This volume continues to be cute and entertaining, but not quite reaching the heights of awsomeness of some other mangas I've read, in storyline or art. Good, but not great.

This second volume deepens the Chocola & Vanilla universe with the introduction of many new characters and the appearance of growing danger.

We discover that Pierre is not a simple schoolboy, nor a sorcerer like Chocola and Vanilla, but an ogre who feeds on black hearts filled with hatred and jealousy. A real danger for Chocola, especially as she begins to fall in love with him.

I really enjoyed the part that takes place in the magical world, where Chocola goes to better understand the threat posed by Pierre. It's an opportunity to discover his entourage, as well as some of the magical activities typical of this universe.

That said, the story moves along fairly quickly, sometimes a little too quickly. And I have to admit that the relationship between Pierre and Chocola is a little disturbing, given their age difference. Some of the remarks made by Rock'n'Lovin, his mentor, also made me a little uncomfortable.

Despite this, it's still an excellent manga, as beautiful, inventive and engaging as ever.

Sinon j’aime trop Akira 🥰

Second volume out of the eight: 3 stars.
Bad use of French and typical grammar errors makes me cringe. I'm sorry but reading "La Etoile Brillant*" when you're French is a reason to roll your eyes. I get French grammar is complicated and I appreciate the efforts of the mangaka but I wish there were some editing and actual research before publishing.
A little slower than the first volume. There is a real plotline that is being constructed which explains the slow pacing. This whole war between witches and ogres is pretty interesting and seeing the famous Magical World is nice BUT WHY adults treat children like dumb chickens. And, BOI I FEEL SO BETRAYED BY A CERTAIN CHARACTER--I can't say I didn't see it coming, but still.

* It's only one of many examples.

Pierre & chocolat - are dating. what I didn't expect Pierre is the villain n took dark heart from other normal girls. He's gonna steal chocolat hearts but just the right time chocolat frog - stop Pierre on time. Chocolat headed to their magical world to meet vanilla mother ( the queen) for more info about ogre n why they're hate the witches. In the end, Pierre meet vanilla - don't tell me vanilla is secretly is a ogre or join the dark side.

Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥ / 5

Things get more serious in this volume and plot-wise we're given more background on the magical world, the conflicts between witches/wizards and "ogres", we get to see more of how Chocolat interacts with Pierre and what his true nature is, and...maybe even a little rivalry between Chocolat and Vanilla?

In this volume, the most exciting thing could also be Chocolat's visit back in the magical world, as it gives the reader more exposure to a wider conflict that goes beyond a competition for becoming queen. The "philosophies", if you will, behind heart-taking and heart-giving are explored, the stakes are upped as Chocolat realizes that conflicts are escalating while she and Vanilla are competing.

The best way I can sum up this volume is that it shows how what started out as a seemingly cutesy shoujo manga can also become more serious, so never judge a book by its cover.

Kind of like "Winx Club"--if anyone remembers that show--it slowly and gradually builds up to a great finale! (Well, I'm talking about the original show, anyway--none of this new computer-animated stuff.)

Also, great cliffhanger at the end! Really looking forward to diving into Volume 3.

It's sad to say, but I'm really disappointed in Volume 2 of Sugar Sugar Rune. Volume 1 built on the series to be wonderful and thoughtful in first love and childhood crushes but Volume 2 only destroys that progress and goes back to the cliched mahou shoujo ideas. Chocolat's crush on Pierre is another show of the main character loving the bad boy (even though he's really self centered and evil). The volume deals more with rivals and misunderstandings, and trickery than the endearing themes of Volume 1. Volume 2 is too rough, and too plain to launch this series further. It really drags down Sugar Sugar Rune. I hope Moyoco Anno can improve in her next volume, otherwise this series will only become another cutesy magic girl series.

I really find myself enjoying this collection of stories about two princesses competing to be Queen of the Magical World. Being who I am, I feel more for Vanilla, as she is the shy, quiet girl, while Chocolat is the loud and obnoxious girl.

What we learn in this book is how that neither of these girls can give their heart away while in the human world. If they do, they will die. Pierre knows this and is trying to get Chocolat's heart. Well, that isn't very nice, is it?

The artwork is well-drawn, although I think that the eyes are just a tad too big and make the two main girls look a little funny, and the story-telling is fun.

Young girls will love this story. I look forward to finding out what happens next in Sugar Sugar Rune: Volume 3.

I rated this book an 8 out of 10.

i must say, the series is starting to grow on me. i find it difficult to root for vanilla, and chocolat isn't exactly my favorite either. but that's fine. i'm not much into this whole vague business. maybe it's because i'm dense and i like things spelled out. i really dislike figuring out all of the angles b/c there are typically too many to really care about. it's amazing about how many problems can be solved with just talking it out. speak up! this is a life lesson i should really take to heart. anywho- with the way vanilla remains on the back burner, but keeps boiling over her pot urks me. i can't really figure her out. but what can i say, i think that's what we call plot.

Chocolat finds out that "prince" Pierre really is from the magic world and is part of a rogue group that collects black hearts from jealously and hatred. She manages to get away from him for now. Also with Vanilla's help she collects more hearts and is able to add extras to her wand. In one episode she went back to the magic world and got to see a little bit of the politics going on behind the scenes. Chocolat's story is interesting, but I would like to see some of Vanilla's.

I officially like this series ^_^
