is September 16th. She and I are close and she is very important to me. Coincidence?
I don't write with a lot of fluff and as a result my Detective Oliver Rousseau novels are a fast-paced read. I like cliff-hangers at the end of my chapters and use them whenever I can. In addition, I like to add "explosive action" whenever possible because I think it adds an element of danger and suspense.
Because of the wonderful support from readers like you I am working on the next Oliver Rousseau novel. Thank you for adding my books to your reading list and I would be most grateful for your reviews.
I have read the first two Detective Oliver Rousseau books ( Trained to Kill and Unsuspecting) on Kindle and I am hooked. Thoroughly enjoyed them. Brilliant books. I couldn't put them down until I had finished so consequently didn't get much sleep for a few nights. Looking forward to your next one.
LOVED THIS BOOK! I'm not usually a mystery book reader but I couldn't put this one down. I loved the twists and turns. Every time I thought I had it figured out I was so wrong. Kept my interest all the way through.
This detective drama is set in New Orleans with lovable main characters. Mystery + strong intuition (psychic) + relationships = great read! The author had me second guessing myself on the killer.
This novel kept me totally captured and can be called a real page turner. Having said that, some elements were somewhat far-fetched (one set of psychic twins and another set of twins of which one twin is a DA and a serial killer, just as an example). Proofreading/editing fell short in a few spots. Yet, I can highly recommend this thriller as great vacation lit.
