After extensive research, data gathering and having over 30 years of experience studying criminal behavior. It’s safe to say that delinquent or at risk behavior is directly linked to a breakdown in the family unit, coupled with adverse environmental factors and the need to connect with criminal associates can lead to a life of crime. Due to their antisocial behavior, many teenagers find themselves gravitating to unconventional ways of behaving and without knowing it, they become fascinated with a life filled with crime.
Started off strong, but slowly became a memoir, revisiting previous experience working with youth and ending with an outcry on how the justice system is unfair to a person of color, particularly, black/African American people. Thought this book was going to be so much more, but ended up being the author's story about his time working in corrections and the unjustly things he heard and witnessed. Quick read, even for the slowest of readers like myself. I had hope to learn something new and that could be adapted into my career field, however, anyone that has spent time working with youth or grew up in similar circumstances will be able to relate to the material.
