They're back by popular demand! In Tastes Like Chicken, Lolita Files continues the story of Misty Fine and Reesy Snowden, the dynamic heroines of her bestselling novels Scenes from a Sistah and Getting to the Good Part. What's a girl to do when she finds out her man's been feeding her lies? When readers last saw the girlfriends, Misty had just married her dream man, Rick Hodges, and was off on a fabulous honeymoon. A pregnant and newly engaged Reesy was riding off into the sunset with her fiancé -- reformed ladies' man Dandre Hilliard. But it isn't long before everyone starts misbehaving, and in Tastes Like Chicken, they get what's coming to them. With steamy thrills and disastrous infidelities, Tastes Like Chicken is a tale of two women who find themselves poised at life's crossroads with everything to lose but their friendship. Filled with the humor and personal drama that made her first books national bestsellers, Lolita Files's latest takes the sistahs -- and readers -- on their wildest ride yet.
Lolita Files is an American author, screenwriter, and producer whose work spans fiction, nonfiction, and television. She is the author of six bestselling novels, including the popular book club titles Scenes from a Sistah and Child of God. Her novel sex.lies.murder.fame was optioned for film, with Files adapting the screenplay. She also coauthored Once Upon a Time in Compton with former Compton Gang Unit detectives Timothy M. Brennan and Robert Ladd, a nonfiction account of their years navigating gang wars, the rise of Gangsta rap, and the investigations into the murders of Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G. Files earned a degree in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Florida and is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. Before turning to writing full time, she worked in corporate communications, marketing, and property management, experiences that influenced her early novels. Her path to publication began when she submitted short fiction and pages from Child of God to a major literary agency, resulting in immediate representation and her first book deal. Based in Los Angeles, Files continues to write novels and nonfiction while developing and producing film, television, and new media projects.
Picking up where Getting To The Good Part left off, the adventures of Reesy and Misty continue in Tastes Like Chicken. The story opens at Reesy and Dandre's long awaited wedding but before the "I Do's" can be exchanged an incident from the past rears its very UGLY head and the excitement begins. Files opens a floodgate of drama and it never stops throughout the book. It seems like Reesy's marital woes and personal trauma permeate everyone around her and no one close to her is left unscathed. In this episode, although the spotlight is primarily on Reesy, it is almost equally shared with some familiar and new supporting characters. Surprisingly, the dynamic duo, Tyrone and Tyrene (Reesy's high-profile attorney parents), experience a crisis so devastating that their very foundation is threatened, while Reesy's sassy grandmother opens the closet exposing some familial skeletons that are eyebrow-raising (to say the least). Fans will learn more about Misty's husband, Rick, who has unmentionable issues that threaten their marriage; Dandre's physician father and his fantasies; and a new character, Sleazy, a stand-up comedian, who, despite his stage name, actually comes through in a big way.
As with the other Reesy/Misty books, Files upholds her tradition of keeping the novels fresh and funny by interjecting the latest and most hip language, musical references, and urban expressions in her dialogue and settings. Yet, her appeal continues to be universal as this episode is well written and perfectly paced making it a real page-turner. It is a perfect release for the summer season and will no doubt be a BIG hit for fans of the series. I cannot wait until the next release!
Oh...My...Goodness! The sequel to Getting to the Good Part is phenomenal! I can't remember the number of times I yelled and scolded the characters while reading this book. Lolita Files, you have done an awesome job (once again) of keeping the audience entertained!
This book supplies the update that I was searching for. It's blatantly obvious that Reesy wants to experience the joys of marriage, and ultimately has the opportunity to do so. However, the ghost of Dandre's past is just not willing to let go and wrecks Reesy and Dandre's wedding. This causes Dandre to not only lose (temporarily) the love of his life, but also his unborn child.
THE CHAOS CONTINUES when Rick's desire to have a baby turns him into a lunatic. However, the icing on the cake turns out to be an affair between Reesy's mother, Tyrene, and Dandre's father, Hill. But, you'll have to read to find out what happened.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! But, again, I want to know more! SEQUEL! SEQUEL! At any rate, ENJOY!
Absolutely hilarious with just the right amount of steam. Lolita Files won me over years ago with the original of this series, "Scenes from a Sistah". This book finds Reesy and Misty finally into their "real" adult lives as they embark on motherhood and wife-hood. However, things take some drastic turns right out the gate and start a chain of events that was too scandalous to put down.
I love the characters and voice in this story. Files does an awesome job bouncing the emotion so fluidly that those you hate become those you cheer for and vice-versa, without your even knowing when it happens. A love story, winding its way through a good dose of drama.
I never read any of this authors books until Tastes Like Chicken, which was extremely well written. This book grabbed my interest from the very begining. I would have to say that this is one of my favorite love stories. It was so real, I found myself crying on the train...(lol). This is a must read.
I loved it! This is my favorite series. I love the relationship between the two main characters. Nothing can break their bond and that means a lot. I love books where I can get lost in the characters and in this one (like the 1st 2) I can definitely get lost. It is a good read.
I love this book I really enjoyed the plot because it was steamy yet it wasn't just sex, sex, sex. it had a great story line with many different points of view, form the character.I also found the characters to be realistic.
I liked the story overall although a bit raunchy at times. Basically covers all the drama and insecurities relationships face these days. It was like reading one of these reality shows in book form
Now I skipped the first book so I was a bit lost on the characters. Book was soooo much drama. It didn't tie up every loose end, but I did know Reesy would get back with her beau. I would like to know what came of the parents, and Misty. I can't give it a five cause I felt like the book dropped me off and I have so many questions. It was a good read. Very entertaining.
