Bibi is the princess of Wonderfarm and is used to having things go her way - if they don't, she'll get her will by force of magic. In order for her to learn a lesson and better her ways, her parents send her to live in the human world as a high schooler. Bibi has no intention of changing her ways, though, and promptly uses her magic to have her classmates love and serve her. It just so happens that one of her classmates Musashi appears to be immune to her magic.

Bibitte Mucho is shockingly mediocre. I have never considered the author Fukushima to be one of the best shoujo artists out there, but her works are usually well enough and quite age-appropriate. This short story of hers, however, is both awkward and unengaging.

Although short stories don't always have a great pacing, this one was just all over the place and the scenes jumped in ways that made the story hard to follow. Matters only got worse as the characters made irrational decisions and nothing was explained properly. Musashi is clearly aware of Bibi's magic but shows no surprise - to the best of what I can tell, the setting is supposed to be a fantasy-free high school environment in which Bibi's magic should have caused alarm.

Bibi is plain and simple selfish and doesn't appeal much as a main character. While the whole point of the plot was for her to be a selfish princess who betters herself, the fact remains that she doesn't. I am perfectly ok with a selfish main character who develops and betters themselves, but Bibi's sole motivation to appear - not even actually become - nicer is so that Musashi would fall in love with her. I don't know why Bibi fell in love with Musashi in the first place as I can't feel any chemistry between them, however, I can see why he initially doesn't like her - as a romance this was a total failure.

Fukushima's art is nothing to write home about. While I wouldn't go as far as to call it bad, it is a bit a product of its time and her newer works certainly look better. But there is something quite messy about Bibitte Mucho that is more than just the plot being all over the place.

I usually appreciate Fukushima's works for the characters' ages. Her works are usually for the lower range of teenagers and, unlike many of its kind, the characters actually behave appropriately - often bratty and immature but certainly not in an unlikable way. This doesn't seem to apply to Bibette Mucho, though; while the characters certainly are bratty, there's talk of marriage and more than one scene that promotes sexual content.

This is by no means the worst manga you could read - you could get a lot worse. But I wouldn't exactly recommend it, it doesn't even have the quick pass time value as it felt like more of a time-waster than anything. I am probably being generous with my rating, but that's largely based on the fact that I know just how bad a manga can go.

Zum Inhalt:
Bibis zauberhaftem Charme ist Musashi bisher nicht erlegen, doch die Prinzessin von Wonderfarm gibt nicht so schnell auf und setzt nun ganz auf ihre Qualitäten als Hausfrau. Leider lassen auch diese zu wünschen übrig und so nimmt das Unheil seinen Lauf: Als Bibi in ihrem Feuereifer Musashis Wohnung in Brand setzt, muss sie entsetzt beobachten, wie er im Feuerinferno feststeckt!

Cover:
Das zweite Cover finde ich persönlich ansprechender als das erste. Zu sehen ist hier Bibi, wie sie auf einem Motoroller sitzt. Das Ganze wirkt wieder frisch und fröhlich, was ich sehr mag. Trotzdem ist es aber auch wieder wenig aussagend in Richtung Inhalt der Geschichte, was ein bisschen schade ist.

Eigener Eindruck:
Bibi hat es fast geschafft, dass Musashi sie als Freund mag, da stellt sie fest, dass sie wieder einmal alles verbockt hat. Um sich bei ihm gut zu stellen, versucht sie im Haushalt anzupacken, was aber mächtig nach hinten los geht. Und während sie versucht die Wogen zu glätten, muss Bibi feststellen, dass sie Musashi nicht nur als Freund will, sondern am liebsten eine Beziehung mit ihm hätte. Und wäre das alles noch nicht kompliziert genug, tauchen plötzlich ihre Eltern auf.

Der zweite Teil der Dilogie ist in meinen Augen nicht besser als Band 1. Ganz im Gegenteil. Er ist kürzer - dafür gibt es aber eine Bonusgeschichte, die einen aber auch nicht unbedingt vom Hocker reißt - und auch hier überschlagen sich die Ereignisse ohne Ende. Wieder springen die Szenen von Paneel zu Paneel, sodass man kaum begreifen kann, was überhaupt passiert. Auch die Charaktere ändern sich einfach nicht. Bibi ist in meinen Augen genauso egoistisch wie eh und je. Emotionen werden auch hier wieder nicht transportiert. Man kann den Protagonisten einfach nicht abkaufen, dass sie etwas füreinander empfinden. Und dann eben dieses übertrieben verkitschte in jeder nur möglichen Situation. Es nervt einfach nur. Auch hier sind die Zeichnungen wieder recht lieblos, sodass man beim Lesen keine Freude hat. Der Manga ist in meinen Augen echt eine Katastrophe.

Fazit:
Lest es lieber nicht, wenn ihr etwas mit Stil sucht.
