Solid men’s adventure novel set in Key West and the Everglades. Formulaic yes, but a lot better than most of the men’s adventure series I’ve read.

First of all, I want to point out that. I really like this type of content. Boating, yachting, sailing, fishing and anything that falls under the concept of a marina.

I leave this information below for those who want to read it. A look at Boat and Yacht History:

the ships we encounter today are; They are large, robust and self-propelled watercraft used to transport cargo across the seas and oceans. This was not the case hundreds of years ago, and current ships went through centuries of development until they became what they are today.

In ancient times, sailors used rafts, bamboo logs, reed bales, inflated animal hides, and baskets covered with pitch to cross small bodies of water.

As a matter of fact, the first boat; it was in the form of a simple frame made of interconnected rods and sewn animal hides that skillfully covered them. These boats could easily carry large and heavy loads. Information about similar old boat examples; You can find it among bull boats, Eskimo canoes, and British Islander merchant ships on the North American plains. In addition to these, another old-style boat is the one carved from the log and the ends of which are sharpened. Some of these were 60 feet (approx. 18 m) long.

When we look at the history of seafaring in ancient times, we come across a very interesting study of human strength and survival instincts. For example, in ancient times, the simple shovel mechanism we know was not used. Instead, people used their hands to move through the water in tiny boats. They propelled their rafts forward, pushing the masts to the bottom of the rivers. Increasingly, using his creative instincts and ingenuity, man redesigned the posts by straightening them and widening one end, thus making it usable in deeper waters. Later, this form was masterfully redeveloped and the blade fixed to the sides of the boat was transformed into the shape of a wide oar.

Invention of the sail
The invention of the sail was the greatest turning point in maritime history. Sails replaced human muscle movements, and sailboats were able to travel longer with heavier loads. The first ships used square sails, which were best suited to sail downwind. Side sails were invented later.

The Egyptians credit the emergence of advanced sailing cargo ships. These were made by connecting and stitching together small pieces of wood. These cargo ships were used to transport large stone pillars used in the construction of monuments.

Everglades Assault is well-done, lightweight fluff. It’s the second book that I’ve read in the Dusky McMorgan series, but it wasn’t quite as good as the first one (Cuban Death-Lift). The positives are that author Randy Striker (aka Randy Wayne White) a) keeps things moving with plenty of action and romance and b) does a nice job of describing South Florida. The negatives are that the novel is formulaic - the characters don’t behave like real people and their dialogue sinks into cliche. The formulaic aspects of Everglades Assault make it predictable.

While I’m glad that I read the book, I wouldn’t advise anyone to seek out a copy. Everglades Assault is a nice beach book - it’s unchallenging, but offers a fun escape.

Another of the seven MacMorgan action novels Randy White wrote before taking off with his Doc Ford series. This is very tight and reeking of formula. Nothing surprising or much of anything to make this stand out. Very disappointing is the ending which is an oft repeated ending in Florida novels. '

White's characters are good. The settings are the best of the book and the only parts really worth reading.

Bottom line: i don't recommend this book. 5 out of ten points.

It's a quick and interesting read. The plot starts out in a totally different mode but later transforms into a suspense. I wouldn't call the mystery as mind boggling and doesn't have a shocking end.
The narrative is first person and the protagonist leaves a powerful impression of a macho yet compassionate man. One can easily make a movie out of it as it has a bit of everything; romance, suspense, subtle comedy, drama, action & emotions.

#6 in the Dusky MacMorgan series. 7 paperback action series dashed off by Randy Wayne White, writing as Randy Striker, in 1981-1982. Not bad as action genre thrillers.

Dusky MacMorgan is recruited by an old friend to go to the family home deep in the Everglades. Someone has been grave robbing and trying to scare the locals by appearing as the legendary Swamp Ape. MacMorgan knows that the Ape must be a man in a costume, but there's something sinister going on, and he intends to use his lethal skills to stop it.

Actually written by Randy Wayne White. One of his first books, but not in the Doc Ford series that came later. Great Florida fun. This was a later edition (original written in 1986??) with a forward written by Randy explaining how he got started writing books. For fans of Randy, the forward is very interesting.

The way this started out, I thought it was going to be way too weird and that I wouldn't like it. It turned out to be a pretty good read. I especially like his description of the real Florida, as opposed to the commercial Florida most people know. You can see his progression as an author as this series continues.

Out of the Dusky MacMorgan series, I liked this one the least, even if the legendary Joseph Egret was referenced. It was the plot I found unpleasant, not the writing. I will revisit this one in the future.
